Interesting video. I have a 2018 yzf250 its the most repsonsive 250f for 3rd gear in tight turns i have ever ridden. I bought a 23 and just like the 24 in this video it has a flat spot off the bottom. Requires the clutch to stop it from bogging like that. Ive tried the hard hitting map and all the other maps. Also a 51 sprocket. The bike is stock it has a powerflow kit and a larger airbox cover with stock gearing, this made a bit of difference. Is there any maps for snappy response? 2nd gear is so short so id love to get the bike on par with the 2018 engine feel. Any ideas?

Feels like bikes haven't really advanced that much in the last 20 years. Like 99% of riders (myself included) will lap just as fast on a 2004 as a 2024 if the suspension is set up and the engine has been looked after. I'm not saying it's a bad thing at all, ride what you've got and save your cash.

I have 2017, 2023 & 2024. 17 by far the most bottom but also least top. 24 most mid and top but least bottom. Twinair throttle body kit and playing around with maps got the bottom back on par with the 23. Didn’t lose mid-top. Then powerflow kit crispened it all up and it hauls. Even with a 49 rear. Also 24 makes it very easy to stand up around every corner

@@HPRaceDevelopment in my personal experience with my 3 bikes I found the 17 to feel like a monster off the bottom but fell on its face fairly quickly afterwards. When I got my 23 I noticed straight away that it didn’t feel as strong off the bottom, wasn’t as connected to the wheel and it mattered what gear you were in a bit more. I also noticed that it pulled a lot harder through the mid to top where the 17 struggled. Once I got my 24 I definitely noticed the bottom end not having the torque of my other 2 bikes and really needing to shift down extra for corners and use more clutch. I also thought it had a lot more mid than 23 and a bit more top. Stock out of the box power all around was best on the 23. I left it stock for the race season but found myself looking for more top end on the 17 and more bottom on the 24. Perfect power would’ve been the 17 bottom end on the 24. This is all off feel on the track as the only one I got to put on the dyno was the 17.

@@HPRaceDevelopment I have the 17 and would like less snappiness and hyper responsiveness down low when I'm in corners but maybe a little more mid to upper. Have you found any sprocket set up that might help with this? It's so responsive off the bottom that just a slight twitch on throttle can upset bike for me in rutted corners etc. Fun bike though!

That 23 that he rode guarantee it has a tune from what he was describing. How do I know? I’ve rode them all. Go watch other pros ride the 24 and see how much they brag about this thing. @@mxr248 It’s his personal opinion and experience on the bike, it doesn’t mean he’s wrong. The bike needs to be mapped properly for the exhaust. It was running a map made my Keefer then used the stock map. Both of which aren’t optimized for the added flow the full exhaust provides. Also take into account he’s riding 2 personal bikes that are setup to the liking of those riders. He is not riding 2 completely stock bikes that Yamaha provided. I am surprised as well he didn’t like the new as I thought he would and a lot of has to come down to, mapping and set up from the owner of the bike. From what I’ve read the 2024 yz250f has the air box design of the 450 (obviously) and it has slower air flow. The slower air flow gives it that gargle and slow feeling on throttle roll on and low rpm. Twisted development has a reworked air box for it. I’ve got a 23 yz250f and a 24 300sx. Even front brake will be more different if you have too much sag. The power could be change with the app. Apparently there is a map that you can change to have the bike feels like the old one. The slip on isn’t always a good thing, didnt worked for me when i had an fmf on my old 2010 yz250f. Also maybe the high compression on the old one made de difference.

It's always kind of bothered me that manufacturers use the same frame on a 250, that they use/designed for a 450. I would think a frame could be better optimized for each motor, as they have very different characteristics (weight, power, torque, etc.) HOWEVER, I totally understand why they do this... to save money (one design, tooling on the assembly line, etc.) Mitch Payton, owner of Pro Circuit, said it's the larger air box... again, it's larger because it's the same frame and airbox from the 450, hence not really designed/optimized for the 250. IMHO, it sucks that one would have to buy a new, 3rd party airbox to fix a brand-new bike. I'm guessing that with gearing and mapping, one could get close to fixing the bottom end issue? AJ, thanks for your opinion and the video.

Sounds like something was up with that 24. I have a 23 and 24 and there is such a small difference between them with regards to power and suspension. I think riding bikes handed over to ride without knowing where anything is set is always tough. Both chassis at the end of the day are really great, Yamaha has been on top for a while. The other issue is that the 24 should be running the map for the full exhaust (even though most test have gotten better performance and certainly torque with the stock header). Most guys are switching from 13/50 to 13/51 for a slight improvement in using 3rd gear. Overall good feedback though.

Can't really rate this one compared to one off the showroom floor. He has a map on it for stock exhaust, with an aftermarket exhaust. Not gonna be optimal. Not to mention he probably glazed the pads or rotor on the front and needs to bleed the line/caliper. Bottom end problem is because they made it a more upper end focused power this time, but doing a map change and there's an airbox out for it to give it back that bottom end of the older bike. Just my 2 cents.

Right AJ I'm not sure when you'll be made aware of this and this goes to anyone who doesn't know about the new 2024 YZF 250, compared to the older ones the new one has an upgraded cam chain meaning it's thicker/fatter which makes the weight of it heavier than the old cam chains. The older cam chains have issues of stretching too easily or snapping. The new cam chain on the new version causes it to have a bad bottom end. So it's not badly mapped from the factory, it just needs the engine tuned a little, an exhaust and upgrade the air box so it can get more air in it.

Well… sorry for the book. But you asked. Clickers most likely. How many hours on the new bike? Suspension might need to settle and break in still possibly but maybe not. It did on the 450. The reason it doesn’t want to pull third as well is the beefier cam chain it’s going to be a little heavier and slower to rev. You could try some higher octane oxygenated fuel it might make things a bit more crisp. Blend a little u4.4 into some 91 pump. I know it’s not a high comp bike but it never hurts to rule out fuel. Just don’t run the octane up too high or it will create its own issues. Also. It really is entirely unfair to compare a standard compression bike to a high compression one. Especially on off throttle low speed corners like that. It will never pick up like a high comp bike. Or be as crisp. The new chassis on the 450 is amazing. I have not ridden a 250. But on paper it’s the same minus the gyro and weight of the 450. All I’ve had to do is clickers so far. Low hours 24 would be what I’d be looking for.

Hello me again. For one the 23 I can guarantee you it’s not on the stock tune if you’re taking corners in 3rd and it pulls better than the 24. The 23 in linear is beginner mode so to say. Now when you hit the button for the next tune in stock form it’s hard hitting and it pulls a lot better and is a rocket ship. Same as the 24! Also you said something about the suspension on the 23 rear being harsh. Apparently whoever’s bike that is has it way out of whack. That bike with even an hour is amazing with its suspension set right. Same as the 24. The 24 with the other tune is a rocket ship. So many other say the opposite of you. Your other post you sent me a message saying you were riding this new bike from some guy during his session so you didn’t have time to do anything. That was the bike by itself yet here you are again more time on it still no adjustments nor a tune that makes all the difference. You are basically riding the new bike set at a slow rate easy to ride mode. You should know all this considering Yamaha has this technology for about 10 years that nobody had.

KTM set the bar too high Yamaha are garbage and you have to throw obscene money to get them decent vs any of the three ktm models (gg and husky) even Honda’s are so much better from an ergonomics standpoint. The reliability is questionable as many people end up with complete failures with less than 40 hours on the bike. And for the amount of money you’re throwing at this bike to get it decent you could’ve done it with any other bike that had a better base not to mention these bikes all sound like complete shit.
