I agree with the video. I was looking for a new bike for my father and I to mess with during this corona time and we ended up with the FX. Originally, we were looking for the Honda 250RX but they were gone. We managed to find a Yamaha dealer a little ways away and decided we’d give the FX a shot. So far we really love the bike. I’ve already thrown an FMF 4.1 on it to solve the spark arrestor issue and it’s great. The bike is really well rounded and I can say to anyone who is on the fence that you won’t be disappointed.

Should have done a side by side drag race or at least compare speed in each gear sise by side. Would love to see that

I wish you’d go the whole way and grab the WR250F as well. It seems like the WR with the ECU is exactly the same as the FX except for the suspension valving and the silencer(which is too damn loud on the FX for lots of places). I’m interested in one for strictly trail riding but unsure if it will feel good enough to stray from the 2T. I had a Beta 300rr and am leaning towards the 300tpi’s but am curious about the WR.

I ride a 2019 YZ250FX on tight , technical trails. Mostly low to medium speeds. Bought it new last April. Absolutely love it for this type of riding!

@@jackjohnston1019 is I have a 17....Not a 19 but pretty much the same bike. I ride Rocky mountain single track here in Alberta and do laps around a motocross track as well. There's only a couple of nit picks for me. Weight....you feel it picking the bike up. It's loud.....ktm off roaders stock seem much quieter. Jerky throttle at low speeds....some guys have a big issue with this,I don't tend to notice much. Honestly the bike has amazing power,can lug very well,has amazing suspension, starts better than most 4 strokes I've owned. I bought the 250fx for a smoking deal with 2hrs on it....and it has exceeded my expectations.

@@rodjbosch You answered my concern, weight. Went with the 250f cause its so light compared to the fx.

The x also has a reserve and will turn off when you're low on fuel so you'll know you're on reserve and have to refuel soon

Always have the videos I'm lookin for, I think I'm going fx!

On the topic of spark arrestors... have you guys ever fabbed spark arrestors? Thatd be a good video. Obviously not usfs rated but if it works... a lot of time it just has to pass the ol' stick test anyway. We, the poors, would appreciate it.

Great Video Jay! Waiting for my local shop to have the 21s. Anybody know where all the 11 pound weight difference comes from? F234 Fx 245 pounds. Kick stand, .6 gallon larger tank (with fuel - aprox 3.6 pounds), 18" tire account for the 11 pounds? Thanks again for a great vid

How about the wr 250f and l know they are all different bikes but wr is more for trails l think than the other two are much closer together so l was just wondering which one you pick if this was wr or fx models?

Jay I believe a few companies make a 'spark arrestor.' Fastway makes one for $150 on Rocky mountain. You don't have to buy an FMF slip on for the 250FX...now if you own a KTM/ Husky, then you are screwed and have to spend $500 on a slip on because the Fastway does not fit in the muffler (from experience).

@@gpaull2 there’s a fisch moto one that is universal fit for any of the silencers that have a circle hole coming out the end and it’s only 80

Both have same SSS. The difference is in shim stacks and spring rate.

Almost pulled the trigger on the FX.. Went with the Honda 250RX due to ergonomics for me...

So, which one is faster?

Fisch Makes a spark arrestor that will fit any bike with a round exhaust for $80 and installs easily.

Thank you mate! I'm awaiting delivery of a 2021 YZ 250FX and have been looking high and low for an arrestor to avoid having to buy a $400 slip-on pipe. Appreciate you commenting on this issue.

Is the 2020 seat height any lower? My biggest complaint with my 2018 is the ludicrously high seat height. Lexx and Fastway both make nice end cap spark arrestors.

No -- not much of a 450 guy-- but results are very similar - If your into only Moto go YZ and if your 80% off road and trails etc go with the FX -- they are good bikes- -just a lot of bike :-)

For me the 6 speed is the only way to go for offroad, have had 3 yz250f s . Several crfs and ktms. And the most fun one offroad was the ktm ,just of the 6 speed letting you have way more top end speed

Not sure why Yamaha didn’t put 6 speed transmission in WR 250 & 450!!

Awesome review! Do you think a 5’8” 180lb person could flat foot the FX? If not, could they comfortably get a foot down if needed on sketchy trail sections?

I’m 5 ‘ 9.5” 210lbs and barely teetering on my tippy toes it’s a very tall bike... I’m considering lowering mine ...

ReACH 4 iT! ProDucTioNs don’t lower it. Take it to a shop and have the seat shaved. Lowering it messes with the geometry and handling. My buddy has to lower all his bikes and he doesn’t like the feel of lowering link. Makes it feel like it’s dragging a little.

Does the FX have a lighting coil? - like the WR where one can add a light?

Yes it does! My 18 FX HAS HEADLIGHT, taillight and brake light. Plenty of juice!

i straight up don’t have the money right now to get an fx. so i was thinking of getting an older 250f and slowly adding fx components to it. do you think this is a viable option if you’re short on funds?

If it doest start in 2 seconds then stop and try again-- but I have heard Yamaha has ECU updates -- you might ask your dealer.

For me FX --but if want the headlight and other features of the WR then its a great option

Awesome review got it till we nailed down. There’s one point if you want a 19 inch tire I mean wheel then run a little larger tire. You got all best both worlds FX hook s up and does this job. She’s got all the capabilities that transmission is awesome . The YZFX power allows the bike to feel like limbo and attacks everything it hits. I will never trade my YZ for a KTM. awesome.

Not really- more better MX options in 19" but the 18inch is almost better on the track for most dudes that are not pro speed.

FX is faster first of all-- WR will take more mods to make more aggressive with ECU etc--WR has better lighting output from Stator-

I’m 5”5 will I fit on this bike? And so do I have to tippie toe

I'm 5-5, 55.75yrs old (lol) and love my new used YZ250F. Tippi-toe is going to be the case with any big bike.

Moto=F , off road=FX Been racing off-road for 40 yrs cant understand what the problem is here, How good is a F1 car at Baja?? How good is a trophy truck at a road course???.
