2024 Toyota Tacoma Review // Return Of The Mid-Size King

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma ($46,950 starting in Canada, $34,700 starting in the US) is a brand new iteration of the popular mid-size pickup. New for this model year are several different trims - each customized for their intended purpose down to suspension options and features. Two engine choices will be made available, both hybrid and gasoline with a 2.4L turbo 4-cylinder. The non-hybrid trims make a strong 278 horsepower and 317 lb ft of torque, with a maximum available towing capacity of 6500 lbs. But how is it to drive? And is a mid-size truck all the truck that most people truly need? Thomas and James are excited to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode. And then subscribe, silly.

I'm glad this was discussed as I've been completely baffled at why "full-size" pickup trucks keep getting bigger when they were already the biggest consumer vehicles on the road. No one needed a bigger 1/2-ton truck, so why did they buy them? If you needed more power and towing capacity, you could simply buy a 3/4 or 1-ton truck instead of larger and larger "1/2-ton" trucks which have completely outgrown that classification. "Stupid" is exactly the right word, so thanks for that.

Little known fact, trucks have been getting bigger thanks to the EPA. Opposite of what you would think. The smaller the truck, the better the fuel economy needs to be to not get fined. When you get down to the size small trucks used to be, the necessary milage is just unrealistic and would make it too expensive for what it is. So the alternative is to make them bigger. That's government logic for ya.

I had a 19 ridgeline and traded for a 2023. Gets good mpg unloaded and around 15 pulling a sxs on a trailer. People like to say they buy Tacoma's because they want to off-road but I'm over here like why would I want to spend 40-50k on a truck only to tear it up on a trail? The aforementioned sxs costs 1/4 of the price and has more ground clearance and less weight than a Tacoma. That's just one factor for me the other is ride quality. I have a few friends with Tacoma's and they all ride worse than my ridgeline on the road. To each their own.
