Most Toyota fans, including myself, prefer non turbo engines. The engines with turbos are stressed to the max and fail much sooner than a non turbo engines. The new Tacoma’s looks great, but unless you ready to take a 50k gamble, I would not buy one. The Tacoma is in the same boat as the Tundra.

Not all turbo engines are equal. The 2.7 in the Colorado is built up like a diesel. Its very reliable. Diesels usually have turbos and they last a very long time. But they are over built to handle the higher compression. There is a video with a GM engineer showing the insides of the 2.7. Its has impressive technology. They even have a way to keep the inter cooler going after high speed to idle where things can heat up. It would be interesting to see a toyota rep show off their 2.4 in the same manner. Toyota thinks they can just sell on reputation alone lol. GM is pretty proud of the 2.7 as they should be. Also their inline six turbo diesel is a beast and well built. Toyota's D4D turbo diesel is probably the best engine they make and would be perfect in the taco. Sadly they will never offer that in North America. And its pretty clean burning. Might not even need DEF to pass emissions.

This motor does not feel stressed, even slightly. I will definitely be extra precautious about getting routine maintenance done more often and ahead of schedule though. It’s not exactly a new motor either, and its cooling system has been beefed up substantially. The good news is, you don’t have to buy one if you don’t want it. 🍻

Simple, don’t buy one. As an owner though, I can tell you it’s an awesome truck. It’s better than the gen 3. Truck King blew up the clutch and says, “the truck broke…” I downshift from 5th to 3rd many, many times a day and my clutch is holding up perfectly fine. Honestly, all of the midsized trucks have their strengths and weaknesses, and I think they’re all awesome, but the Tacoma has a manual, and that’s what I wanted coming from my gen 3 MT. The issues that are circulating around about this truck have been blown out of proportion, and those videos just happen to get the most views. Dude driving in the truck king video immediately pegged the rev limiter and he very badly blew a downshift after turning on the iMT feature (it’s off by default). The TFL issue was bizarre, but it hasn’t happened to anyone else’s truck, and it only would potentially affect the auto transmission. Every time you buy something new, there’s a chance that something might be wrong. BTW, the body panels on mine are lined up much better than they were on my gen 3 too. It feels very well put together.

I feel like you’re taking a little bit of a risk on any new truck and especially first year of production but I’m a huge Tacoma fan so I just can’t see myself buying anything else lol I really like the way it looks compared to all the other midsize trucks. Just don't care for turbos, What will happen is as soon as it drops out of factory warranty, the turbos will start leaking or something will happen, and it is expensive to fix.

I don’t know how all this will work out over the next couple years but I am so glad I got my 2023 TRD OR when I did. You can’t touch anything in 2024 but an SR for what I paid for my 2023 TRD OR. 9k mark up from one year to the next for similar options. Thats crazy.

I got the TRD Sport with the Premium 1 package back in April and just hit 2,100 miles. The only features I wish my truck has is the rear view mirror camera and the power tailgate. Other than that, I have not run into any issues so far. I also have a 23’ 4Runner that I’ll be trading in once the 25’ Runners come out.

You use to get 5 pounds of sugar at the grocery store but now it's 4, price didn't go down for getting less. I like that sport with the hood scoop, Kenny. Is the price more than what it is really worth? Probably,yes. Toyota is not going to change the price for one individual. Would it be better with a V6,yes it would. Don't think they gonna make a special Tacoma for anyone who doesn't want the 4 cylinder. It is what it is. Thats their product they have to offer. Anyone who doesn't like it can buy something else. I do enjoy watching your vids and seeing all the new vehicles.

One advantage to Third generation Tacomas (non turbo) is they can use regular gasoline. That’s less expensive than premium fuel.

Exactly you have a great truck in a awesome color! If it’s not broke don’t try to fix it ! One of the big reasons why I would like a new one is I’m around them more then my own 2023 trd pro Tacoma lol and I think they looked pretty cool all hooked up ! From what I've heard the truck is probably ok for normal driving conditions. Where I hear issues is when owners actually use the advertised capacity and tow of the truck. TFL overheated the rear diff towing up a mountain. But they did not tow more then the max allowed. Not sure what Toyota does to cool the transmission but I would strongly suggest installing an external inter cooler up front with the radiator. Others have over heated the transmission going off road. A few YT's show this as well and owners mentioning that in the forums. My 2019 frontier Pro 4X has an external intercooler mounted up front with the Radiator. And its factory installed. Not sure why Toyota has got so cheap on critical components. They literally build this thing as cheap as they think they can get away with. But the bean counters seem to have too much control over engineering it seems. I'm also worried there might be other components in the 8 speed that are not up to the job to move a heavy body on frame. So with the taco its the 8 speed that ends up being the deal killer. With the Tundra its the motor itself. Not good. Also the Manual transmission is garbage. It should not have failed under those conditions with truck king. Its happening to others as well. Toyota knows there is a problem but currently no fix. So avoid that I would say for now. Stick with the 8 speed and stick a heavy duty intercooler on it if you want to be an early adopter.

Just a heads up these things jump in price hella fast once you start adding gadgets and gizmos, so here’s my 2 cents on that: Don’t get anything you don’t need or won’t use. The rear sliding window is dumb… way too small to be useful anyway, and you get better visibility and lower cost of replacement if it breaks. The moon roof, dumb unless it’s a must have for you, but it’s a truck, remember? It’s just another potential pathway for water to get inside. Tow package, if you plan on towing, yes because you’ll want the OEM trailer brake. Side steps, definitely a waste of money and there’s always the aftermarket (you can probably find them on eBay for cheaper since a ton of people remove them anyway). Leather seats, down to taste, but I don’t think they’re worth the price (a nice set of seat covers will do the job). Auxiliary power in the bed is a nice to have, but do you really need it? Powered tailgate… the dumbest thing. The tailgates on these trucks are light as hell and they’re dampened. Sound/entertainment system, bigger screen yes! JBL sound, meh. Bed liner, it’s a composite bed!!! Buy a bed mat if you’re worried about scratching it lol. You can get a nicely equipped TRD truck for less than $45K, easily, if you leave out all the unnecessary packages and extras. If you live in cold weather areas, heated seats are nice, and they don’t add much to final price if you want em. Don’t sleep on the new taco, especially if you haven’t even tried driving one.

Got my 4th gen Sport premium 4x4 with 10yr extended warranty for $56k out the door. Paid $46k for my ‘23 sport 4x4 and have so much more on my ‘24, the stuff I have that I didn’t makes up the difference in price with no regrets imo.

Kenny they ain’t giving you jack lol.. you can demand you want 100k warranty they will be like yeah if you pay for it lol… besides the manual gearbox on these.. I can’t really say much. I have a fully loaded taco sport most of the bell and whistle out the door 50k.. that air dam is b.s I took it off it looks good no wind noise and I get more miles per gallon without it.. been thru towing , down pour car washes . No issues. I have a 3rd gen and I love it.. but I have to say the 4th makes the 3rd gen feels laggy and old. You know you’ve driven these 4th gen 👍🏼..

Toyota seems to be in trouble right now. They have been known for reliability and that is certainly in question. I have had five Nissan trucks, the latest is a 24 Frontier Pro4X and I'm happy with it.

Toyota is dropping the torque to help the drive train not break instead of building them to handle the torque. Did Toyota even test these things before putting them on the market? Not all of us drive them like grandpas going to church. Even my 32 year old hotrod with a stock transmission can handle dumping the clutch at full throttle with drag tires. Might as well save thousands buying a crappy Ford if you're going to buy junk. At least parts will be a whole lot cheaper at the junk yards after warranty runs out. Toyota wanted over 3 thousand for the extended warranty with my 2020 Camry. I didn't consider needing a extended warranty with a Toyota when I bought it. The drive home from the dealer made me reconsider that.

I wouldn't even call that a truck if you take a good look all around a lot of the body panels don't line up the whole interior Dash is all plastic no soft touch at all it feels cheap and it looks cheap it feels like plastic from a water bottle recycling center Transmissions are dying on them it's just a matter of time until the 4 cylinder turbo motor has problems it has a princess tailgate KZread videos from tlf the front drive shaft broke on it what's another KZread when the clutch went on the manual model they had to pull over and get it towed no fit and finish at all, I wouldn't buy that expensive garbage if it was the last thing on the planet I have a lot less stress walking or biking!!!! If they still had quality control like they used to 20 years ago Toyota would have never let this thing come out on the market cuz it's a total disgrace!!!

"Should buy",...haha, I guess if someone wants to believe like faith in god or if bigfoot really exists, but electric and hybrid garbage is never going to be reliable or affordable except for big city richy people looking for a conversation bragging point at their cocktail parties. I'd have considered a toyota truck if they didn't have those dangerous exploding batteries in them,....in the cab of the truck.

@@littlekennytv5668 I forgot to mention, as a minimally experienced new car buyer with loads of other experience, and having been a certified mechanic,.....I'd never opt for a turbocharged four banger in a truck that size unless we are talking bout the old days toyotas and datsun/nissans, ford rangers,..but even then a turbo is a bad idea of a heavy load on an engine,...have fond memories of owning those small trucks. None of that turbocharged nonsense from any car company,...like no turbo'd v6 ford trucks. Bout the only vehicle I'd buy new,...maybe,..would be a custom ordered ford f250 base model with 4x4 and steel wheels and super cab, no extra special garbage add ons,..but even then guess I'd be payin too much,..plus I'd have to research the engine that would go into it,..a gasolene model cause new diesels are way over the top unreliable.
