I only know one model S owner and they have the exact same issue discussed here. It means they end up driving their other car whenever possible. People have different braking styles that are informed by driving ICE vehicles. Sounds like the new Model 3 is a big improvement.

The Tesla Model 3 is the best car I have ever owned. No noise, no emissions, less fuel cost, less maintenance costs, software updates over the air, it is a great vehicle. Tesla makes some improvements to their cars regularly. It seems like every month something is improved. When they find a problem or a better way to do something they implement it. They don't wait for yearly or model changes.

I believe you are (unfortunately) stuck on FSD Beta 11.4.9. The current version is FSDS 12.3.6 (not Beta) and it is TOTALY different and NN/AI based (no longer rule based). Unfortunately it is not available for 24.8.x and higher software yet, despite what Elon says. Whenever you get V12 FSDS you need to make a new review.

True but even with the older versions of fsd Tesla was still in the lead. Consumer reports is straight up lying to us when they say otherwise. Cr may not take advertising dollars, but they sure as hell take DONATION dollars and the ford foundation is one of their biggest donors. You can’t say that doesn’t skew their ratings to some degree

Dealbreaker for me is the looks of the Tesla, looking stale and boring now. It looks like a blob with ugly outdated taillights. Tesla looks like an egg. Then u look at the interiors, and its night and day compared to some other quality EVs. The tesla doesn’t even have a HUD or gauge clusters. What a boring cockpit to sit in. So plain Jane and no premium or special feeling.

+1 and I feel CR let readers down by keeping the Overall Score apparently based on tests of the 2017 car. I have a 2023 Model 3 (pre-refresh) and the ride is good, and they even called a new "comfort" suspension. I also feel like the high tire pressure recommended should be part of the discussion.

I thought we always let someone know their lights are off by turning ours off and then back on rapidly a couple times? That seems to be the universal message they understand.

You should experience the supervised FSD before trashing it . I have been a consumer report subscriber for over 15 years. An open mind would go a long way . I am 66 years old - The fsd as it is has saved me a Few times !

Lowly Chevy Bolt EV has a solid lit yellow star in the mirror glass when a vehicle is in your blind spot. If you put the turn signal on and there is a car anywhere in the danger zone in the adjoining lane, the star blinks rapidly. That makes perfect sense to have the indicator right on the mirror glass. The way Chevy does it seems very organic with basically zero learning curve.

I have the new Model 3 and it’s the first time I’ve had a Tesla or EV. Honestly the speedometer being slightly off centre on the side of the screen has never been an issue for me at all. Very slight glance and I can see it. I don’t know why some people see it as a huge issue

Feels like some on this CR review crew have FSDH or full self driving hate. I get the promise of a truly self driving vehicle is not here yet, but this is one of the best driver assist tech out there currently. When Tesla had the one month free trial, I used it everyday and it got better with every passing week. I actual had it drive mevand my wife from home in the Central Valley of California through the south gate of Yosemite, all the way through the Yosemite valley floor, and home. It did great. They need a pay windows option for when you ate going to place where you have to stop and pay. It got thrown off once by a mix of shadows, wet, and dirt, so it slowed down a ton, I had to goose it to go on. It also go thrown off by end of 30 mph zone sign. It thought that was the speed limit. Still, think about five hours of driving and 99% done by the vehicle. Twisty mountain roads, freeway, towns, etc, and FSD 12 did it very well. No one is going to pay the money for a one time license of FSD. If you did not have the CR piggy bank this vehicle would have been bought and a monthly subscription would have been the option used.

I am a Model 3 owners. Some points are fair some are baffling. The notion that an experienced Tesla owner struggles to drive it smoothly, is baffling, never had a problem. Turn signals, drivers typically don't turn the wheel and then activate the turn signal, they activate them before they initiate the turn. If your hands are at 9 and 3, and then the turn signal buttons are right next to your thumb, no need to look at them. Gear shift is typically done while stopped. Door handles, modern low drag, not a problem. I drove a 2024, take aways, much better ride, much quieter.

I look forward to waiting patiently for a newer or older driver in these new model 3s trying to execute a 3 point turn on a narrow 2 lane while using the screen to shift. I was a bit thrown for a loop when the reviewer stated he is at a light stopped with the wheel cranked over already...great way to end up in the opposing lanes of traffic if you get rear-ended.

@@path4061 I am 73 years old. Drive and Reverse are clearly marked on the screen. I drove a 2024 Model 3 as a test drive. Shifting and turn signals were a non- issue, in like 5 minutes of use. I currently own a 2021 Model 3. No one has ever said the felt sick riding with me. 2024 rides much better, and is much quieter, my main complaints about the car. Agree that when waiting to make a left, keep the wheel straight, until you are ready to complete the turn.

CR’s hardware-centric mentality is an inappropriate throwback in this era. I’m far from a Tesla partisan but CR is coming off as borderline clueless.

@@FrunkensteinVonZipperneck bicycles don't have turn signals. Motorcycles and scooters have physical buttons and not touch buttons for your indicators. There is a very good reason why you don't have "turn stalks" on a motorcycle and unlike a motorcycle you won't keep your hands "effectively" glued to specific hand grips on the end of handlebars. Hard to imagine how these differences don't stand out to you as obvious.

Jake needs to really try FSD 12, it’s an absolute cheat code. Just got back from a 2K mile road trip, it’s a game changer.

BEST SAFETY FEATURE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT!

As much as Consumer Reports downplays FSD, it is light years better than the competition. Compare them yourself first then decide. Also FSD works everywhere not just on main highways with clear weather , well marked lanes and traffic.

I like the blindspot warning light. It's simple, subtly elegant, and intuitively placed. It's the kind of thing most people will adjust to immediately. The typical orange indicator on a mirror can be difficult to see (especially in certain lighting conditions).

Tesla already has that anti-left lane technology! If you're on Enhanced Autopilot or FSD, it will prompt on the screen to get out of the passing lane, and make the move automatically. At one point I think the setting could be disabled, but I just took a quick look through my settings and I'm glad to see there doesn't appear there's a way to disable it anymore

How long have you guys been driving?? I’m 54. It’s ALWAYS been you turn your headlights off and on to tell someone their headlights are off. Flashing is to tell them their brights are on. Learned that when I was 16.

15:34 that's just a secondary way of seeing blind spot warnings. The very first thing you should do in a Tesla after indicating, is glance at the nice big super sharp camera view of your entire blind spot area that immediately comes on the screen. It gives you a better view than your side mirror. This is superior to other cars. Yes, you have to adjust to a new way of doing it, but it's objectively better once you do and takes very little time if you are the owner and regular driver of the car.

Thought it's worth pointing out why Tesla brake pedals feel "normal". The reason is because on a Tesla they only actuate the friction brakes, which is also why you cannot turn off one-pedal driving. Other EV manufacturers use an electronic "brake-by-wire" brake pedal that automatically mixes regenerative braking with friction braking, which is how they are then able to provide different levels of one-pedal driving on the accelerator pedal.

I have an idea for a safety feature: a mirror on the back of the car that you can flip up so when an idiot with their high beams on is driving behind you, you can “illuminate” the issue for them.

The turn signal stalk elimination does NOT make sense. I own the car. It's an inferior solution. It's usable, and you do sort of get used to it after some time, but it's not in any sense as good as a stalk and will never be as intuitive or easy to use. Stop being a fanboi.

The entire car is re-engineered. Complete different ride and the 2024 performance model 3 is mind blowing !! ⚡️

FSD is no longer beta. It is now supervised full self driving, which is not misleading. It is also AI end to end. No discussion here of the AI aspect, just grumbling about it is not what it ways it is - before driving it.

Ahoy, y’all. 2023 Model Y has lane change fouled indicators in the quarter view activated by the turn signal. A red band on the left side. To be usable, you have to reposition the view at the top of the autopilot pane. 2024 spring update revises the autopilot display bigly. If you try to roll into fouled space, a robust warning is given.

Now that the NACS (Tesla) charging standard has been adopted by other car makers, wouldn't it make sense that Tesla gets rid of their in-house Supercharger team and potentially leverages some of these other players (Ford, Hyundai, GM, etc.) to step up and create a team where expenses are shared? Why should Tesla have to continue to foot all the bills on creating more superchargers?

I have Weather Guard mats in model Y for dogs and beach sand. No issues with them. These ordered from Tesla.

Recently rented this new model 3 and beyond impressed with the new refinement and improvement in quality. If they do these same updates to the Model Y it will be my next vehicle.

For the headlights off problem, Canada has implemented a regulation since 2021 that say if the headlights are off, the dash has to remain dark to inform the driver, or the car has to have rear DRLs as well. That's an easy solution that the US can adopt as well!

Door handles that have been around since 2018 and are on five million cars, including the best selling car model in the world.

Good review. I just got a RWD version. I’m used to the indicators, but in certain situations like these you discussed, it’s not great. I love the gears on the screen, because its ability to put you into the right gear itself is great. Most of all, I wish it had a heads up display. But other than that, it’s one of the nicest, most fun cars I’ve ever driven.

I like Alex's idea to have a "safe driving meter." Tesla's "safety score" is a step toward this, but it needs to be real time dash readout like Alex described. Some people will be annoyed and ignore it, but if it helps some other people to realize they might need to be a more defensive driver then it should help reduce accidents. To warn someone there lights are off, the long time method is to turn your lights out and back on.

18:089 sir, why is your wheel turned when you're waiting at a light? In 99.9% of waiting at light scenarios, your wheels should be pointed straight, no? Also, you indicate your turn intention as you enter the lane, so your blinker would already be on if you're in a left turn lane, for instance.

I have a 2021 Model 3 Long Range with Acceleration Boost and Enhanced Autopilot. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned. No emissions, fun to drive, comfortable. With respect to Jake’s comments about the regenerative braking and how it makes his passengers nauseous when he lets up on the accelerator- I don’t have that “jerkey” issue that he mentions. Might I suggest it’s Jake’s driving?

It’s absolutely his driving. You can absolutely drive very smoothly while having regen braking turned on. And it is NOT difficult to do. Don’t get what his problem is but I’m convinced the issue lies with him, not with regen enabled driving.

He’s talking about the “S”, not the “3”.

Many of CR's criticisms seem to come from a point of view of hopping into the vehicle on occasion and therefore they aren't familiar with the vehicles. And that's fair, the Tesla vehicles are pretty different from other vehicles. But daily drivers will learn the vehicle and in many ways, it is superior. For example, the one pedal driving from before wasn't nauseous if you learn how to control the pedal. It doesn't take long to learn. Similarly, the gear selector on the screen isn't an issue.

Safety Feature suggestion: I do a lot of work on cars just on the side. From what I've seen, there is an extremely large percentage of people driving on tires that are worn out or bald. If you don't believe me next time you pull into your supermarket just take a glance at the front tires of cars as you are walking in. There should be a safety system that puts a Warning light that the tires are worn out. Half time when I mention it they are oblivious to the situation and the other half I have to scold them about how unsafe it is.

Like my brother who bought an extremely low mileage(1,+++) 2013 Corvette. When I mentioned he should replace the tires on his 180-mph car he got pissed. "They only have !,+++ miles on them". I referred him to the Corvette website that advises replacing the tires in just a few years despite low mileage. He still hasn't. We took a run to the store on surface streets in a SW retirement community and on the way back he hit 130+ on a back access road... I'm the one pissed now and still.... and so it goes.

19:21 those backup PRND buttons are in case the screen blacks out. You can use them anytime if you prefer, but they weren't put there for normal use.

Buying a Tesla is like buying an iPhone. There’s no hassling involved.

The Tesla Model 3 has always had smooth regen braking. At least, it’s been smooth since 2018 when I got mine. I can see passengers getting sick if you’re constantly accelerating and lifting your foot off, but it feels smoother than having a human press the brake pedal. It completely depends on how often the driver is lifting their foot off. Having regen braking encourages the driver to brake more often

Re. the last segment, my feature: Automatically turn headlights on when wipers go on/are turned on manually. Requires no leap in technology. Could be easily be added to every new vehicle produced.

And speaking of cars driving around without their lights on…all cars have to have DRLs, which are on during the day. And at night you’re supposed to have your lights on. So why not REMOVE the “Lights off” function? Basically have cars always be in auto lights mode, and during the day the car switches to DRLs and at night it turns on its light. If people can’t turn the lights completely off or don’t have to remember to turn them on then the problem would be solved.

Gentlemen, the Tesla FSD is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else in the business in the field of autonomous driving. This is possibly the most difficult thing to achieve, and not only in the automotive world. The system has been perfected for a long time now and has gotten better and better. Eventually it will reach highest level of automation and will be the first one to do that, and that will be the greatest achievement in the automotive industry in the 21st century. As serious journalists you have to understand that and not only blindly criticize, but acknowledge and encourage Tesla’s efforts and achievements.

You completely forgot about difference compared to original release. Heatpump, power trunk, suspension(Koni Frequency Selective Dampers), acoustic glass, seats, new cameras, entertainment computer, screen, new rear screen, blind spot monitoring indicator the list goes on. When you are comparing with cars like Ioniq 6 and all, you guys keep forgetting what you are getting with Tesla, for example, Autodimming, autofolding mirrors, heated rear seats, best audio system with 15/14 speakers, rear monitor with entertainment, better acceleration, reliability, sentry/dashcam features, best Lane keep/auto cruise, the list goes on.Tell us what EV in this price range has Frequency Selective Damping suspesion? None! Jake comment about Tesla can't do even Turn signal/floor mats? Seriously? only company in the world which revolutionized Electric car industry and you talk as if they don't know how to do basic thing when whole industry trying to catch up to them. Despite what you are saying you are not biased, you guys are clearly very biased against Tesla, not just this review, but pretty much all your reviews. I do like Anti-Leftlane hogging technology idea, and I am all for that.

14:47 - oh boy…the screen has always had a real-time display of the car and cars immediately surrounding it. If there is a car in the blind spot on the screen, there is a car in the blind spot. No need to do anything else to check blind spot. If you subjectively need more than that, then turn on the blinker and observe the live camera feed from the quarter panel camera. If you need still more than that, this is the point in time is where you can do the over the shoulder look at the blind spot if you don’t believe the two cameras that already looked at the blind spot. Then, change lanes. None of the red flashing lights or other mirror-mounted red lights are necessary. It all happens in one smooth motion, and takes very little time. Do you drive a Tesla?

Greetings from Canada and thank you for this review. I am a long time subscriber to Consumer Reports. My comments on this video are: • Regarding the turn signals… I believe this problem will be largely addressed when Tesla moves to Steer-by-Wire (like the CyberTruck) on all vehicles as the total movement for the steering wheel is only 270 degrees so there is no need for the driver to change their hand position on the steering wheel. This way the button will stay in the same place all the time. • I tend to agree with the suggestion of a heads up display so the driver can check relevant information without having to re-focus on the center mounted screen. I would also prefer an analog display for speed so I can check my speed without the need to refocus on a digital speedo - just like you can see what time it is with an analog face watch without looking at it directly. • I believe you need to put some serious driving time in with FSD active. It will surprise you just how close Tesla is getting to this working far far better than any human driver. FSD has seven cameras and a computer that is never distracted. FSD usually sees impending problems way earlier than any human operator. • I believe it is almost time to put aside “real driving” as a thing of the past. The place for that will be on a closed track - the same as you would to ride a horse. What proportion of buyers are fully committed petrol heads that enjoy the whole experience of ICE engines revving, manual gearboxes, gasoline fumes, noise, vibration, etc.? I think many people being born right now may never hold (or need) a driver’s license. We are right on the cusp of a paradigm shift on the value proposition relating to private vehicle ownership with FSD now imminent.

Just a note; there are 3rd party accessories with which you can customes regen % if you want from 0% to 100%. Not ideal, but available.

"Let's get right to it . . ." is the one thing the dialogue here did NOT do. And not redesigning every year or three is historically done by hacks like Rolls Royce. Was this opening section meant to be a summary, or just "our impressions only?' Too many 'well we'll get to that in the testing' type of remark. I appreciate the effort, but it was confusing and not thought out as much as it might have a been. IMHO only. Thank you for the effort.

Regarding the lights off issue. I will usually get behind the car with it's lights off and turn my lights on and off to signal to them their lights are off. When they see my car effectively disappear from their rear view into darkness, they usually get the idea.

Unless they are drunk and even the horn won't get a rise. I once followed a woman down a canyon road into town as she went from shoulder to shoulder and didn't go off the road. As soon as she hit town she jumped the curb into the first light pole. Nothing got her attention but that light pole and I'm not even sure about that.

16:34 these are an objectively better way to do it vs. stalks. You never have to move your grip at all from the wheel, or change it in any way like you do with stalks. You simply move your thumb half and inch to turn them on. Change is hard, but this change is simply better. You adjust very quickly to the different way of operating it.

On my Audi Q5, even if the headlights are manually in the off position, when the ambient light sensor thinks its dark enough to need them the car chimes and displays a message on the screen "please turn on headlights" (or something along the lines of that). Something like that in other cars seems like an simple way to help mitigate that issue.

Really the cluster and screen should be off if its dark out and your headlights are off. If you don't want to pull in your driveway with the lights on, you don't need to know your speed or RPM or have the GPS going.

I hate blind spot warning... I mean, I recommend it to most, but here's the thing, I don't know how it works in the rest of the world, but at least here in the US, people don't use their rearview mirrors correctly. Right off, if you see duplicates in the mirrors, it's wrong. I get into cars driven by people my same height all the time and what do I see? In the rear view mirror, I see the car behind me centered. In the right mirror I see the same car, and in the left mirror I see the same car. Adjust these so that there is essentially no overlap, and it solves everything. It takes a little getting used to, no doubt, but it's a gamechanger. Once you have that calibrated, you don't have blind spots... assuming your cars mirrors are even capable of being moved to angle out that far... which is a clear sign Americans don't use the mirrors in the ideal way. From that point you do very light movements of the head to double check for motorcycles sneaking up real close and disappearing between what may be a tiny gap in the continuity, and everything is 100% accounted for.

Regarding the proposed safety features, the one about the left lane issue isn't a good idea if it automatically tries to move the car back into the previous lane. The reason is, on many highways in many States there are exits on the left lane and you have to drive in the left lane to use them. The "heads up display" is a good idea providing the driver has the option of turning it off. The other proposal about a device that basically tells you when you are driving unsafely is not good either. The reason is, good drivers don't need it and bad drivers would probably try to see if they could drive badly enough to get the worst reaction from the system.

The Model 3 (and S and Y) have the LOWEST probability of injury of any vehicles ever tested by the NHTSA, but you wouldn't learn that from this podcast. CR is all about safety, and spend 5 minutes talking about how the blind-spot monitoring light isn't cool. Forget about Twitter and treat the car objectively.

In the last year driving 4 long road trips in 23 MY, don't think a car could be quieter. Compared to ICE, it is dramatic going up and down grades effortlessly in silence. One peddle drive is smooth and safer in speed control. Center screen is perfectly visible and controls are easy. Cannot disagree more with CR criticisms. Seems their reviewers actually don't follow their recommendations when you hear their personal vehicle choices. Finding CR less relevant in auto reviews, better to do a your own research, survey multiple reviews, and test drive yourself. "Readers Digest" CR reviews are no longer sufficient.

I can jump into my friend’s Ford Lightning and drive it away like a regular car, everything is where it is with every ICE vehicle. I think Elon’s “best part, is no part” just makes it too minimalistic. I asked my wife about going to look at a Model Y, she doesn’t want to deal with charging at home or on the road. We bought a RAV4 Hybrid, getting 42 mpg and 580 miles of range…..

My current car and the previous one have had automatic headlights where "auto" is the minimum setting. You can't turn them off, and that would prevent people driving with their lights off if that was mandatory. Ambient light sensors are cheap and reliable.

I have a Tesla model S and I have zero issue with regen and neither do my passengers. If you have trouble with regen, you haven’t figured out regen.

I would like to see a two stage horn. One stage is a friendly whistle tone to tell somebody who may be looking at their mobile device that the traffic light has changed. The second stage would be like the current horn

I would really appreciate information about the version of FSD Consumer Reports is using. I have tried v10, v11, and currently driving on v12.3.6 which is incredible. Jump from 11 to 12 is by far the biggest improvement we have ever experienced when it comes to FSD. Name has changed to Full Self Driving (Supervised) with latest version v12.4 coming next week (per Elon, obviously this may shift a bit 😉). If you compare FSDs ability to drive your vehicle, nobody comes close. I really wish Consumer Reports created a Test, or real world route to test the various systems. I find your system rating misleading cause you 80% of your scores applies to the driver attentiveness and 20% to cars ability to drive for you. So all other vehicles score higher cause they alert me when they don’t work or if I don’t pay attention, yet those systems have constant issues and failure much higher than Tesla by a landslide. 🤷‍♂️

Would have waited for the highland but the loss of $7.5K on the RWD was not worth it for me. Paid $30k in Dec after tax rebate. I4 and other EVs were not an option new with this tech and driving for $30k!?

Turn signals are annoying. Fsd is getting much better fast. Fantastic car. Lovely to drive. Great sound system. Model Y has way more storage space.

For the doctor trying to replace his Transit Connect, Ford only discontinued the model last year. Since the 2023 lost the available 2.5 liter, I’d say look for a 2022 XLT with the 2.5

9:05 this is 100% user error. I have zero problems smoothly chauffeur driving in a Model S (I've owned two). Nobody is uncomfy when I drive it. This is true of every Tesla I've owned (multiple 3's, S's and now the CT), as well as the Y and X I've spent considerable time driving. Tesla is simply the best at tuning regen braking, and it's excellent across their lineup. Feather it lighter if this is happening to your riders.

When you are waiting at a light your wheel should not be turned. That is a safety hazard.

You are discussing in length human behavior, left lane driving, road rage, etc. Don’t you think if all cars are in an autonomous mode and are all making logical decisions, all that human factor luggage will be avoided and driving will be much safer? IMO this is going to be a huge improvement in the automotive safety.

It is interesting to see how seemingly small technologies and improvements are built into cars; we take them for granted. I own two vehicles with auto headlights; one is from 2012, and it works very well. The lights will turn on if you activate the wipers (Ohio Law and other states). But on my 2018 Focus ST, an "old clunker," when you have the front wipers active and you have to shift to reverse, the car automatically activates the REAR wiper in intermittent mode. That is regardless of also having a backup camera. Of course, by now, this is something I take for granted and is commonplace for me when the car does that. I would have included a cleaning spray nozzle for the backup camera to go with that feature. Now you have cars WITHOUT a rear wiper; even if it is obvious, they should have included one. Augmented reality HUD is one of my favorite safety features that should be made more available throughout the industry, at least as an option. It helps with situation awareness. If drivers would stop using their phones and other devices while driving... Why Tesla doesn't have HUD? IMHO, they like to keep costs down on their products as much as possible. Hence why, they removed and will continue removing obvious controls and buttons. I have more, but I will quit for now. Also, I'm just kidding about calling the Focus ST an "old clunker." It is the most reliable car I've owned, and it is a lot of fun to drive.. and has a manual "shifting thingy".

Flashing the lights to a left lane car begs the assumption they know the far left is for passing. So if they know, then they wouldn't be in the left; or that they're being speed limit righteous which means they won't move anyway. The oblivious ones just don't realize that they are the Traffic. *Uses Maury Povich voice.

The worst is when two cars in the right and left lanes are traveling the same slow speed slowing everyone down, and not providing passing ability.

No matter how you slice this … paying for full self driving for a test car was a bad call / investment no matter if consumer reports paid now vs a year ago. Monthly subscription for FSD has been available for quite some time now. The only reason I see why they bought it like this is because after car has gone through testing and gets put up for sale, most likely the employees of consumer reports get first dibs with a sweet employee discount. And someone high up the the management wanted to get fully loaded Tesla but at half the price and didn’t want to pay himself full price for FSD they persuaded the acquisitions department to shell full amount for this test car

Flashing lights to „ask” the vehicle in front to move out of the way is reckless driving in my country and several others in Europe :)) To be fair, hogging the left lane is also illegal, but if the flashing is hard to enforce, this is even harder unfortunately...

13:36 the entire purpose of that screen is for HVAC control and heated seat control. The games/videos are just a nice side benefit, it's not why they put it in there.

Safety feature. Headlights must turn on when it is dark and the car is on. Allowing the driver to turn off lights only if car is parked.

2:02 I guess you've never heard that Tesla has moved to one shot castings for much of the body in white on the Y and the partial on the 3? There are a lot of other things underneath the skin that have changed through the years on every model they make, in addition to skin changes and interior upgrades. So yes, we've repeatedly seen Tesla "redesign" their models, over and over again.

Hey, Tesla here's a suggestion for a new feature to make your cars undrivable! Put the steering wheel on the screen, too, so drivers can watch it all the time while they're driving!

Actually, that is the plan.

The anti left lane hogging technology is built into FSD. Tesla already can rate the quality of your driving. I think outside California, they will tell you how you are doing and use that rating to adjust your Tesla insurance rate. Progressive will do this outside California as well. Teslas already can be set to turn on their headlights when its dark. Do did my Chevy Volt. Every car should just do this and the problem will eventually disappear. You are totally correct about windshield based heads up technology. I haven't found a good 3rd party heads up technology yet to add to my Model Y

A new tech I want is a rear facing horn. So many times I want to use my horn to get the attention of someone behind me.

Some people might consider the rear screen useless for movie watching, especially when the car is being driven. Especially due to the screen size and location. However, what would the opinions be if the screen had every climate and control function (as it has) but was missing the entertainment features? People would ask why these features were not included when the screen was already there. Based on this I think It's a "good to have," even if it is not for everyone.

In many markets, including much of Asia, the premium car owner sits in the back seats and is driven, just as it will be soon with autonomy in a Tesla.

This is the first of your videos I've seen and it was pretty good. But I have a few views of my own. On the subject of blind spot system, it appears you don't know about the Red Bar on the side camera views. Whenever you put on the turn signal, if there is a car in my way, a huge red bar appears. This is much more powerful to see than the amber LED BLISS functions I had on my Volt and Ford Fusion Energi. I don't really have to look at the Tesla screen to see there is a big red bar in my peripheral vision and it automatically freezes me from changing lanes. I understand that you don't like the little LED added to the "Highland" Model 3; hopefully Tesla will bypass this little experiment on the Juniper Model Y refresh. But the Red Bar is so much better than other BLISS functions I've seen, you should be giving Tesla credit for that. I sort of agree with you that the left stalk for the turn signal is the best way to implement it. However, I don't really love the right stalk for drive, reverse and park. Since you shouldn't be moving when you change direction or park, there is no need for this function to be "eyes free". EV's don't benefit from D R P being on the right stalk. You don't seem to understand the difference between Autopilot and FSD. Last night's driving I did to a place 35 miles from home with zero interventions qualifies as Full Self Driving. I pretty much only take control in parking lots and backing into my garage. FSD is a new way of driving and has a learning curve. If you can remember back to when you were first taking driver's ED, you were nervous at first. You will feel that same way with FSD until you get used to it. That’s not to say Elon Musk didn’t jump the gun changing its status from Beta to Supervised; however, with the new AI architecture and DoJo, I can see the rate of fixes is so fast, next fall you probably won't have any serious mistakes on your trip. Maybe by then Tesla will have a tutorial and CBT (car based training) test for new FSD drivers.

The big disappointment about FSD for Tesla fans is not so much that it doesn't work it's the amount of money and resources it has taken away from other development. We can't help but imagine how many more models, colors, and features we could have had for that money. I tried FSD on a trip last week and it was not good. It would try to use lanes that were ending and turn only, even something as simple as phantom braking has not been fixed. It's more stressful to baby sit FSD than to just drive the car. Tesla only counts turning the system off as an "intervention" but that's not all of it, there are other things I had to do for it (lane changes for example) that didn't count as an intervention.

what about Lucid ? What's your take on that brand ?

My take on these guys comments, for whatever that’s worth, is I drive a lot of different cars and I don’t like that it’s not like every other car and my brain has to develop my synapses.
