You don’t need necessarily but I always suggest that if you are planning to travel in the mountains more frequently then it is better to invest in hiking shoes to protect ankles

I am about to publish a video on Manali Kaza road in October but apart from that road you can travel to Spiti valley in October. I will not recommend traveling on Manali Kaza road after middle of October in general and October end is a big NO NO from my side.

You will get mostly public transport available up to Kaza. Once in Kaza/Spiti, you may need to hire local jeeps or local personal taxi

Shared local jeeps work between Kaza to Rampur and Kaza to Reckong Peo. You will need to use them as buses mostly remain shut off in winter time.

Just go prepared with woolens and layered clothing to help you adapt varying degree of temperatures.

You can surely travel on the circuit in buses or public transport but places within Spiti Valley you need to look out for shared local jeeps or hitch hike as mentioned in the video above.

September in general is a good time to travel Ladakh and Spiti. Just check the weather updates before you leave for the trip, it seems like there are predictions for rains till end of the month but then it should clear up.

I want to know how much time does it halt at Nako for lunch? I don’t want to spend the night at Nako, just want to visit the lake? So will i get enough time? And is there another bus from nako (coming from peo) towards tabo in the evening?

There is only one bus to Kaza from Peo that I know, I think about 30 minutes or so it may stop for lunch. Unless you get a ride to lake, it may be touch and go. Then it could be shared jeeps that may be available from Nako to Tabo. There is a bus that goes till Chango that I know.

From Kaza, Can I go to Rohtang pass and get down the pass and take Atal tunnel and proceed towards Ladakh? Is there any restriction or will I be stopped. As I am not going to Manali, I would have not got any permit.

Just take the Rohtang Pass permit and you will be allowed. Without the permit they are stopping vehicles at Khoksar checkpost, i have not seen any official rule being published but have heard taxi unions is causing these issues. Just have the permit applied if you want to do it

Dheeraj, I have booked a bunker bed for two nights from May 28-30 at Zostel Sangla. Hope that's a better option rather than staying at Chitkul. Sangla must have a better view and acclimatization benefit. From Sangla I can visit Chitkul on day 2 and catch a bus to Recongpeo on day 3 afternoon.

It is perfect sir, like location wise Sangla/Rakcham are better than Chitkul because they help in acclimatization which really means much for any high altitude trip

@@discoverwithdheeraj thanks Dheeraj. No flights to and from Delhi this time. I intend to carry my DSLR camera which weighs over 3.5 kilos with lens and monopod. Train travel is convenient for carrying extra pieces of luggage unlike airlines. Backpacking this time. I shall be travelling in the train almost without a break for 38+5 hrs from Mangalore to Shimla via Chandigarh and Kalka(Toy train), waiting for almost 12 hours at Shimla and then on to Sangla by HRTC bus for another 10 hours. I can reach Sangla earlier than Chitkul and take full rest for the day after reaching in the afternoon. I may catch a bus from Shimla to Karcham leaving for Recongpeo early in the morning, say at 3:40 am or 5:00 am and reach Sangla from Karcham by shared taxi or similar means and be there by around 2:30 pm. Direct bus from Shimla to Sangla leaves at 7:15 am and reaches by 5:15 pm. That's the last option. A day out covering Chitkul and Sangla local sight seeing should be sufficient. I also get 2-3 hours on the 2nd morning at Sangla before vacating the hostel and catching a bus to Recongpeo. I am following your Spiti guide in detail. Bookmarked all the essential articles and videos.

Wow.. that will be some long journey!! But glad that you are taking full day rest up there at Sangla. All you have mentioned makes total sense to me and just that keep an eye open for shared tourists taxis too in Shimla or shared local jeeps. Sometimes you may find travelers in Shimla looking forward to share taxi. It is much rare than Ladakh in Spiti but keeping an eye around that point will also help sir.. I am very happy to know that you are following my articles... Besides, being solo has its own advantages. However, I don't want to cover the Shimla-Sangla route at night. I want to enjoy every mile of it in daylight. Hence I opted to start early in the morning from Shimla.

I will suggest add at least night stay at Nubra Valley before directly sleeping at Pangong. Order shall always be Leh, Leh, Nubra, Leh, Pangong or Leh, Leh, Nubra, Pangong. Latter has little more risk but still can be opted but without Nubra I won't suggest.

You can trek from Batal or Chandratal diversion/link road. Batal to that point is about 1-1.5 km and then from there Chandratal lake is 14 km. Road goes all the way to almost 13 km. Kunzum Pass to Chandratal lake trek must be done with local guide who knows the route

Bhai Taxi se jaana sahi rahega aapke liye kyonki aap 4 log ho aur fer us hisaab se Rs 900-1000 per day k kareeb aapko taxi milege per person par Shimla se Manali tak ki. Haan agar aap dekho to per person cost jo hai vo thodi jyada ho jaati hai aise par fer aap ache se sightseeing bhi kar paaoge

Yes bhai 3800-4000 per day rehta hai aur kyonki aap 4 log ho to main divide karke aapko 900-1000 per day bataya tha per person k liye. Agar aap is video wali 10 day itinerary plan karoge to Shimla se Manali tak 8 days chahiye aapko to kareeban 32000 puri taxi ka hoga

Sir, we are planning for kinnaur and Spiti trip at the last week of September and 1st week of October. I guess it is doable at that time? Also we are self driving in our own car Maruti Swift. Can we cross Gramphu and Chota dhara with that? Though my husband has plenty experience on mountain driving. But this is really tough one. We are planning to reach Manali from Chandratal. Is tent accommodation available on 1st week of October at Chandratal for night stay? What about night temperature? Is BSNL prepaid SIM enough for Spiti trip? Thanks in advance.

It is doable trip, you shall be fine. It will be challenging to cross that road but with caution and care you should be able to do it. Camps may not be available during that time, may be Parsol may remain till that time. BSNL/Jio are good for Spiti trip.

One order published by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, dated: 25.8.21 regarding exemption from mandatory requirement of possessing a negative RTPCR report or RAT test on their entry into the State/UT, who have been vaccinated with both doses of the COVID 19 vaccine a nd 15 days have lapsed since the administration of second dose of the vaccine and are in possession of the final vaccination certificate issued through the COWIN portal. Will that instruction till implement or not in LADAKH or will it be implement or not. Please responds your kind suggestion. Pl make a vedio to entry in LADAKH with recent/updated Covid instruction from month of Sep'21. you need to inquire about them prior evening so that you know when they are leaving as well. For long and infrequent route, generally the frequency and timing are fixed and it is not like they will keep running thru the day. Hence best to inquire a day before and know timings of them

Comparison video will come at the end of this series in logical order 😀.. Spiti trip is possible by public transport in winter but depends if the road is open or not during the days of travel. Peo Kaza bus runs to the points where roads are closed

Can I get two wheeler rental for local sightseeing in kaza? For 1 or 2 days. Can you make a video which includes public transport for long rides and bike rentals for local sightseeing. This will be very helpful for solo travelers.

Well, in my last year update videos I have covered it to an extent that two wheeler rentals were not allowed for last two years in Kaza. Nothing has changed yet this year so far, so as the season starts will know more if the issue is resolved or not. Otherwise all rental shops are non-operational for last couple of years due to some licensing issues. Regarding how to cover Spiti or Ladakh by public transport, I have the videos for it

Great information especially the idea through Excel sheet is amazing but the charges you have shown for staying 400-500 and fooding 100-200 is very less I don't think it's practically possible

Praveen bhai if you are willing to stay at homestays with twin sharing, I mean real authentic homestays, the charges are 800-1000 max and you can even get some cheaper ones too in remote villages.. since the idea of the video is to make a backpacking cheap budget trip, it will need some effort on the traveler part as well.. I have a list of authentic homestays and stay only cost you will be able to find in such range.. counting inflation in last couple of yrs since this video was published, there will not be any drastic change.. as for food as of today as well eating at road side dhabha will not cost you more than 70-80 rs for the meal.. but of course like I said in video, if you ear lavishly at restaurants in Leh then you are putting in more.. this video describes how to make a shoe string budget possible.. i have another video describing how to calculate the cost of spiti trip in general with more average budget range
