OSU ended up 122nd in total yards allowed and let Texas run up 700+ in the titles game... Their QB had as many INT'S as TD'S....

I don’t see this point brought up enough, Gundy and Whittingham have virtually an identical record and have coached for the same time span. But one was stacking wins in a power 5 conference while the other was in the mountain west 🤷

South Dakota State went 15-0, won the FCS national championship and virtually blew everyone out on their schedule. I don’t think they beat Oklahoma State, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Overall fair assessment on the team, especially in regards to the offense, best offense we have had in a very long time. There are some key elements that I feel you need to know about the defense before fully making judgement. The defense should be far improved this season. It honestly was not nearly as bad last season as it seemed. We brought in Bryan Nardo from the DII level, because of his familiarity with a 3 man front and his cultural fit with the program. I have never seen an entire side of a team have this much buy in for a new coordinator before. Or this level of excitement and happiness to coach somewhere, not because the team prestige or the logo, but solely because of the staff, community, and players. He constantly has entire position groups come over for cookouts. And so far his recruiting has been better than I have ever seen on defense at Oklahoma State, except the 2021 class under Jim Knowles. That 2021 class included these returning players: Kendal Daniels - 2022 Freshman All-America Team, 2022 Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year, 2022 Second Team All-Big 12, 2023 stats at Safety - 105 TOT, 62 Solo, 2 sacks, 1 FF (Strip and Recovery), 2 INT. 8th in Big 12 tacklers, 47th nationally. He also put on nearly 20 pounds and is getting pulled forward as a line backer. Collin Oliver - 2021 Freshman All-America Team, 2021 Unanimous Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year, 2021 Second Team All-Big 12, 2022 Second Team All Big 12, 2023 Second Team All-Big 12. 2023 Stats at Line Backer - 73TOT, 45 Solo, 6 sacks, 4 FF. He is moving to Edge Rusher, which is where he had spent his 2021 and 2022 seasons. Nick Martin - 2023 First Team All-Big 12, 2023 stats at Line Backer - 140 TOT, 83 solo, 6 sacks, 1 FF, 2 INT. He lead the Big 12 in tackles, 5th in the nation Trey Rucker (Transferred In) - 2023 Stats at Safety - 100 TOT, 62 Solo, 38 Assist, 1 FF, 1 INT. 13th in Big 12 tacklers, 59th nationally. Also a couple of other starters that missed most of last year due to injury. Oklahoma State was the only P5 team with 3 - 100+ tacklers, with Kendal Daniels, Nick Martin, and Trey Rucker. We have the PFF 9th ranked linebacker unit in the nation. We also picked up a couple of really good guys that have the ability to be starters by the end of the season. This is now the second year with Bryan Nardo at DC. We have seen now in the off season that he is making significant changes to position and scheme that will fit the players and the conference play better. You can go back and watch the games, pretty much every game we saw massive second half improvement. With everything that I have seen I expect that he will be able to make adjustments quicker in the game and coming out full gas from the start. And now the players are more familiar with the play style and getting slotted into positions that fit them better. It is a very experienced core and the other positions have a lot of depth. Also, Gundy has been much more active with this group of players than he has probably ever been, and has said that he feels more energized to coach than he ever has. Having been a long time Oklahoma State fan, I feel like this team is the best team in the Mike Gundy Era, even going as far to top the 2011 team. This schedule is also insanely manageable. This may be the only time I feel like going undefeated and winning the Big 12 is more possible than it ever has been, and if they are, then I think at least making the title game would be likely. Now then, again I have been an Oklahoma State fan for a long time and I understand that expectations and reality can sometimes be different. 9-3 and missing the Big 12 Title game is a possibility, I don't see any possibility of not winning at least 8. I know the short comings that we can and have played into in the past, but this year feels different. With the amount of buy in the roster, staff, and community has had in this team over anything I have seen here. The amount of #DAT (Dedication and Toughness, the team motto) from this program is extreme. If it is as it seems, I think that Gundy comes into every game with his foot on the pedal and not removing it. If he does that with this team, it will be scary. Again great analysis and summary. Gundy and his QB situation fucked us. If he played AB we win that game by at least 20. On top of that ollie wasnt getting carries. and at the end of all that, OU still managed to come in 3rd. crazy.

I agree with your picks, and I also think they will drop one in that 3 game stretch of Utah, KSU and WVU. That being said, I'm thinking it will be WV. Not because I'm a homer and think we are a better team, I just think by that third game in that tough stretch that Ollie Gordon will be either very tired or possibly injured and WV pulls it off. Thanks for this, Mr Lou 💪 South Dakota St is back to back FCS champions. That has me a little nervous, but we won't be illustrating why a 3 qb rotation is retarded again so probably a W. Hopefully the new D line coach we brought in will help with getting pressure on the qb and it will be our DCs 2nd year and hopefully the returning 10 starters on D will have a better grasp of that 3-3-5 system that was newly implemented last season. All and all you hit about every concern we have. Us Pokes are also confused with Vagas' 7.5 win total. On the bright side Vegas never does a good job with okst, its crazy but i believe okst has one of the best ATS records at home of anyone in the last 12 to 15 years. Thanks again, Go Pokes 👈🤠👉

Oklahoma state fan here. I think you’re right 10-2 both losses are correct. We’ve only won in Fort Worth once… 2016 and we whooped them. IDK why we struggle there.

Oklahoma State is one of those teams that has superior coaching but not enough depth. If they’re healthy they will beat your ass but a couple of injured players and they’ve got problems. Gundy gets 2 stars to play like 4s and 5s

james- if gundy gets 2*’s to play like 4*’s, depth should not be a problem. There is 2*’s all over the place.

I think you are definitely on track Lou. I think Oklahoma State and TCU will do better than Vegas thinks they will.

The question should be "which team(s) other than Utah and Kansas State does Vegas see them losing to?". If you can answer that question (correctly) then there might be some value in taking a look at the win totals for those teams and betting the OVER. (West Virginia, BYU, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech). Something tells me that 3 of those 5 teams will be better than people expect. The trick is to figure out which ones. And let's not forget about Arkansas. If Oklahoma State loses to Arkansas, Utah, and Kansas State, then Oklahoma State has to finish out the season 5-1 or better to win 8 games and for that "over" to hit.

I honestly have OKST 8-1 in conference play with their only loss to KSU. I also have Utah at 8-1 with their only loss to OKST. I then have KSU 9-0. Depending on what happens with KU and other teams near the top, you could have OKST making it to the CCG because of their win over Utah

Not really a delusional take at all. They could lose that Utah game too though and maybe Arkansas. But anywhere between 8-4 to 10-2 sounds realistic with that easy schedule. By his adjustments in halves and over the season, Nardo appears smart. If that is the case, with some key pieces back, this defense has a chance to be much better. If Bowman is truly as good as the orange koolaid guzzlers think, or if Gundy actually goes with the best QB, the offense will be even better. There is a chance, with the talent in the following rooms: LB, Safety, RB, WR, that this team could(I think should) win a playoff game. Unfortunately, Gundy has not shown that he can manage the big games unless the fan base is breathing down his neck. After reaching the Big 12 championship game last year, he is set for the next 5 years.

So waiting on Texas Hook’Em Wou Can’t wait til we play this year. Then next year we go to your house

I appreciate your objectivity but I think you’re slightly off base on the defense based solely on the drop in performance last year. We had a new DC, first yr in P5, & implementing a new system. Paul Randolph was brought in to improve the DL. Kendall Daniel’s & Kori Black are getting set loose this year compared to last. Nick Martin was the best LB in the B12 last year Colin Oliver is getting put back on the line to seek QB like he did in 2022 I have a feeling this defense is going to go off this year. Remember Gundy is somewhat of a savant finding young, unheard of coaches that turn out to be genius. Gundy All Day!!: 20yrs in the P5 166-79 18 bowls 12-6 8- 10+ seasons 1 losing season 1 Conference title B12 Vs Whittingham: 12 of 20yrs in P5 vs G5 162-79 11-6 in bowls 7-4 in G5 4-10+ (PAC) 4-10+ (MWC) 3 losing seasons in PAC 2 conference titles in PAC

BYU is driving on it's 2nd OT drive when the get to OSU 10 yard line and fumbles. Texas put 700 yards on this very same D they are going to start the season with.. Kyle has alot of g5 wins. Pac12 has been watered-down when utah wins. Just think utahs biggest win season they lost to a 7 win texas in the bowl. 2 title season with 8 loses. I can back down more.

Their schedule isn’t too tough but they struggled with the bad teams on the schedule last year not necessarily the good ones. They shouldn’t lose at BYU but they needed 2 OTs to beat a probably worse BYU last year. They shouldn’t lose to ASU but it took until the 4th quarter for them to take the lead at a terrible ASU last year. They shouldn’t lose to sdsu but they got blown out at home by south Alabama last year. That’s why their win total is so low, no one wants to trust a team that beat KU KSU and OU and then lost by 42 to UCF right after.

Liepold is the best coach in the Big 12.... hands down, not close.

You ignore that Gundy publicly said before the season last year he was using non con as preseason. He ran a 3 man rotation at qb and rb. It was a mess You also ignore OkStates record the week following bedlam. It isn't pretty. All of this experience with no "preseason" will make a huge difference, just got to stay somewhat healthy. Bedlam forever champs still got you thrown I see

@@Bravesfan12345 OSU had 2 FCS teams like they often do and got stomped by (FCS) South Alabama in Stillwater 33-9 and got stomped again by a 7 LOSS UCF 45.3... They beat ISU which was a awful ISU 7-6 and they got super lucky and got both KSU and KU in stillwater And after Bedlem lime I mentioned the next weeks they got stomped by UCF... Then OSU went to Houston and Houston was about to blow it open 30-8 wehn their stupid QB throws a INT right to a OSU DB and instead of Houston going up 30-8 to go into the half.. OSU scored 10 points in less than 90 seconds and Houston was done for the day.. Then all OSU had to do was beat a 5-7 BYU in stillwater to get to Arlington.. BYU goes up 24-7 over OSU.. OSU comes back int e second half and they tie it up.. OSU missed their 2 point conversion in the 2nd OT.. all BYU had to do was score a TD and kick the extra point.. But a fate had it.. BYU fumbles at OSU 10.. Then they go to Arlington and let Texas run all over them with 700 yards of offense..

Im guessing they blow a game late to a mid team and go 9-3. But i dont see 5 losses anywhere on that schedule
