I don’t understand why they want to change the draft. It’s great tv and it’s so wonderful for the players themselves and their families who sacrificed fifteen years of their lives for that moment

Players will still go to a central event, teams will just manage their picks from their office (see NFL draft). Allows teams be less secretive when talking as a group, better access to multiple lines of communication between teams for trades, space to spread out and have a draft board, etc.

What Chicago did was good. Levshunov-Boisvert-Vanacker . They traded away 3 second round picks to do that though. I would have preferred no trade and Demidov-Hage-Elick-Stiga-Skahan. I think Davidson traded away valuable picks and ended up with significantly less value in the first two rounds. Thoughts?

This draft was more about quality of their needs then quantity cause we did quantity the past 2 drafts and got our skilled offensive forwards. This draft was about quality, several months before the draft hawks needed a 2 way right handed defensemen, size, speed, and HIGH compete and they got that this draft speedy big sized players with high compete AND got THE best right handed dman this draft. We have the skilled small offensive scoring forwards already so it was OK to pass on demidov, even though it stings a bit, because we can get all the skilled forwards but without those big guy gritty physical forwards the hawks will get RUNNED OVER like maple leafs.....best to have balance in prospects to have those big guys to do the physical work to give room for bedard, nazar, moore, reichel, hayes, lardis, ludwinski, kanterserov, etc to do what their supposed to do. We can go back to quantity next draft if we want

Flyers had a very underrated draft: They traded back to pick Jett who is only two weeks old enough to even be eligible for this years draft and he went 13th overall. He is the youngest player in the entire draft. As well as trading the 32nd pick for oilers 2025 1st it is almost certain they will improve their draft position. The flyers will have 6 draft picks in the top 40 picks next year, which is a much deeper draft. Sure we passed on Hesillusin and Buium but neither of those player fit the teams build. We have players too similar to buium currently and hesillusin is a great player does not serve as a complementary piece like jeff will. Ultimately Jett and Michkov will be linemages in 3-4 years. Michkov is shoot first, a pure goal scorer and Jett is a natural playmaker with acceltion vision. helilsun is a great prospect but he’s a player that would shake up the way we are building. Flyers have been scouting Jett for 2 years and knew they wanted him, they were able to get a free 3rd round pick out of it as well. Great day for Philly

I like what they did as well. Getting another first rounder next year is way underrated. 6 picks in the first 2 rounds next year is pretty great. And then they like Luchanko more than Helenius. They are in the same range and the Flyers evaluated Jett higher. I don’t see a problem with that but people get enamored with these standard rankings. As for Buium, I’m okay with that too. There could definitely be more than meets the eye on the Flyers passing on him.

Actually… the Utah owner Ryan Smith said he wants to win, his natural emotion is that he wants to win now, but he doesn’t want to win at the expense of the future. He wants to be great for 10 years rather then sacrifice for a 1 year championship. He has bought into the “Boston Celtics” mentality of being good for a long time and periodically having to reload. I don’t think you have the full take or have researched him enough.

According to other platforms they ranked Anaheim above 90 or A- also they had their development camp and Sennecke stood out along with Cutter Gauthier and their new draft players. I get it you hate the Ducks and you have an opinion but also the Ducks have the best prospect pool in the entire league and some say they gotten stronger than last season.

@@TopShelfHockey How did Ottawa become winners and Ducks become losers? Top sports outlets graded Anaheim one of the winners in the draft lol. In every grade it was A to B+ and each calling Anaheim took a gamble at 3rd pick might be the best choice at 3rd Overall. Also they moved up with their 2nd 1st rd pick by trading the 31st. Sennecke at development camp showed us why he was picked at 3 gotta say Ducks made a great choice he's definitely not NHL ready as the GM assistant has said another year or two but time will tell if he's ready to which he signed his Entry-level so. You are judging a player way to quickly. There is a reason why Anaheim has the best scouts in the league and best prospect pool to which they are #1 it's really deep among other teams as for Ottawa they fall dead last.

Good point. I think the NHL is making a huge mistake in changing the format of the draft. The Sphere was a tremendous choice to host the draft. What a show. Also, changing the format will take away from the family element that has been, in my opinion, an important part of the draft story for years now. That in itself is a shame to lose.

The real issue with Toronto is the lack lack of draft capital and the reason they picked who the did because of all the picks Dumbass pissed away. And needed to recoup some picks to restock the cup boards. I don't hate the pick though. From what I hear he's been said to be the beast defensive dman in the draft he's big and a right shot. But if they pick at 23 they could've had a higher quality right shot dman.quality over quantity.

Ryan Smith definitely making some splashes right away. They are building a Hockey Team that should be very competitive for a lot of years to come. Smith has a certain way of doing things and the Fans Booing him just because Utah got a NHL Franchise is sad. I know most of Canada wanted to see another Franchise cross the boarder but at this point in time the game of Hockey is on the Rise here in the United States. As a Hockey fan from the States in my opinion the NHL has enough Teams in the League. Maybe Canada will get another Team but i just do not see that happening with Big Gary at the helm.

I was shocked as most with the Sennecke pick, but looking at his play I can see why the Ducks went that way. He moves the puck amazingly well for such a big kid. When he fills his frame after he finally stops growing and puts on 15 to 20 pounds of muscle over the next few years there is a good chance we see a beast of a player that no one thought was there except a select few. Riskey move, yes, but when Verbeek likes a player, he gets him. Right now I have no reason not to trust the pick. Massive potential but it will take a few years to see if he can reach or start reaching his ceiling. I really like the Solberg pick. The Ducks have so many offensively minded young D players/prospects, getting Gudas Jr will help the up and coming D core with Solberg's toughness.

Verbeek worked under Yzerman for awhile. It appears that Yzerman's drafting strategy rubbed off on him and I'm okay with that. Look what Yzerman did back in 2019 with Mo Seider who was considered a pretty big reach, it turned out great. I think Sennecke could be the same type of pick. Being 6'3" and moving and handling the puck like a much smaller guy makes him a very intriguing prospect.
