They may have not received one from the manufacturer yet, I have noticed recently that it has been taking longer for larger reviewing companies to get hold of a vehicle outside of controlled marketing days. It’s kind of like manufacturers don’t want to give media long periods of free range with their vehicles anymore, I wonder if they have cut their advertising budgets to some of these companies meaning they don’t have as much control over the review 🤷♂️ You only need to look at the new Mitsubishi Triton as a recent example, CarExpert has only recently released its review of it even though it’s been available to market for a little while now and the review definitely wasn’t afraid to pick on it at all. IMO the new Triton deserves the not so great review especially after all the media coverage about how Mitsubishi spent a lot of time in Australia learning the market audience so they can deliver a quality product and it seems they decided to stop 80% of the way in each aspect of the vehicle they delivered.

Great review. People forget Toyota have been doing hybrid stuff for over 10 years now. The hilux will do perfectly fine. Another thing. Really good to see Toyota have an auto stop start button most companies will hide and bury the function into the system. Might have to make the upgrade now.

30 years now. Toyota hybrid systems are some of the most reliable engines in the world world.
Toyota has really dominated the hybrid market for the last 2 decades. It’s progressive to see that extending to their entry level off-road models.
Like to see a 2000km town and country fuel test, just to see if it’s not a lot of nothing.
you dont NEED heated seats in Perth, but they defo are nice to have for that week of cold weather we get.
Great review as always Ronny. I love the heated seats in my SR5+ though! Not a fan at all of the start stop system, or the multi terrain select.
Toyota have been making cars using mild hybrid systems since about 2000 so they have history and experience with the technology. Definitely interested to see how this goes once they've been on the road for a while.

I recently hired a plug in hybrid wrangler during a trip to the USA. You can purchase a power bank adapter which plugs into the charger terminal and you can use it for camping power. However, I don't think they will bringing out the hybrid wrangler in oz anytime soon. And in Australia you don't need heated seats? Come on Ronny we don't all live in WA. It's usually -3 to 3 degrees in the outer skirts of Sydney and that's not nowhere near as cold as it gets in other parts.

Good review. Keen to see if we are still getting the facelift upgrade next year 🤞🏻
I use my heated seats all winter and would always tick that box when buying a car. I live SW of Perth so it is colder. As for the fuel saving. As soon as the owner swaps the tyres for a set of bigger heavier all terrains the savings are more than gone.
Not sure if people are aware but you can still order a hilux without 48v, only in the sr model though, there are two models of sr, one with steel wheels, vinyl flooring and no 48v and the other has alloy wheels, carpet and 48v. I just picked up my steel wheel sr and absolutely love it. Side note: the non 48v lux only comes in white as it’s more of a fleet option
Thx Ronnie. Just put an order in for the Rogue, as you say the world is moving towards hybrids, and I think this mild hybrid is the less painful way to go. The interior changes are much better, and I’m glad to see someone comment on the drive train/engine on and off road.

Still running the std tyres. So id be keen to know what advantage the generator system has. Great reviews

Another great review, the instant torque by the generator is amazing, plus bit of fuel saving, can you please get hold of tank 500 and do a review
Any chance you doing a video on Navara Warrior review. That would be helpful as your reviews being more useful and instructive than other regular car reviews
How does the hybrid work exactly? Does it charge only on lifting off accelerator? Or is it sapping power in straight line if battery isn’t charged?
Nice looking vehicle in that color, would look even cleaner without the sideskirts
I believe that just like the facelift 79, Toyota didn’t give anyone access so ARB and others have yet to design a bull bar to suit
Hoping this gennie thingy is using the same serpentine belt as the other accessories, and guessing it assists the crank, with torque fill and stop/start. Not a bad idea, Toymota.
Is the power Gen on it's own belt❓ Premature belt wear🤔
How did you golf the rear seats up?
Stop/start button and heated seats are standard on my 2021 hilux in Europe
May as well bring out a decent petrol motor option with all the diesel emissions rules
Excellent review Ronny. I must say what was Toyota thinking, apart from a marketing point of view, in regards to that AC point with only 100 watts, which will be useless, because it’s only going to give a maximum output current of less than half an amp, 455mA. Also being inside the centre console will make it difficult to get to, when you have your stuff in it.
did they put carpet in the sr or have they made the sr5 look like a pov pack?

Can't have both running at the same time, with a rear locker.
The term for vehicles like this is mild hybrid. Unlike a full hybeid it cant move the vehicle off from a stop without starting the engine, but it can chip in a bit with power and do regen breaking, unlike a stop start system. On running loads at 12v, a perk of getting it via dc system is that you get full power at idle (or just in ready mode.) My rx400h can do more than 2kW.
Hi Ronnie what is the price difference mate, and does it justify assuming it costs more?
Hi Ronny, I m getting my hilux in a couple of days .The vehicle sold here in india is regular 4x4 AT high . Is there a way Toyota could modify this unit similar to the one you review on this video once this unit becomes available here?
Interesting the battery charges under brakes, like regenerative braking in electric cars. I wonder how this would affect trailer sway and electric braking systems? And how long before someone puts a regen braking system in a caravan?

Thanks for the review. With the way that manufacturers are going towards PHEV and Hybrid's its a shame they don't incorporate ways of connecting to these massive battery systems for camping in the ever expanding overlanding segment of the market. The only ones I know of who do this are Jeep with the AUX switch system as an option. So no need for relays or anything as you can plug directly into 1 of 5 of the connections (4 switched, 1 accessories).
Do we know if this 48v system an add on? I looks like it could be a plug and play.
I do want one. I'm sure there is more issues with the more tech, but I'm not in the bush everyday either...

360 cameras , well I hope Toyota has improved the clarity of the image. Our Prado 21 VX model has cameras and it’s clarity is very soft. Even Chinese systems are way clearer.
I was curious if this sr5 has full disc brakes like the rogue?
In the event of a battery problem how do you jump start it or use it ta jump start another vehicle with no 12 volts direct off battery.
I want manufacturers to offer either the ability to tap into the 48v system to use for camping or to do like Ford has done for the f150. Full hybrid that has a built in 7.2kw generator. Wouldn't need that much personally but a 4-5kw that could power the AC on my trailer would be phenomenal! Hopefully by the time I'm ready to buy a new rig in 5+ years.
It’s interesting as the new Prado uses the new 48volt system with the 2.8lt diesel so I would assume it will be the same as the Hilux, more responsive and not more power which I think will be a good thing. Tossing up whether to wait for a new Prado Altitude or get the Lexus GX550. Would love to see you compare the 2 in the future. Would be a massive vid. 😀👍👍☝️
The new grill/bumper looks better than the old one.
My 2017 has enough factory fitted electronic stuff I don't reckon I want any more.
the 48v system is just one more thing to go wrong, and if its driving the main aux belt then it could snap it, think how much extra tension is required on the belt. also for us colder countries that location is where the “heat up” pump goes, so presume that is going to be binned off in favour of this. also no water to air cooler? glad I have a 2023 hilux :) 😅
For all the reviews on KZread, I trust Ronny's opinions more than most other's facts...
That's the scope of the video? I could have read the brochure.
