If Dillingham and Topic are there at 4 and the Spurs like both of them, I think there’s a good chance they would take a wing at 4. Detroit, Charlotte, and Portland are most likely not taking either of them, and it is unlikely a team would trade up in what seems like a bad draft to get either of them. If they fell in love with Buzelis, Castle, or Holland, I think Spurs take one of them at 4 in this scenario.

@@Mdksupreme1It doubles the odds that at least one of them pans out as your starting point guard of the future. That’s what the Clippers did in the 2018 draft they drafted two guards back-to-back (they didn’t draft Shai but they traded their pick and assets for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and then they drafted Jerome Robinson) with the idea that it increases your chances of getting a star guard. It worked. In the first season you could see that Shai had potential to be a good player and you could immediately see that Jerome Robinson was a bust. Obviously the Clippers messed up in the end but that’s business as usual for that franchise. Personally I think it’s a good idea to draft multiple players that play the same position, people are saying the Spurs need a PG why only give yourself 1 chance to get your guy when you can increase you odds especially when you have 2 relatively high picks? I get the arguments that they can just sign a proven guard in free agency though which isn’t a bad idea but most people like to believe these prospects have infinite potential, until they don’t, so why not roll the dice?

If Spurs get Castle at 8 thats a steal he has a lot of Jimmy Butler in his game on both ends I think and if his shooting comes along he has the upside to be the best player in this class that’s why I have him 2nd on my big board. I know Jimmy isn’t a point guard per se but he’s averaged 5-7 assists per game most of his career and Castle is way better than him at age 19. I know that’s a high end outcome but even if he’s 75% of Jimmy that’s worth a top 5 pick in this class imo

glad you loved the Ajay Mitchell pick! He's a baller. Kolek to me seems to be a more reliable Cam Payne. Better playmaking feel, more reliable spot up shooter but some of the same problems. Castle and Dilingham would be crazy for us. However I don’t think he makes it past hornets/blazers. I’d take him at 4. He will grow and he’s got best perimeter defense in draft. Then either dilly or topic will fall to 8

I think wemby has changed the nba again and people aren’t realizing it. Curry came in and changed it and no one realized until they made their playoff run. Wemby is tall as hell and has crazy ability to handle the ball and really move with it, the nba has never seen anything close to him. I think that the league is gonna change again where teams are going to need more bigs and forwards more like the 80s and 90s. Especially ones who can defend. I know Chet and wemby are small in physical stature and build then guys like embiid and jokic and get bullied right now but I think thier ceilings are much much higher because the base level of skill is so much larger. I’m a blazer fan so im used to losing and not a wemby/spurs fan, just someone who can see things as they are without my emotions and personal wants effecting my assessment. Wembys potential is crazy, Pop is the best coach he could have gone to and played it incredibly smart by limiting his minutes which I think he may do next year as well because the risk of injury to a guy like wemby is super high and until he is a little more mature and grown into his body he could suffer ankle, foot, and knee injuries that could seriously effect his career. He was the leagues best defender and was able to guard the perimeter very well for a center and someone his size, the ability to guard 1-5 effectively, it’s unreal and his reach allows him to block shots most can’t. His ability to really shoot makes him a huge problem because at his size the fade away seems to be a guaranteed bucket and unstoppable when he gets better. Chet is great all around although I don’t think he is as good as wemby but he is also able to defend, dribble, and shoot at a high level at his higher, he got incredibly lucky and was sent to a team who develops talent really well and had a good team already, even without Chet I think they would have done pretty well this year but he helped them into the second round right off the bat.

We have Alton, who knows how long he will be around for, or what his season is like and then we have a back up, but he was mostly shooting 3's last season, not really at the rim, or mid range, or lobs.

Love Dillingham to the Spurs. Dillingham can be Trae Young-lite or Tony Parker with a deadly 3-ball. Castle could slide right in and be their Derrick White 2.0 and replace a lot of what they lost when they dealt both White and DJ. However I don’t see them taking BOTH Dillingham and Castle. If they take one, they’ll take a wing or an upside swing (Salaun) with the 8th pick if they keep it. I wouldn’t touch Topic with a 20-foot ladder. I don’t care if he becomes a borderline All-Star. IMO, de doesn’t fit THIS version of the Spurs and anyone who really paid close attention to the Spurs this year can see why. The way the Spurs play now is lots of ball movement and almost everyone has the green-light to bring the ball up the floor -- Sochan, Keldon, Vassell, Branham, Champagnie, Wesley and of course Tre Jones. Only one pure point among them. One of the reasons I think they pushed the Sochan experiment is Pop didn’t want to move Sochan to the bench and sacrifice Sochan’s defense or Keldon’s scoring, since Keldon can be such a negative on that side of the ball. Ultimately, they had to do it anyway, sticking with Sochan's defense. One of the more neglected storylines in all of the NBA this past season even with the Wemby spotlight is how Pop quietly benched Keldon, their leading scorer from last year (and best player) to accommodate the Wemby/Sochan pairing. And Keldon did it mostly without complaint. Prior to Wemby’s arrival, Pop ran this offense because they didn’t have a primary on-ball creator or scorer that could get their shot consistently. But Wemby LOVES bringing the ball up the floor. It’s like their howitzer weapon when Wemby brings the ball up, makes a read or goes for a quick launch into a sidestep 3. I don’t see that trend decreasing, I see it increasing as Wemby grows even more comfortable handling the ball against NBA defenses and orchestrating. That means from a PG slot, what the Spurs ideally want is size, shooting and defensive versatility. That screams Stephon Castle who can play with or without the ball. Or in Dillingham’s case, his role would be to back up Tre Jones, similar to how he came off on Kentucky, just a solid scoring punch off the bench. In the Spurs system, Dillingham likely would be groomed into more of a Lou Williams-type -- at least to start. That benefits the Spurs and I think is advantageous vs. acquiring a Trae Young-type who is already an established on-ball creator in the Topic vein who NEEDS the ball in his hands and would have to be asked to sacrifice a lot at the outset. Reed Sheppard could also excel in the Spurs system as just being a competent ball-handler, gravity guy, with a fast trigger on the perimeter. Jeff Hornaceck-lite and Pop loves his high I.Q., coachable guys. Which leads me back to Topic. If he’s not the on-ball creator, WHAT IS HE? Topic doesn’t move off the ball well. He doesn’t spread the floor. He doesn’t play solid defense, he’s super-young and learning the hardest position in the league on a team where the head coach is notoriously hard on point guards. And Topic has injury concerns and what looks like a balky knee that could buckle any moment. You look at his latest NON-CONTACT injury and it gives you flashbacks to Greg Oden. You look up Oden’s injury and Topic’s and they look nearly identical. Maybe last week it was a sprain. 8 months from now it’s an ACL. Picking up a guy like Topic in the lottery, at least in the top-5 range where Topic is mocked, only to have him spend all that time in the G-League doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Spurs who are looking to be better than last year in the brutal West. At 8 possibly. But even then, if they're going for another PG type, I'd rather take a flyer on Ajay Mitchell or even AJ Johnson. Will they be better players than Topic eventually? Maybe, maybe not. But will they fit the Spurs system better as it continues to evolve around Victor Wembanyama? Absolutely.
