2024 Mustang Mach E GT | First Drive Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Mustang Mach E has fared well in the crossover SUV segment but seeing as how it falls a very distant second to the Tesla Model Y there is certainly room to grow. Well in 2024 Ford has worked on pricing, range, charging, and performance.to keep stride. At the (near) top of the line you'll find the GT trim and things have been simplified and improved over the 2023 model. To start, the previous performance package has taken most of its additional goodies (like brakes, wheels, and seats) and made them standard but if more power is what you're looking for you can up the torque from 600 lb-ft to 700 lb-ft with a software update for under $1,000. This means that you're top spec GT should run 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and reach over 110 mph in the quarter mile.
Unchanged is the basic interior and exterior design (though there is a new bronze appearance package that's worth a look) and unfortunately we don't find a heat pump under the hood in 2024 either. This isn't going to be a deal breaker for all EV shoppers but for those in colder climates it will likely play a key factor in final purchase decisions. This is still not likely to convert a herd of conventional Mustang owners but since Ford has loosened the reins on this performance trims there's a better chance this year than the year before.

Fun fact: I gave Ford the idea to create the Mustang 4 door hatchback back in 2017. Still no acknowledgement from Ford or Farley, yet I have a Facebook message they had replied to. As we all know this model mustang is the most controversial mustang ever built. And I believe I was the only one in the world to have said anything.

If Ford were to take the pony badge off of the front and just called it the Mach E - I think we'd be "in" - I went to Ford's configurator last night and with the options we'd choose just over $61k - that's tempting....

Ford has been building cars for a long time, but why does it feel they got the interior all wrong? The door card can’t hold a water bottle upright, the 12v port is buried underneath where you would have to move other things to get to it. I get it that they need a front box end for electronics and crumple zones, but can’t they come up with something else besides a “grill”, maybe rally looking fog lights or something. There is an opportunity there.

I am a total gear head - having rebuilt my fair share of thick-wall and over-bored 389 GTOs. It is easy to find fault in anything but as you pull Mach-E GT out of the dealer lot on the test drive with a sharp right turn and hit the accelerator all criticism vanishes and the smile on your face causes pain. It is an amazingly tight and powerful ride.
