I think it’s a treat that something like this still exists in the current market. Having a fun little manual hatch, from a quality brand at an affordable price is pretty tough to beat. Plus, you even get the cute colour accent! Thanks Mazda.

Yep, the manual gives the car, character.

Nice little thing, wish they put the manual in the nicer versions tho - even as an option!

I'm looking forward to the full review. I own a 2012 Mazda 2 5 speed manual. Still strong and a lot of fun with >200,000km completed. Just had to replace the clutch and front dampers (other than that, just standard maintenance!). My other car is a 2022 Mazda 3 Astina 6 speed manual. Again, much more fun than an auto. You actually drive the car... rather than simply steering it!

It seems the Auto has slightly shorter 1st and 2nd gear... Just FYI, Mazda has just launched in Mexico a top model with the 2.0 from the Mazda3.... that should be interesting

Yeah we are pretty happy with that little fun auto. Thank you Mazda! Nice motor in a small and fun package.

Why don't they have the 3 in manual anymore? I would even take the base model instead of paying stupid prices for second hand ones.

Imagine if Mazda put their 2.5T engine. It’d be overkill.

A logical step for Mazda would be to make a 1.5t engine which could replace their N/A 2 litre in other cars and also be used in this car for an awesome little 'warm' hatch!

Normally that'll make the engine more complex and less reliable but Mazda is the top 3 most reliable brand. @@michaelcampbell4990

Was the auto driven in sport mode? Would that have made a difference?

I always test all modes. In most cases, sport mode doesn’t make any difference for full-throttle acceleration; it only changes throttle response/pedal sensitivity.

Mazda barely changed the exterior design for the 2024 version I thought the front grille was aftermarket. 💀 (And also because I barely saw a few of them on the road).

Mazda thinks it's a A-class rival. But it's actually a suzu swift rival. You get so less car for the price. Almost i30 hatch price.

Mazda has become more premium, and when you compare them to their competitors their vehicles are more attractive, and their interiors are better quality. Not everyone has to buy the next vehicle size up to get "the best bang for their buck". There is still a need for subcompact cars. My husband and I prefer a subcompact car as the second car in our household - I use it to do after school pick up (we have a small family), we drive the car to the inner city, etc. When looking to buy a new subcompact car I actually did consider the Suzuki Swift (as well as other cars, and a few subcompact SUVs). Even though the lower trims of the Suzuki Swift are cheaper than the Mazda 2 - they are lacking safety features compared to the Mazda 2. The top trim Swift (GLX Turbo) had all the safety features, and was comparable in price to the Mazda 2. But I was unsure about turbo engines. I appreciate the quirky looks of the Suzuki Swift but I prefer the Mazda 2 looks, and the Swift's interior was inferior compared to the Mazda. I had my 2011 Mazda 2 from new (13 years). It was a mechanical gem, and fun to drive. People underestimate the Mazda 2. My husband used to drive it on the highway to get to work and it was very capable. In the end - nothing could beat the Mazda 2 (for me, at least). My husband recently gifted me the 2024 GT trim. We traded in my 2011 Mazda 2 while it still had my life left.

What are you talking about? Not at all. It's cheaper than an i20. Mazda doesn't think its an A-class rival, you do. It competes with cars like the Peugeot 208, Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20 and so on. Mazda knows what theyre doing, you clearly don't. It's also the only car left with a decent 4 cylinder engine in this segment. If you chiptune it, it goes from 90hp all the way to 125-130hp, it's tuned down that much. You absolutely get what you pay for, very good car for the money.

Can't call it a drivers car with that exaust note, huge gap between body and tyre and that shocking mess of pipes in the engine bay. We it is priced like a miniFerrari but that's were it any spirts characteristics ends.
