2024 Kona Electric Review - NEW Look, Larger Battery & More Space!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Review of the Hyundai Kona Electric SUV. It's been redesigned for 2024 and it feels a lot like an Hyundai IONIQ 5 while being a bit more affordable. Hopefully this video helps you with your decision!

Awesome review of what I consider to be a sleeper option in the EV portfolio. The Kona upgrades you two cover really well. I think this car will do well in its segment now that the Bolt is no longer an option. Thx for the video. I enjoyed watching.

The range you got is based on your driving style and also on driving history as well. Being over 400km definitely is more than a city car and WLTP is 505 on the 17" tires or 444 on the 19" tires. i've got the top spec ordered here in Australia which is called Premium there is two lower specs with entry level being the 48kWh battery. The physical buttons are the just the key functions and there is even two buttons that are programmable. Vegan leather or for those of us who grew up in the 70's & 80's also known as vinyl somewhat better though than the original. ;) Great vehicle review though, looking forward to mine which is on order but I got the lighter interior(called Shale Grey in the AU market). Odd you didn't get a space saver tire unlike the Australian models all come with a spare(space saver).

Nice video review. Like the restrained playful banter that is just the right amount. Just enough to be a bit fun and playful without going overboard and being eye-rolling cheesy. I also like that you make a point to mention the trim level you're driving and that some features in the test car will not be in the lower trim levels. I hate it when reviewers drive the top trim level and say it has this and that, without pointing out that those features are only on the upper trim level(s), misleading viewers into thinking all those nice features were standard equipment on all trims. I agree about too much open storage. Would've liked more covered, hidden storage in the center console. I guess they don't have car break-ins in S Korea? I personally am not a big fan of the exterior, but I can live with it. Can you comment on the cabin noise level while driving? Would you say that the amount of road and wind noise is low, average or high (compared to typical EVs)?

Thanks for watching and for the kind words! The cabin wind noise is very low but the road noise id say is average to normal. Overall its quiet enough. Definitely quieter than a Tesla but that's not hard to beat. Let me know if you have any more questions! - Matt

@@Worththewatt Thanks for the quick reply, Matt! Ok, so it's not super quiet, but is reasonably quiet enough. I found the 2021 Tesla Y to be a little on the noisy side (from road noise). Not super noisy, unbearably noisy, but I would like quieter. Sounds like the Kona Electric is a bit quieter, which is nice plus.

I did a test drive of a 2024 gas powered Kona. I really liked it...but I was hoping to upgrade from my 2004 Elantra GT to a hybrid or an EV. I noted that they had a new 2023 Kona EV parked next to the one that I drove. It was listed at $39K before the dealer added stuff. I couldn't fathom spending that much, especially since the 2024 version is larger & has a better battery/longer range. 3 days ago, the local dealership posted a new arrival, a 2024 Kona SEL EV, where they (presumably, by mistake) listed it with two $7500 rebates. How could I pass up such a bargain? It was not one of the 3 colors that I'd have preferred but at this incredible steal, I am happy to live with Neoteric Yellow. So, I have a brand new Kona SEL electric...out the door for less than $31,000. So far, I am loving it. There are so many features, it's going to take me a while to figure out all of the whistles & bells. Since I live in a warmer climate, I doubt that I will ever have a reason to put it into "snow mode". As an SEL, it doesn't have all of the features of the Limited but it is still quite amazing.

Love seeing the EV color that I would want (blue paint) but maybe the gray seats with green pinstripe. Heads up display is a great feature that I don't think is available on the U.S. version of the Kona Limited EV? I am thinking of getting the EV this fall instead of the ICE version (do wish I could get AWD on EV; would get on ICE Kona). For me, it depends on the final cost after U.S. Federal and my State tax credits off MSRP since I'd be leasing Kona #3 (and Hyundai #5). Besides, if I do get an EV, I want to put my junk in the frunk! Can't do that with an ICE vehicle.

No rear vents but I assume heat vents under the front seats? Air-conditioning might be a problem in the back in the summer? Good video though. Thanks

Mine has rear vents....which isn't much of an issue. I don't think that I had a rear seat passenger in my previous car more than a handful of times. The 2004 Elantra GT served me well but I'm quite amazed by my new ride, a 2024 Kona SEL Electric.

What is the name of the exterior colour of the Kona in the video? Was the overhead drone video of the same vehicle?

Just a word of warning the US model does not come with a Heat Pump, but Canadian (along with the rest of the world) does. Or the HUD. Hyundai cut whatever they could from the US model since it doesn't qualify for the tax credit. Guarantee these features will reappear when the US factory comes online in late 2025 and they do a mid cycle refresh.

"Snugs my back" is a thing! I sat in a Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid and their seats are narrower, so didn't "snug my back". More like hurt my back as bolsters hitting shoulder blades.

It's pretty good, although it could've been great. If they would've made the lowest trim with the same motor and battery as the upper trims, and increased the range a little more, that would've been quite compelling. I think Hyundai missed an opportunity to dominate the low end EV segment. With the Bolt leaving the market, there's a void there that Hyundai could've had all to themselves for a year or so until the new Bolt/Leaf/Model 2/ID2all came out. As it is, the Kona Electric is pretty good, pretty inexpensive for an EV (compared to all else out there in U.S.), but it's still a bit pricey. Especially these days when Tesla Ys are being discounted and can be had for not all that much more than one of these Kona Electrics...
