I really appreciate your reasoning to not call this a review but a first impressions video. Sadly most channels rush out a video and act like they now everything about the product already and you taking a step back and talking about the circumstances under which you conducted your testing is really something to appreciate. First video I saw of your channel but you already earned my like and sub 👍

I’m am a pro illustrator and this is the “review” I’ve been looking for. All the other tech reviewers don’t use iPads day to day for work so their reactions towards it are odd. Of course they’re miffed by the new Pros power because they don’t use it. I usually do 3000px and run all the way up to 54 max layers in procreate on my 2020 Pro. So the new The pencil as well. I’m stoked to get mine! Thanks for the first impression!

100% agree and I’m in the same situation as you, but coming from a 2018 pro. New Pro is nice but it’s hard to justify the 500$ bump to get 16gb of ram. And then when I’m comparing the air and pro 13” 8gb models the 13” air seems like a better deal than the Pro!? Am I crazy?

I always think most owners of an iPad Pro are only using max 5% of the possibilities. I'm using it for private and work and I probably use 75% if not more of what's possible with an iPad. My old 1TB 2020 iPad Pro is 90% full. Only 100gB free space so ordered the 2TB now 😂 My iPad Pro also replaced my 27" iMac long time ago and only because of astrophotography I'm thinking of buying a desktop again. The iPad Pro is very well capable of editing stacked astrophotos/fits files, but the software is not available yet for the iPad. Stacking 300-500 separate 49mb photos will never come to the iPad, but editing already stacked fits files should absolutely be possible. I would definately pay for such an app if that would mean I could 'live' iPad Pro only again 👍

Request: As one (like you) who uses the Galaxy Tab Ultra and Clip Studio Paint, I was wondering how heavy 3D models in CSP perform on the M4. It’s the only use case that would make me switch to the M4, if that massive power can be used for CSP art. It’s an area that no art reviewer has covered well, and people are using 3D models more and more in CSP. You could just try the biggest model already included in CSP, it may be the “3D classroom”. GREAT channel, btw. 😊

Well, the Air appears to be like something in between the last Air model and the last Pro model. The processing power has been more than sufficient for years now, I think it’s hard to reach the limits, except if sou work with very large canvasses. I‘m mostly a hobbyist now, too, and my old iPad Pro sadly seems to reach the end of its life soon after 7 years, so I am too thinking about how to get a good but affordable replacement. A refurbished 2021 Pro or a a new Air both seem like good choices to me. Probably a new Air because it will last longer.

Really like your take on these things. Probably because i'm buying it to draw, and you are just phenomenal at talking about those things. I think i'm keen on understanding the main benefits of squeeze and barrel features. As i'm afraid i'll turn it off due to muscle memory pressing and tilting the pen without even intending to do so. Another thing that i was wondering about is the "nano texture", as i'm expecting that to look like a "paperlike protector" would after drawing on it for 6-12 months. But that it would actually scratch after 5 minutes of use or "pressing to hard with the pen. Another thing about the nano texture, In terms of "distortion" of colors and sharpness, how is it different from a paperlike-protector? I would assume it is a massive difference as they are not intended for the same type of use, but still curious. Thanks for the content!

Add into your review your comparison to Samsung S9 and which one do you prefer? And is it powerful enough to run unused Photoshop illustrator?, I also I have forgotten the name of the program but there is a 3-D program where you draw your shapes and the program automatically generates the 3-D version of that shape. If you could find and test that program out that would be great and beneficial I think it's a product design app.

The biggest problem with early reviews is that apps aren’t optimized or even ready for the new architecture inside. I remember getting my M1 iPad Pro on launch. And because none of the apps recognized the specifics of the M1 so it all defaulted to think it’s an iPad running on an A12 chip with 3gb of RAM. It took about a month to recognise the chip, and about 6 months for the 16gb of RAM models to give access to more of that RAM. I’m gonna wait a few weeks at least for the M4. If you have multiple page files in Procreate in high res, or busy animatics above 720p, I can still reach the layer limits. And Callipeg chugs when I make longer (10seconds) 4k animation with a lot of layers.

Procreate's website mention that RAM determines the amount of layers. My iPad Pro 12.9 gen 3 (2018) 64gb model gave me 27 layers at 5100x3300 at 300dpi. The 64gb model only had 4gb of ram in it but I've used an iPad with double the ram, 8gb, and that gave me 54 layers, exactly double the amount of layers. I don't know if M1-M4 changes up that logic at all as I don't have one, but I'm guessing from the 8gb to 16gb, that would double up again giving 108 layers. Would be really interested to hear from him about this topic as I'm preparing to purchase one or the other.

I find it interesting how apple promotes how long they support their products, but then make new software and peripherals inconvenient or obsolete in a year or two. Samsung released the creator edition S pen that still worked on previous tablets, if the galaxy tab had all the same apps, the choice would be a no brainer.

I am really ready for an upgrade, understatement of the year!!! I look forward to checking out some of your other videos, I did subscribe:) you also mentioned a discount code in the video but I never saw it!?! Bigger than that it will turn into "laptop" size where we need table to draw on. Still hold on my air 3 and pencil 1....hope they update the ipad os so the app can be more desktop like app.

HI mate, looking forward to full review and PRO vs AIR comparison. As for the Pro's keyboard, dont you think that aluminium keyboard's case is going to scratch the iPad's screen? On MacBooks the screen is surrounded by this rubber gasket which prevents screen from touching the keyboard and aluminium body while closes. In iPad's case there is nothing... I guess.

id really love to see a review of that new texture coating option!!! I'm not sure if it would be better than having a paperlike on, since you dont have to deal with bubbling and stuff, but you have a nice permanent, better colour accurate textured screen. but I'm scared of getting it and realising its actually really bad or something and then not be able to put a paperlike on bc it would ruin the colours too much

So I've been into the Apple store to try this theory out, DON'T buy the nano texture option if you are looking for a different drawing experience, there is no difference (or very very little, I didn't notice anything) in the drawing experience with the Pencil Pro. Only opt for the nano-texture if you want to reduce glare on the screen, it does not change how the Pencil interacts with the display. I'd recommend going into a local Apple store if you have to to see what I mean. :)
