This XRT trim on the Palisade and Tucson are for looks only. If you want a more capable Palisade and Tucson for moderate off-roading, I suggest you wait for the next-generation models which will be similar to the Santa Fe. Also, Hyundai need to do a XRT trim for the Venue and Kona.

Its getting a bit annoying with all these badge only trims that try to give the impression of some sort of sporty or offroad capabilty only to be black badges and grill. Whooptee doo. Lol Seems the Honda Pilot is the only "reliable but sorta bland crossover from Asia" that has a badge and actual off road changes. Nissan, Hyundai, Toyota, and Kia are fakin it. Even US brands dont have much except like the Z74 on Tahoes. Otherwise: solid crossover! Always liked the look of these and they have some pretty good details and features. If I needed a 3 row family SUV I'd look at this as a major contender for sure.

Roller testing would show the intended AWD capability, but of course still dependent on clutch strength, it seems some vehicles get really good on rollers then overheat in heavy testing anyways, but it tells us it will do it's wonders on wet and snow just not for rough climbs were something like A-Trac with better clutches would do better

  • @elkofcanada5003

Pretty sure A-TRAC just aggressively clamps down on the spinning wheels which is why it does so much better (not overheating) vs clutch based AWD. Also helps A-TRAC vehicles are all either 4WD with a always on centre diff lock or mechanical locking centre diff.

It would be awesome if manufacturers can make a combined clutch and mechanical locking system. So Full auto AWD is clutch based on/off,. At the moment one selects 4H 4L, or manually engages a locker (center, rear, front), it's switches from the clutch pack to fully mechanically locked.

I was thinking wouldn't it be good if they took this chassis system ground clearance and put a minivan body and interior on it. Might be more satisfying of a vehicle that way. But as either style it still needs a more "off-roady" setting on the all-wheel drive system. And Really, performance street tires on a "SUV". 🙄

If it's advertised model designed to look like an SUV of any type then it should be able to be taken down a rough nasty dirt road. And if it is packages an SUV with all-wheel drive and cladding then yes it is marketed and they are trying to imply that it is an "off-road vehicle" and I would be extremely let down if it was not taken down roads rougher than this start of this test course under construction. It still needs to be taken down a rough nasty dirt road to test. Did you think they are trying to package this and sell it as a basic minivan?

Not ALL SUVs are built with off-road terrain in mind. Most that LOOK like they are, only have appearance packages, nothing special that adds to their off-road capability. It’s not a Ford Bronco or a Jeep Wrangler…it’s a family SUV that can handle most any place you need to take a family in a normal day.
