Sam just to be clear, I think that that Civic had the 1.5t because it was a sport touring. That's why it destroyed the Elantra. The 2.0 civic would be closer the entire race.

@@SamCarLegion I noticed the same thing, so I checked the Canadian website to see if my hunch was correct. From what I can tell, it looks like the Sport Touring uses the 1.5T in both the US and Canada. It also looks like the Sport uses the 2.0 NA in both the US and Canada. While the Sport model comes with some extra convenience features up in Canada (lucky), those features do not include a sunroof, "leather" seats and steering wheel. So it's looking like the Civic you ran was likely using a 1.5t, which would explain the rather significant performance gap between it and the other vehicles. The regular 2.0 Sport is crazy slow off the line, but starts to pack a decent punch once you hit 5,000 rpm.

I have never seen anyone drag and roll race the 2.0 Civic vs Corolla. They’re always comparing the 1.5t to the Corolla’s 2.0na. It’s like comparing apples and oranges.

The elantra actually making that a somewhat close race with the honda was more impressive to me than anything else about this video

Now this is more interesting to watch than high performance cars. As others have mentioned, the civic is definitely 1.5T since it packs so much power compared to other cars. The Corolla in the race should’ve been the 2.0L engine, not the hybrid.

The Civic is a Sport Touring with 180 HP.. Which is why the obvious results of the Honda winning.. How do you not know what you’re driving?? You’re supposed to be car guys??..

One of the things I wanted to mention but didn't- the underpinnings of even the most basic entry level cars are so good nowadays - esp when you look up the trim lines, GR Corolla, Elantra N and Civic Type R. Its a good time to be alive and enjoying cars. Curious to see how this particular Civic holds up against the Mazda3's of the world. Thanks for the invite and the chance at some grocery getting racing. Real question...did you make it on time for your appointment? 😁

The 1.5L engine uses 2 exhaust pipes/tips while the 2.0L N/A engine only has a single exhaust pipe/tip coming from the rear. The 10th gen civics also does the same thing mainly for the typical base models.

Before the race even starts. I knew the Toyota Corolla will be the slowest and that the Honda Civic will be the fastest.

That isn’t fair . You have to get Corolla 2.0

I think the N/A civic would be a much better comparison for those cars. So either next do turbo Elantra vs that civic or both should be the base NA engines.

Yeah that Corolla Hybrid just has the 1.8L old skool. My 2022 SE has the new 2.0L that has a physical 1st gear then goes into CVT mode. It's pretty peppy.

It has 1.8 but they added extra module in 2024 so its much faster 0-60 should be around 8 seconds on par with 2.0

Try kia forte gt (DCT) vs civic Si vs a higher spec corolla or even the base model integra. Love the more "realistic" consumer drag race rather than the more expensive vehicles.

😂😂😂 everyone knows Toyotas are slow AF… the 2024 Nissan Sentra SR 150hp.. yes its still a CVT but it probably would have put up a better fight than the Carolla

@@ArExsTee The 2.0 is quite a bit quicker than the 1.8. It definitely would have been closer. The 2.0 is 1.2 seconds quicker quarter and almost 2 seconds quicker 0-60. The Elantra is 8.1 seconds 0-60 and The Corolla is 7.9. I have had both and the Corolla is quicker, especially the SE.

Fuck no the Corolla would walk that sentra SR. corollas 2.0 is 169HP 151 TQ. You can hit 0-60 in under 7 secs with the 6 spd manual.

Stock car races are a lot better than the tuned car races even if the stock cars are kind of slow cars cuz most people aren’t tuning their cars. Plus you know exactly what you’re getting if you purchase any of the stock vehicles.

Can't compare a NA engine to a hybrid. It's not a comparable comparison.

Throw a 2019 Yaris hatchback in there , they come with a 6 speed sport transmission, not only that but the sedan comes w a manual transmission. I think the manual might be able to beat the civic. Producing “only” 108 HP and Weighing at 2,400 pnds it’s also I think a much more fun experience when it comes to driving. And cvts’ have been called out plenty in this video 😂 great work you guys ! 💯

interesting (type) of race. i'm curious...for the vehicle where the gear must manually shifted to left - for "Sport Mode". it wasn't clear, did they ever shift any of the gears in Sport Mode. yes CVTs do shift to set gear points in Sport Mode. the vehicles seems quite slow maybe bc the drivers didn't operate them right. idk

That’s the Elantra N, with the 2.0L Turbo with supporting mods needed for a turbo.

The Elantra equipped with 1.6t would be an even battle against the civic. I have spanked si civics with Hyundai 1.6t

The rear electric motor in the Corolla cuts off around 70kph, that’s why it’s good off the line but not on the roll. So at highway speeds it’s just a fwd and not awd.

Sam, I respect your opinion and decision to make this comparison. But just don't do what everyone else has done. I got maybe an honest mistake, bringing the Civic sport touring with the turbo engine. My point is that when comparing cars that are in the same segment, try to compare similar cars, for example, the civic sport, hyundai SEL, and the corolla SE. All these cars are 2.0 litters natural aspirated with cvt transmissions. Later, if you want, bring hybrid samples of these 3 manufacturers you can do it also. That way, you are giving your viewers a way to compare these cars. Thank you, and I hope you can do this comparison again.

Go to Throttle House and watch their race between a 11th gen Civic 1.5t, and Mazda 3 NA. Corolla was an XSE, and still lost.

The Elantra isn't that bad since it went up against the 1.5T Civic and did decently.

I have a Ryobi lawnmower and I sweat the corolla sounds the same. The civic sounds the best and most aggressive.

Ughhh you don’t get it. The corrolla is hybrid is half electric and it has 1.8 engine and it can beat the Elantra until the speed is 40mph because the hybrid can go up to 40mph max. Thats why.

Toyota makes slow ass cars. The 90s were the last time they were talked about. The new Supra is great but it’s a bmw. This is why they revamped their entire brand as nobody wanted their crap anymore. Easy to make a reliable slow car the hard part is keeping reliability and making a faster car that can be modified way above its already stout stock number for a decent price that’s what sells cars. Helps if it looks good to.

@@whereswaldo9089 yeah and even then again compared to the competition in the performance realm Lexus brings nothing. LFA took too long to produce, low on power, and outdated. Granted sounded amazing also limited number made. Sure they have a 5.0 but it’s not as fast as a mustang. They have the inline 6 in the most 300 series yet can’t beat again anyone with an i6 who makes fast cars in their class aka BMW. Luxury is better today sure. And yes you are right they turned it around on design which I’ll admit everything they have been making is a step up lately to include Toyota but that’s because they are failing and are restructuring leadership not wanting to fail stuck behind China in the ev game as are most when everyone is pushing ev today and they own the mineral supply and don’t have to obey any sort of emissions laws upon producing because everyone else gets a piece they look the other way. Hence the potential ww3 over the South China Sea.
