Is it illegal or against the law for a manual to be paired with AWD? So few vehicles with those 2 elements in them. I don't get it. That being said, you Sir should be commended for this deep dive on this amazing MANUAL Civic!!!! Talk about leaving no stones uncovered AND shedding light to so many other things and features about this car that i didn'teven know i needed to know. Lightly covering some features and blah blah opinions is so common with other car reviewers. The time you take and the opinions and thoughts you share are refreshing and uncommon in segments like these. Great segment and thorough delivery of so much about this vehicle. Thankyou. Question, I do a lot of camping and was wondering if this trim can be lifted a few inches for slightly more ground clearance on unpaved state park roads. Just Subscribed. Thanks again

I really appreciate your comment. Thank you for the kind words. You would think AWD and a manual is illegal. They are rare to come across. I would imagine someone probably makes a lifted suspension for the Civic. I don't know for sure though. The Civic has a huge aftermarket.

FWD is more fuel efficient than AWD, offers less maintenance (because there are fewer parts than AWD), you can replace the front tires and there is less of an imperative on replacing the rear tires as well (in AWD they want you to replace all the tires at once), if you live in an area with steep hills, the FWD car will be more effective on slippery slopes because the weight of the motor is over the wheels that drive it, resulting in improved downforce and traction. AWD once had a significant advantage over FWD. But automakers and tire manufacturers have gotten pretty good at maximizing performance, efficiency and foul-weather capability with just the front tires putting the power down. Honda made the right choice.

I just worry about ruts in unpaved gravel camping roads I frequently drive on. And ofcourse the pothole riddled roads and streets where I live too. Any thoughts on gaining a few more inches of ground clearance on this vehicle?

The biggest reason would actually be fuel economy standards. AWD being less fuel efficient, it's harder for car makers to meet Cafe fuel economy numbers with AWD and a manual, whereas they can fudge behavior with an automatic to get to those needed fuel mileage numbers. It's also why you can get the Bronco with a manual, because that car, as a light truck class, doesn't affect Ford's overall Cafe numbers and thus can be as fuel inefficient as you want.

I picked up a 6 speed sport hatch with a spoiler in mid August and absolutely love the car! Coming from a 5 speed manual, having the 6th gear on the highway is really nice. Although I wanted to carry on my dad’s Integra legacy, I couldn’t justify paying almost $40k after taxes for a car as a new grad. I intentionally sought out the sport because I plan on keeping the car for 20 years, so the minimal technology plus the NA 2.0 really appealed to me. My biggest gripes with the car are the rear visibility as well as the gas mileage. My 04 Civic got me 30 mpg in the city with 330 miles per tank, while this car gives me around 23 mpg city with around 235 miles per tank. Besides these ‘complaints,’ I couldn’t see myself driving anything else and recommended the car to anyone!

You said 258 horsepower instead of 158 horsepower. 😊 This has the same suspension and wheel/tire size as the Sport Touring Hatchback, but the Si suspension is more modified. The Manual version center console is configured differently with a smaller storage bin and cupholders in a different position. There's an aftermarket strut kit for the hood, but you don't need to replace the rod when those would wear out, and you need something to hold the hood up.

Great review! Glad you did the NA 2.0 with stick, seriously considering it for my next vehicle. Great color too! 👍

I have a 2023 (same car).. in white... freakin love it.. Looks great and driving is wonderful... You take it on back roads and twisties and it REALLY shines.. but it ALSO does great on the highway passing and just driving at speed.. really can't ask for more at this price point... and you kind of undersold the space... flip those back seats down and I have more room than my old small truck!! Great video man!

Great review, thanks for addressing the rev hang. One thing that would have been nice to know if the width of the hatch opening.

Because Honda engines are known to be tuner friendly there is support for the base 2.0 engine. You can flash the ECU to have VTEC come in at 5300 RPM and make bigger power until redline. It’s really nice for the manual trans. In the CVT it doesn’t really matter as much because it can continuously vary the gear to stay in VTEC.

Que, add the Kicker Key 200 to your stock stereo and WOW!! It's not expensive.

Mannnn for what all you have showed me here I will definitely get this over the WRX based on price point! This looks better and has more space than the WRX to me. Boost Blue is my favorite color followed by the Black then White what RCF showed on his channel

Coming from a 1LE you'd hate this lol. This engine is like a 90's honda engine absolutely lifeless. A base WRX can be had at $28k makes 130 whp more then civic stock. $5k in mods you'll make about 300whp more then the civic. Will the Honda last longer duh but you guys trade cars so fast reliability isn't a factor. If you want a slow car why not save on payments get old car? A 8th gen Si is infinitely better then this and current Si yes driven all three. But oh well

The Black optional exterior emblems should come standard on the Civic Sport and HR-V Sport. For $300 you can get an aftermarket tune or a unit that improves throttle response. I can't mention stuff because YT warms me about stuff like deceptive posting and spam like FB does. I got a whole list of stuff I would add to this or the HR-V Sport. This is beautiful in this color, or Sonic Grey Pearl. There are aftermarket LED replacement bulbs for the rear hatch, license plate, reverse and rear signal lights. It's well equipped for the price, for the quality and stuff you have compared to other make cars. But, it would be nice to have the foglights and the external mirror turn signal indicator lights. The JDM style Honda H Mark emblems like the Type R would look great in the front, rear and some the horn button, and in Red, sometimes blue or black.

Nice review - I just sold my 2016 Kia Sorento with 212,000 on the clock. I was looking at the Mazda CX30, and the Mazda 3, until yesterday when I drove the ‘24 Civic Sport, 6 Speed Manual… that’s the one chose, in Lunar Gray. Picking it up tomorrow. After my initial conversations with the salesperson, the finance manager hit me up for $37k out the door - lol!!! After about 20 minutes of polite, “no thank you(s) & “hey if I’m not your customer for this car, I can live with that”, we ended up at just under $30k out the door.

When I was a young lad I owned a used 1989 Honda Civic DX hatchback that was no more than 110bhp and only weighed 2100lbs. 5-speed MT that I pushed to 130mph (no word of a lie) at one time due to it's feather lite weight. Car was super low to the ground and cornered really well for a POS! lol😂

Ironically i have a Shelby 350R, same a Que did, and wound up with the civic sport hatch 2.0 as a daily. I got the car without test driving as I just wanted a very basic daily. Que is exactly right the steering feel of this car, braking and handling was such as unexpected surprise. Not in any way comparing it to the Shelby but I was super surprised how well it performed for 25K I really enjoy driving it and the Shelby on the weekends.

I test drove both the Civic Sport Touring and SI. The SI is the bomb, the short shifter with the LSD front wheel drive works really well, but I hear the 1.5l engine has head gasket issues. I think the 2.0l normally aspirated base engine is the way go. There are a lot of good options if you want to drive a stick but none offer everything. I'd prefer something with more than 200 horsepower. Years ago Nissan built an SE-R, a Japanese version of the BMW 2002 or 3-series. It was an awesome little car with a stick and 140 hp 2.0l engine. Nissan advertised the SE-R as the every man's sports car. The Honda SI reminds me of the old SE-R.

I'd go with the motor that best fits your needs 👍🏻 I beat the heck out of my 2019 Civic Si 1.5T for 4 years without a single issue. All while getting 40+ mpg on regular hwy drives. Now I'm on my second 1.5T in the Integra and haven't had any issues as well. I personally think it's a fantastic little motor for daily driving that punches above it's weight class. To put things into perspective, the 1.5T is noticably smaller than the 2.0 non-turbo.. But produces significantly more horsepower and tq throughout the entire rev band + the insane gas mileage 👍🏻

@@markm391 You can get performance and fun and last a long time if you do proper maintenance and care. The Car Car Nut recently came out with a video how to make your turbo engine car last longer. Great video. If you follow those steps, the turbo and engine life will probably be optimized.

That was one of the best reviews of that car that I have seen! You touched on everything from the drive train, ride quality, interior, etc! You should be a honda rep….I am 67 years old who loves Hondas but has not driven a manuel in over 30 years but you make me want to go out buy this car today !😂. I just subscribed….great job !

That's definitely the best new Civic to get. It has the most reliable engine. And thank goodness it's a manual. The transmission will last the life of the car. If it was a CVT, I'd find it questionable. Great all around car.

If you put the si on a dyno you’ll find out that Honda fibbed because on that dyno you’ll see 225 hp and that’s the true hp of the si , back in the day GM did the same thing for insurance purposes .

@@Tomoose there is an ECU setting that controls the amount of rev hang electronically. The manufacturers program in a lot of rev hang on most small displacement engines in manual transmission cars, so that more of the fuel is burned off between shifts, thus reducing emissions somewhat. The tuner applications change that electronically by changing the ECU settings for various things, including the psi of turbo boost, throttle settings, and the amount of rev hang. It's easy to find info about them on line. Start by googling Hondata tuner.

@@TomooseRev hang means the revs of the engine stay elevated for a few seconds after you push the clutch in. They don't start dropping right away. Most people who complain about rev hang say that it makes it harder to do smooth upshifts. Some, but fewer, say the rev hang can make it harder to do rev matched downshifts. It can also sound terrible, or at least unpleasant. On modern engines, it is usually put in on purpose, so that the engine is spinning faster and burning the fuel more completely while the clutch is depressed. This improves emissions readings. Since it is just an ECU trick, a tuner program can reprogram the ECU to remove, or at least significantly reduce the rev hang. Tuning your car could void the warranty, though I'm not sure that just removing the rev hang would be enough to void it. Increasing psi of turbo boost, on the other hand, probably would, at least if the corporation found out about it. The degree of rev hang, and when it is worst, varies from car to car.

What they should have done is put the 200(222) HP Si engine in the Touring Sedan and Sport Touring Hatchback and put the detuned 2.0L turbo from the previous Accord Sport in the Si, and also put it in a performance version of the new HR-V Sport with all the bells and whistles from the Civic Sport Touring Hatchback, a manual transmission and performance suspension and exhaust.

The GR Corolla is great if you don't mind the smaller interior. All the added pieces, like the suspension is so meticulous in detail, but they are having problems with the engine for those that race it and really push it. It may not be so much if you just enjoy the performance on the street, but the 3 cylinder turbo can only handle so much. Like I mentioned in another comment, The Care Care Nut has a great recent video on how to make your turbocharged engine car last longer. But they should have just put a modified 4 cylinder, like a 2.0L in there.

I agree, it’s pretty large. I just purchased the Civic hatchback LX. I replaced my well loved 97 civic hatchback DX and am having to get used to the size. The front seems long…I have to go slow and gage it so I don’t scrape the lower front when parallel parking. I’ve only had it a couple weeks so imagine I’ll get used to it. Ugh, I already went up a steep driveway and got a one inch scrape on the bottom (luckily it’s on the bottom but I was bummed- haven’t had a new car in a while!). I like hatchbacks for the storage, but also wanted something sporty.

Fantastic honest and down-to-earth review! Worst thing about this car? Nearly impossible to find one at any nearby dealerships. My local dealership just got one in after having none for months, but it is Lunar Silver. I'm going to test drive it tomorrow, but would really prefer the Boost Blue Pearl or Sonic Gray Pearl. I guess beggars can't be choosers, right? Oh, and I asked over the phone if they have any markup over MSRP and they said they can discuss this in person.
