Congratulations on a great bow hunt! Your comments & insight during the hunt are priceless! I feel like other channels miss those details which as a bow hunter I really love to hear. Stay true to those values & the bow my friend. Great video 💯 Plan on bow hunting Hawaii in the near future!

It is for sure. However, I do have to admit I kind of hated it in our crowded local public hunts. I didn't have any fun continually getting close, waiting hours on their beds, only to almost routinely have another hunter be upwind eventually and blow um all out everyday haha. It was pretty bad at one point. 600 hunters in 30,000 acres a day is literally the statistic back then. Some other areas I used to hunt would be on the order of 200+ hunters a day in 3,000 acres. Was crazy so I eventually just hung it up.

Nice breakdown Ryan! Sad to see that they are eradicating so heavily. I spent a month over there a few years back and would see officials going out at night to eradicate.

DLNR website and regs for the state public hunts. Pulama Game Management on Lanai also has lots of axis deer hunting opportunities on the privately held hunting areas. There is also a year-round archery permit in areas closer the roads and buildings maybe less acceptable to have gun hunts in.

I always hunt down low. Right on the Kiawe line. Catch them coming in the trees for the day. Orr coming out in evening.

mechanicals ftw. great for when things don't go to plan. good job ryan. they definitely got the 4 weeks archery season right spreading everyone out. its a shame they can't do it for sheep and bring back ewe first before rams to bring down ewe numbers and improve ram age class.

"Mechanicals ftw" 💯. There was a time I wouldn't be caught dead with one ... but times change and so has the technology and build for sure. Some folks told me they "don't like the 4 weeks spread." Oh well ... maybe they complained that it was too crowded before 😂. Would be cool if management structure could change as you suggest. However, old habits die hard in Hawaii ... maybe never. "It's too crowded" spread um out, "I don't like it, not enough pressure to move them around for me." "No more big rams." Ok, let's close it down some and maybe make limited tag holders and control some ewes ... "No, everyone gets a tag same time and killing ewes is eradication." Brah ... Hawaii is hard, some things (like our illogical and emotional community, cannot help). ...And we have a government, in an interest and weak culture to try to please everyone even amongst illogical requests, figures out the best way to go more illogical and please no one. 😂

The Island of Lanai is like 98% privately-owned. However, the State leases about 30,000 acres of it (where this hunt is held) and is it open to the public to apply for annually. It is, by the data, likely the most popular or participated public hunt in the State.
