2024 GMC Yukon Denali review // This or Lincoln Navigator?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 GMC Yukon Denali full-size body-on-frame luxury SUV? The 2024 GMC Yukon has three different powertrain options, we are driving the Denali Ultimate model with the 6.2L V8 matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission, 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, standard 4WD.
Other available powertrains for the 2024 GMC Yukon include, a 3L Duramax Turbo Diesel with 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque and a 5.3L V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. 2WD and 4WD options are available.
The 2024 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate comes standard with adaptive air suspension which can raise the vehicle by up to 2 inches for extra ground clearance at low speeds (4WD only) It can also be lowered by 2 inches making it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. Other features standard on the Ultimate include, magnetic ride control, electronic limited slip differential and a 2-speed transfer case.
The 2024 GMC Yukon comes standard with a 10.2” touchscreen with google built-in, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 12” driver display, 6-speaker audio system, 10-way power driver seat, 8-way power passenger seat, 2-way power lumbar support, black cloth upholstery, a manual liftgate and GMC Pro Safety.
The 2024 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate has a beautiful leather tan interior with 16-way power front seats with a massage feature. There is plenty of storage and legroom in this 7-8 passenger body-on-frame SUV but it gets up there in price.
Here’s the 2024 GMC Yukon pricing for Canada, SLE 5.3L/Diesel $84,030 CAD/$86,025 CAD,
SLT 5.3L/Diesel $92,730 CAD/$94,725 CAD, AT4 5.3L/6.2L $97,230 CAD/$100,384 CAD, Denali 6.2L/Diesel $107,596 CAD, Denali Ultimate 6.2L/Diesel $136,876 CAD.
In the US, SLE 5.3L/Diesel $63,195 USD/$64,190 USD, SLT 5.3L/Diesel $69,895 USD/$70,890 USD, AT4 5.3L/6.2L $73,500 USD/$76,120 USD, Denali 6.2L/Diesel, $81,800 USD/$80,300 USD, Denali Ultimate 6.2L/Diesel $100,750 USD/$99,695 USD.
2024 GMC Yukon fuel economy is not great, the 6.2L V8 gets 16.6L/100 km, 14 MPG city and 13L/100 km, 18 MPG highway. The diesel is a better option, 11.7L/100 km, 20 MPG city and 9L/100 km, 26 MPG highway. It can tow up to 8,000 pounds.

My wife and I just purchased a 2024 GMC Denali Ultimate Yukon, absolutely love the interior and the Vader chrome! I am not trying to justify this pricing on the truck but I feel as most of rhese suv with loaded options are in the high $80k- $90k if I am spending that I want to go all in on the Ultimate! Love the truck and a big GMC fan.

I have the Yukon Denali Ultimate and really don't have an issue with the shifter. Also, when slide the console back, you can push the leather top forward, so you still have the armrest for the front passengers. Agree that I love all the buttons, that is why I went with the Yukon Denali Ultimate over the Escalade. Also agree that I love how the screen is integrated into the dash board, unlike a lot of manufactures that are just adding an "ipad" to the dash.

We bought a 23 Yukon Denali with the 6.2L to replace a 16 Denali and I love it. The air ride suspension makes it float and has an amazing ride quality. Love the heads up display, customizable instrument cluster, the seats are very comfortable, and I love the infotainment system. The only drawback is acceleration with the way the transmission is geared. I know its a small thing but I love the electric running boards. The way they are tucked in while underway but then pop out to aid in getting in and out of the vehicle.

Any issues with the 6.2 yet? All GM forums have nothing but horror stories about the motors going out with very low mileage. I have a 2015 Yukon Denali XL. Motor was rebuilt at 150,000 miles due to the cylinder deactivation garbage. Currently have just over 189,000 miles on it. Reliability issues and the absolute insane cost is keeping me in mine ..lol… Enjoy your ride and be blessed.

@@emikomina there’s a reason I bought the 7 year 72,000 bumper to bumper extended warranty. Not my first rodeo with GMC. But if you look at the full-size SUV category they are all plagued by issues and/or you will spend well north of $100k for one. GMC Yukon seemed to be the best value for the money in our opinion. The High Country Tahoe was not as smooth or interior wasn’t as nice as the Denali.

@@mdcollins3806 only have 4500 miles on it but so far knock on wood no issues. My friend’s Escalade blew up with less than 12k miles on it. Our old 16 Denali with the 6.2L had AFM lifter failure at 54,000 miles. That was a $6,300 top end motor rebuild and full AFM delete. Considering it’s the same components but now across all 8 cylinders I feel it’s only a matter of when not if when this motor goes. Hoping it’s within warranty period or under the 7 year extended warranty I bought. My friend’s Escalade they gave her a 10 year warranty since it was a catastrophic failure. 😳🤦🏻‍♂️

Interior is certainly nice enough, it’s not class leading but you’re certainly not hard done by and it has good functionality with perhaps a question mark over the gear selector. Air suspension is a very nice to have provided it doesn’t fail and the range of engine options is stand out..

Get the 6.2L and remove the troublesome DOD. Add ported heads, cam and a blower. Makes good power in stock form, crazy power with supercharger. New screens are much better. Push button trans is horrible. A small shifter handle on console is perfect. The 2025 Tahoe/Yukon gets a small column mounted shifter. I love the interior in the Lincoln Nav. You can make more power with the Nav’s twin turbo 6 by adding a tune. The Yukon is a great SUV! 👍

GM does love their cheap hard plastic. I was a GM/Chevy guy for decades and I'll never buy another one. And those buttons for the transmission are like an after thought. As if they got done designing the interior and someone asked where does the shifter go - and someone just figured ah, throw in some cheap buttons, that'll be good enough.

Hi Andrea and Zack, I am in the market for either the Yukon Ultimate or the Escalade Sports Platinum as I have 2 big golden retrievers. My dilemma is whether to get the gas or diesel engine. Zack has said he'd get the diesel for the better mileage which I think is great. Will it be good for me as I live in Prince George, BC. Most of the driving I do is Monday to Friday home to work less than 15km. Weekend drives will be to the grocery store and Costco which will also be less than 15km one way. Will probably make 2 trips in the summer long distance. One to Vancouver for sure and one to Alberta. Is my driving style too short distance for the diesel? Am I asking for trouble in the long run? Should I stick with the gas 6.2? Do you feel that passing power on the freeway is sufficient in the diesel? The difference in price between the diesel and gas when purchased new is negligible. What should I do? Thanks, Walter

Great review pretty much bang on when I drove the Denali Ultimate as a rental. Zach I would like to commend you this has to be the first review where you haven't said "The Bank of Toyota" That's probably because the Toyota Sequoia in the space isn't very popular at all and its ugly as heck. These full size GM SUV's are selling used almost for what they were bought for day one. Several Vancouver dealers are selling 23 Denali Ultimate's used for over $100,000CAN. For those people that actually listen to what Consumer Reports has to say when it comes to reliability I would encourage you to do some internet research on how Consumer Reports has been compromised and is completely without integrity. The 25 Yukon Denali will be out in Q4 of 24 with order banks opening this summer and deliveries in Q1 of 25. Arlington Assembly Plant in TX is retooling for the new 25 Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade in the summer/fall 24.

The only issues with GM/Chevy and across all there truck lineup, is the HVAC system. Had a 21 version of this vehicle and just outside of the warranty and the AC unit had to be replaced...$2000 bill. As soon as my wife pulled in, they knew exactly what was wrong and how much. They are well aware of this problem, and it's not just GM either. Where I work, we have 40-50 same generation Chevy trucks, and everyone has the same issue, including the ones that came online January 2024 already. Whatever GM did to this generation model is not the same a previous generation. We still have 40+ pre covid generation trucks and they are all fine, or better, and even older trucks are much better. I have owned few Denalis from the previous generation 07 and newer, and never had an issue with any of them...I won't be back till they fix this issue, or but the Extended warranty of your a high mileage user like we are. It will pay for itself. Other than that great trucks. Oh and first the first time this 21 engine blew and was going again with just under 100k, so we ditched it. This could be a one off on the 6.2, as I am sure it's the same motor since 07, and we have put big miles on all previous 6.2, and zero issues... My wife puts about 70-80k a year on them. 5 kids, 4 play traveling hockey, and 1 horse rider, so our XLs got used well, or lived in well.

$100K and they can't get rid of the phone holder in the arm rest that doesn't charge your phone. That little fix has to wait until 2025. I was looking at a 2024 Tahoe, $85K and that armrest thing is a joke along with the way you shift to park, reverse and neutral. I can't wait until the gear shift is back to where it belongs. Also looking forward to the newer diesel.

Aren't they ditching the push/pull button in 2025? As major outlets are showing the interior with the EV steering wheel, with an even bigger screen, and an electronic stalk for the transmission.

Honestly, I think the reliability issue is blown out of proportion. We live in the 2020s, major brand car makers are not putting out crappy vehicles. A less reliable brand today would’ve been the most reliable a couple decades ago. It’s just probability with any brand, you might get unlucky with any car…

I guess I’m in the minority in that I find it gaudy like a plastic Christmas ornament from Big Lots. I’m sure a whole bus stop full of kids could hide in front of that grill. If you need to tow in comfort, it looks like this is the vehicle. It’s excessively excessive to me.

I notice no reviewer ever recommends the Wagoneer in these reviews. Is it that bad? As someone who used to work at a Jeep dealer, I can attest that they are absolutely horrible in reliability. But to recommend an ancient Armada and not the Wagoneer in a top 4... That's a sign of how bad it must be.

One thing I noticed about Consumer Reports is all Chevy, GMC, Ford, Jeep, German Cars are in their worst list. However, Toyota, Lexus and Subaru are always at the very top of all their lists. I have nothing against Toyota, Lexus and Subaru as they are great vehicles. My point is, Consumer Report should be more honest and unbiased in their reports. Give credit to those who deserves credit. This is exactly one reason why I never used Consumer Reports in my research for new vehicles. JD Power, Iseecars, Road and Track, Edmunds, Car and Driver are more reliable platforms for new car research.

J D Power Reliability survey has Lexus and Toyota ranked one and two, about 1.4 issues per car. But Buick and Chevy ranked three and four, about 1.6 issues per car. But to your point only other domestic in the top ten is Dodge. The average for all cars is 1.9 reliability issues.

Toyota, Lexus, Subaru and even Mazda deserve their place near the top of the rankings. Nothing biased about it imo. Even Mini is up there surprisingly. Of the domestic brands Chevy and Buick have improved their reliability in recent years. And to finish, German cars have always had terrible reliability due to their overengineering and complexity.
