2024 Ford F-150 King Ranch vs. 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten | Luxury Truck Comparison Test

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

These days, full-size trucks aren’t just built for towing and hauling. More and more commonly, they’re also luxury items, with more luxurious trim levels constantly cropping up. Enter the 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten, the brand’s most high-po truck yet. With the Tungsten, Ram is coming directly after other high-dollar trucks like the Ford F-150 King Ranch. Both trucks were recently updated - and the Ram’s Tungsten trim freshly introduced - and Edmunds’ Brian Wong puts them head-to-head in this comparison test video.

Both of these refreshed full-size pickups were impressive, but in different ways. The Ram's interior and performance stood out, while the Ford's utility and smart cargo/bed solutions made it a true workhorse. It's rare that we end up with a comparison that's so neck-and-neck, but each truck has distinct strengths. So which camp do you fall into, team Ford or team Ram? Let us know in the comments below!

As a Ram owner, your points on the camera being squeezed to the top and android auto only using the top half are 2 of my gripes. The ride quality with the 4 corner air suspension was the real selling point for me. No other full size truck comes close. As for the lack of the Hemi, Id prefer the V8 over a more complicated 6-cylinder with turbos. Look at the reliability of the Fords when they first came out. 75K people having their engines replaced and turbos replaced. When you buying a vehicle that costs as much as a small house from the 2000's, I don't want one that needs more money in repairs.

The dealership said to install a catch can to alleviate the issues, and his response was, why doesn't it come with one? Ford knows that the PCV system vapors are the cause of the issue, but due to EPA regulations (which is also driving the switch to turbo vehicles) won't allow them to install them from the factory.

The upper box still exists on lower trim trucks, but not even an option on Longhorn or Tungsten. A no-cost "Passenger Infotainment Screen Delete" option should be available to buyers. ARGHH!!!

All I got from this is: if you need a pickup to do pickup things, buy the Ford. Bigger bed, higher payload, higher towing weight, on board power supply, etc.... The difference in price more than makes up for what the Ford may lack in luxury appointments that aren't really all that necessary/needed in a truck. Kinda like how you glossed over the 7kw onboard power that can power a worksite or an entire house in emergency situations during storms, power losses, etc... That alone, places it way above the Ram. Trucks work, that's what they are made for. The Ram is an overpriced luxury car wannabe that can sometimes do truck stuff.

The lie-flat seat is very gimmicky; because your legs and knees still sit bent to the floor, it is never going to be as good as a bed and only marginally better then a standard seat reclined back. I have slept in it a couple times when camping in a storm, and I find I can sleep just as well with it fully flat as I can slightly reclined (with neither being as comfortable as a camping cot).

They don't require it but I would not run the cheap crap in a high powered twin turbo motor, unless your out in bfe and its all that's available. The ford also recommends it for the power and while towing, Chevrolet 6.2 also requires 91 for the best power. It's not a huge difference for cost, most other expensive suv or sedans often require it of the same price. At what most trucks cost usually 60-75k msrp most can afford the small price difference, but in reality I don't understand how so many can afford these expensive trucks besides a business.

Handling between these two close? You weren’t pushing hard enough. F150 front end feels too soft, and the rear too stiff to the point that it jitters and jumps out. Makes the front end always feel like it’s folding the tires under, just an unbalanced chassis in general. Ford also has some snafus on interior, starting with turn signal indicators in gauge cluster, they’re hard to see. Ram is the better driving truck by far. That said, with no physical oil dip stick on new Ram engine that’s a big red flag. Relying on a sensor. Sensors and electronics in general have a much higher failure rate than physical components.

Nobody that has ever owned a Chrysler product or a Ram truck in their right mind would ever make the choice again. Talk to any independent mechanic (or even one at a Chrysler dealership) - they'll tell you to stay away. Truck for truck I’d take the ram for every day driving and the Ford if I needed more payload and towing. Reliability wise Ram has the worst dependability and Ford has the most recalls overall in the last year. Both are overpriced by a lot.

I am losing my flavor for the fact they eliminated the V-8. A truck works hard or harder. V-6 Turbo is a crime, in my book. I would never buy a used trucks with these blocks. Does this mean the tune is a bigger endorsement even if they blow a bearing or the turbo in 60k miles? Longevity and reliability would be a massive endorsement!
