2024 F-One Strike V4 Wing Vs. Swing V4 | Which One is Right for You?

Спорт

Tucker and Mr. Jeff from MACkite discussed the differences between the F-One Strike V4 Wing and the F-One Swing V4 Wing for 2024. They noted that the Strike V4 has improved in high wind performance, making it ideal for riders who prefer speed and higher wind ranges, maintaining good upwind capability and stability when overpowered. On the other hand, the Swing V4 offers better low-end power, making it easier to lift and more suitable for lighter winds. The Swing is also better for wave riding due to its stability and ability to flag out effectively.
Additionally, they highlighted changes in the handles of the wings. The new models feature replaceable handles with options for soft, semi-rigid, and hard handles, allowing customization based on the rider's preference and conditions. The hard handles provide a more ergonomic grip, which is beneficial in high-power riding scenarios. Overall, both wings have their unique advantages, catering to different styles and preferences in wind conditions and riding style.

Very happy with the material f-one has been using. My v3 strike canopy is still performing excellent after 900 hours of ride time! The new swing has superior flagging stability for wave riding. The new f-one wings seem very in tune with the foil. Wing to foil connection is superb.

I'm still on v2 strikes, but quite bummed out about how quickly they bag out and lose their low end grunt to get up on foil. Did you ride the v2's as well and noticed a significant upgrade on this front?

Yes the first 2 versions of strike get bagged out easily if they are ridden overpowered or get left in the sun.

Hi Tucker, thanks for Your great review. I am a heavier Rider (95 kg) from Europe. I tested the Strike V4 5.0. Great wing in high winds! But I think you are right, it's designed for lighter riders. Is the Swing better suited?Which alternative would you recommend.

Feel free to call us and discuss your needs for the best recommendation. The Swing will have more lift and pull on the low end but max out more quickly so depending on your riding style and affinity for powered riding it may or may not be the right choice. Personally, I still prefer the Strike but I just fly it a little larger to ensure I have good power for maximizing it's performance. -Tucker

Tucker, thank you for your quick response! I agree. I will think about Strike 4.5 V4 for higher winds. As heavier rider I like to ride overpowert and I think the Strike v4 has a huge range in overpowert conditions, not in the low end ;-)

So, to replace a Strike v2, 5,5mts, for easy pumping, lifting and light wind, the swing v4 5,5 should be a great choise, right? Thanks for the video.

You did'nt talk much about the Swing V4 vs V3. How do they stack up in the low end if you take the 5.5m2 for instance as far as handling take off , pumping, power, what mini knots to ride it... Thanks for the video

Hi Tucker, how would you compare Strike V4 to Flux /grunt and speed/ Thanks !

SImilar. Flux has a little more top end speed and upwind ability. Strike is a bit lighter and more surfy. -Tucker

Recently got a 6M strike v2 Although i love how light it is compared with my previous north nova, my very first impression was disappointment with the performance of the soft handles. In my opinion there is only one grip position, at the front of the handle, because there is so much shifting (forward/backward) in any other position. The only way i see a soft handle making sense is if they have multiple (4-6) smaller handles. I'm sure I'll get use to it as is, but cant believe how f-one is dragging their feet on integrating the hard handle option. Im even thinking of fabricating my own add on hard handle for my 6.0.

Tucker, you mentioned being a heavy rider, using wing to the max of the wind range.... Im 225lb I use my 8m CWC V2 until 15-18kts then 6m CWC V2 until 20-22kt, then I have a 2022 mantis 5m for stronger. I'm not wave riding yet! But very soon. I'm looking to buy a new wing to replace the 5m mantis. 5m strike V4??? Other suggestions?

Thank you for review. A bit surprise on comparing just wind wise of those two wings. What about the wave type of riding, supposedly Swing should be more stable here etc. As of only conclusion now is that Swing has less high end.

I'd say the Swing does have slightly more stability when flagging but not by much as long as you are flying them in appropriate wind for the model. The Strike can be less balanced when riding underpowered but so can the Swing if you are riding it in too much wind. They are both two of the best wave riding wings out there IMHO -Tucker

Maybe it’s just me being used to the strike v3 but I find that has more low end power than the v4 with the right pumping , I can’t seem to generate power from pumping with the v4 it’s just either full of power or not.

  • @MACkiteboarding

    @MACkiteboarding

No, but it's different enough that the option is pretty clear if you want that. The Origin is very grunty, pull and go type wing. Mostly for beginners but some surfers like it for flying the smallest possible wing. -Tucker

The Origin is best summarized as a beginner wing as compared to the others in the lineup but some wave riders do enjoy it as well. It has a softer feel at the handles and more low end lift but it comes at the expense of high end range and performance in apparent wind, upwind, and drag into the wind for tacks and upwind wave riding. Very much a "pull and go" kind of wing. I think it could be a solid contender at a lower price point but I'd encourage even beginners to opt for the Swing for more progression given the similar price. -Tucker

I'm a bit disappointed that F-one hasn't learned from last year's mistakes. They lost a lot of clientele because of the confusion with the Strike and the late launch of the Swing V3. I sold 3 Strikes right after picking them up and went with Ozone, Ocean Rodeo and North which also had a longer lasting build quality, Especially the Ocean Rodeo Glide AA. The F-one's do feel more intuitive and lighter than all the wings I owned/tried so I was disappointed with this year's confused launch with handles options and availability. I do have a 3M Swing V4 on order as I'm OK with the regular handles it comes with for this size, however, F-one lost another sale to Ozone in the New Flow 4.3. I wanted hard handles on that size and there is no telling when these might become available. Both Ozone and North retained their performance better than F-one for riding over-powered. Ocean Rodeo is on another level altogether. I hope F-one improved their build quality. If this year's launch is not going to check all the boxes I might give up on this brand.

Hard to please! The new soft handle in the V4 are extremely comfortable and the new hard handles are just about to be released but, to be honest I dont really think they are necessary. I've had about 5 maxed sessions on my v4 3.5. It's incredibly good.. addictively so.
