2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Review - Ducati's Gateway Drug

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Doing silly things on motards is what it's all about, and Ducati's new Hypermotard 698 Mono encourages you to do just that. With modes to help you wheelie and slide, it's like Ducati wants to bring out the inner hooligan in all of us! We headed out to Spain to give the new bike - and new engine - a spin to see what this silliness was all about.

I’m 47 and just bought the Husqvarna 701 supermoto last September. I didn’t even know Ducati was coming out with one, otherwise I might have gone that route. That said, these types of bikes are really fun! They are twisty road destroyers. And I even do a little highway commuting on it as well. Love the look of the Ducati’s though! 👌

Test rode this bike this week. Thouroughly impressed. Virtually no vibes in the bars and the pegs. Super smooth for a big single. Would love to see this as a dual sport bike. Will probably buy one to add to my Multistrada Pikes Peak. I need a new track bike and don't want to crash my PP. Love it too. The V4S is a magic powerplant. Thank you Ducati.

Great bike, but.... Here in my European country the regular version is 13.700 EUR and the RVE is 14.900 EUR. The KTM smcr is 11.950 EUR. Big difference, + KTM will give a discount on this bike and usually add the tech pack ( or whatever its called for free).

@@LeakyWaders basically you can get a new 690 with a QS for 11k, or a 1 year old 950 Hypermotard SP for 15k here if U want a bigger motardish bike. A 14.900 rve mono is quite a big ask if you want a QS on a big bore sumo.

SMCR comes with quickshifter, more torque, and better balance (fuel further back) for wheelie fun. Crappy gauge is the only downfall but really not a gamechanger. I'm keeping my KTM unless that Bike World rider can convince me otherwise (side by side comparison video coming soon).

Thanks for the detailed info! $1500 seems like a big jump for graphics and a quick shifter doesn’t it? At that price, a quick shifter should be standard, don’t you think?

Agreed. Couple years ago I was comparing my S1000R to my friends Monster 1200 R. My bike had heated grips, cruise control, cornering ABS etc. his Monster R had tft screen and standard ABS. Not even quick shifter. In addition, Ducati usually overrated the power figures and BMW under rates them

I just got myself a KTM 690 SMC-R. Here is a few reasons why i went with that instead of Ducati. -9.500 € new vs 12.800€ -cheaper mods. bought a new exhaust leovince for 650 €. -more grunt down low -seat position and handle bars are more supermoto like. 698 is a bit more naked bike ish. -no led on ktm ? i got a headlight for 75€ fully led and day running light. -easier maintnence when done yourself ( no desmo on ktm ) -cheaper parts incase of crash -KTM is simple. Plastics exhaust electronics. -SPOKED WHEELS !!!!!!!!!! MUST ON SUPERMOTO All in all i think these bikes are both really awesome. i dont wanna be spending 16-17K for a 700cc fun bike. With proper mods my bike will come out to 12-13K and with the grunt down low it feels more like a supermoto than the ducati which i like.

I think many are in the same boat as you. And Ducati can take the *most powerfull single ever* and stuff it. Its a couple of horses up, but nearly 10Nm down. Not to mention that people have been getting 85whp out of the 690/701 motors for years. I can get a lightly used 701SM for just over €10000 in Norway, a 698 is €18000(!). And no, that is not a typo. I currently ride a Superduke, but I’ve had a 690 before :)

So, I love the styling of Italian bikes, Ducati included. But I am always reading about the lack of dependability ? And I get it, much more money spent usually comes with better everything, including dependability ! What are the main dependability issues with the Ducati brand ??? The premium money spent should cover the expense of better engineering, better parts quality, better function, etcetera, so what are the issues with this brand ???

Can you get access to the 698 and do a comparison? That's what we all want to see. I'm keeping my SMCR unless convinced otherwise. From what I'm seeing so far, compared to the SMCR, the 698 is heavier, 20% more expensive, more weight forward (gas) making wheelies harder, and it has less torque. For a SM, torque is more important with low and midrange performance being key.

Not many 18-25 year olds will be buying a $13-$15k bike. Maybe the 26+ but more like 30 something and no kids. While I like a number of Ducati’s designs it’s the luxury tax they add that kids it for me. BMW, KTM, Triumph all European brands and at least for BMW and some degree Triumph on the luxury or premium end of the market yet they still have bikes normal people can afford.

It’s 2024, what 18-25 that you know have $8K for a toy let alone $13K? Only ones I know of have trust funds. Ducati is smart enough to leave the very young to Suzuki, Yamaha, etc. Ducati is an old and wealthy man’s brand and that’s okay. The old and rich buy 60,000 Ducatis every year.
