Having driven a couple of these, I wish they had more power without going to the AWD. These are great cars and should sell very well. The Equinox is on the same chassis as the Blazer, they should offer the same power train.

From what I’m noticing with a lot of reviewers of the blazer EV they’re expecting a Tesla like takeoff so when you accustomed to that type of takeoff, you will kinda expect every vehicle to be that way and that’s not the blazer. It takes off, but not as fast as a Tesla, but it’s fine for some folks like myself and I’m happy with it. It’s not a negative if you wanna takeoff get a Tesla.

The video says the car he is testing has a MSRP of $50,795. I think the Cadillac Optik is a better buy at $54K with everything on this car plus glass roof, premium sound system with active noise cancellation, power seats with memory, heating and ventilation and a much more upscale interior and exterior. Reviews on Super Cruise are very positive. It doesn’t try to do as much as Tesla’s FSD, but it does it well. Main features are auto lane centering, adaptive cruise and auto lane changing. It only operates on premapped roads and is not coupled to the navigation system, so when the highway splits or its time to exit, the driver has to manually direct it. I believe it uses its ADAS sensors to monitor brake lights on vehicles in front as well as radar or the vehicle directly in front to slow and brake for emergency situations. The system should be automatically updated via OTA updates. It’s a $2700 option, free for 3 years than $25/month thereafter. FSD attempts to bite off a much more complex task, its ultimate goal is to emulate an excellent human operator over any road condition. Its sensor suite consists only of 7 cameras. Images from these cameras are used to recreate the environment in cyber space. These objects are given attributes such as kinematics, information from road signs, road conditions such as pot holes speed bumps or debris, and from human road worker. These attributes are used to predict what will happen in the fractions of seconds ahead and the system issues commands to the brakes, accelerator and steering accordingly. It is coupled to navigation and it is working towards the goal of SAE Level 3 autonomy which means the driver is still required, but is not required for continuous monitoring. Basically the driver gets in and tells FSD where he wants to go and FSD should do all the driving whether it be highways, crowed city streets, road constructions, rain, etc. and at the destination, park itself. Interventions where driver takeover are required to be very rare in order to be certified. FSD is an AI system that is trained by crunching driver interventions in a central super computer and than sending instructions to the AI software in the vehicle to drive better. It’s an amazing system but there have been some spectacular failures in its development. After frequent updates the system appears to be closing in on its goal of Level 3 autonomy. FSD is currently an $8,000 option or via subscription at $99/month. The sensor suite and FSD computer are standard in all Teslas.

The Equinox EV would be perfect with a 0-60 in under 6 seconds AND 300 miles of range. The Cadillac Optiq does do that. It is almost $20,000 more though. 0-60 in 8 seconds for an EV is too slow-one of the several benefits of driving an EV is extracted with that acceleration.

They limit the acceleration under 30 mph to help limit torque steer. With the AWD they have the small induction motor to push the car. It’s a handling issue in the FWD and not a power issue as the car is capable of delivering the kW to accelerate faster than 8 sec. The Optiq comes standard with AWD with a slightly different power configuration between the 2 motors… allowing it to do the sub-6 second run. And for that $20k between the Equinox 1LT and Optiq Luxury1 you are getting tons of extra stuff standard: AWD, glass roof, premium cabin materials, AKG audio system, SuperCruise, refined motor configuration, etc. It’s hard to compare the 2 as they aren’t in the same class… even being built on the same platform. I really think GM is very conservative on the Equinox AWD range. A hit of 34 miles for that small rear motor seems high. My first gen Volt said 38 miles and I rarely got under 45 in good driving conditions.

@@brotherdaveseattle2791AND a 300 mile range. You overlooked that in my statement. The Caddy Optiq though has about that. The Equinox EV is a good EV for those transitioning to EVs, though.

Sadly they removed the wireless phone charger across the range. In the center console there is the wire cutout. Wish they had put a USB in the center armrest console to either hold a USB drive or charging/data wire. I like having my drive in there for my music library. Having the charging/data ports near the cup holders is aesthetically unpleasing and I’ll be hitting my arm on the phone all the time. I like my CarPlay in my gas Equinox but didn’t really miss it in my Model 3. As long as the Android Automotive interface is good I think it will be just fine.

If you tested the AWD Blazer EV RS, you drove the lowest-output RS trim version (I'll have to watch that video). The RWD RS Blazer EV adds over 50hp. Also, leg room is nice and it's good to see that the Equinox EV approaches that of the Blazer EV, but the wider Blazer means you could probably seat 3 adults in the back seat comfortably.

I test drove the equinox RS - all wheel drive yesterday I liked it except for there is a noticeable vibration in the front drive unit. We also drove the Blazer RS. AWD. My wife likes the larger blazer much better. For hauling our adult families. It feels a lot more roomy in the back. The biggest thing I didn’t like was it did not have super Kruse available. I don’t know if the equinox just has a problem with the front motor on the one we test drove. Or. That’s how they all are?

Looks like there is about 300 lbs difference between the curb weight of the Equinox EV and the Blazer. Not sure if that’s that bid a difference. The Blazer is just a couple of inches longer, wider and taller. I do like the styling of the Equinox more.

Sport mode seems over damped on the accelerator, I bet if this thing did a proper launch from a dig it could shave 0.1-0.2 seconds off its zero to 60. I have a lightning and it throws you forward like a roller coaster if you stomp it in sport mode. They could have saved the soft launch for non-sport mode.

The idea that Supercruise is better than Tesla FSD is beyond silly. Supercruise does lane keeping on approved roads well, but FSD's capabilities are lightyears ahead of what GM is offering. You might want to look into the most recent versions of FSD because the improvements have been game-changing recently.

Historically Supercruise had a substantial lead over FSD but the recent versions starting from v12.4 from FSD have been beyond impressive in their capabilities but still need to be tested further. supercruise is more reliable but the more data Tesla gathers the more reliable it will get over time. Also both system vastly differ in the scope of the problem they are trying to solve with FSD being a broader autonomy stack than Supercruise
