Gotta be the slowest and most unmotivated fire fighters I’ve ever seen

Water: "hey guys?? I'm right here, ready to go" FD: "don't call us, we'll call you"

Well, enough has been said about the poor performance of the FD. How about the guy who moved his car and sailboat only 20 feet further down the road instead of getting it out of there completely? Seems no one in the area has any common sense.

Whatever you do, don't put any water on the fire, you don't want to push the fire around.... 😂

Shame on this supposed “Truck company”. There were so many truck duties that could have been carried out while awaiting the arrival of the first engine. Instead of walking back and forth, ground ladders could be raised to areas of potential need (a single firefighter can accomplish that task). Residents can questioned about any additional occupants who might be in the buildings (the officer’s job) The 3 story corner exposure could be entered for a quick search for occupants and to determine the extent of the fire extension. Utilities could be controlled if possible (another single firefighter job) Forcible entry could have been performed if necessary to speed up the advancement of hose lines and/or create evacuation points if one became necessary. A lot can be accomplished by a well trained, pro active crew that’s prepared to work as soon as the rig stops.

They seem to be doing everything except fighting the fire.

Initial issues No manpower, no water, no command structure. Actually command system never existed through the entire operation

In the Netherlands , firetruck (tankauto spuit) have 5000 liter of water and start spraying right away and get the water supply in place , this is not good takes such a long time to get the water.

Great training video. It shows the right/wrong way to place aerial trucks,water supply, size up, exposures, utilities, etc.

Legend has it the 2 truck Red Hat is still aimlessly walking around.

By the time they start putting out the fire, the hut will have burned down. Unthinkable in Germany!

I guess there is no water in Mount Carmel and certainly no hurry to put any on an out of control fire. Maybe this town needs a fire department.

They need some serious organizational skills...

I just can’t comprehend the lack urgency and decision making for an initial attack on this fire!!!!!

In the uk that fire would be out in 10 minutes before it got that bad as we use the water tank under the fire truck one truck would stay for a couple of hours damping down

Guys, this isn't brain surgery! You break out those second-floor windows and hit that front room with tank water within the first minute of arrival. Then you pull a line up the stairs to finish it off, open the ceiling and search for more fire. What you guys did was beyond useless and downright criminal.

Unfortunately that's what you get with a volunteer only FD, the youngins are too busy getting high to get involved in their community, I see two kids, a girl and a guy but they're not in charge but at least they're there in some capacity. My mother's cousins husband was a volunteer, he as physically unfit as they come, all he was doing was guiding a fire truck as it was backing up and he literally dropped dead right there, he was the nicest guy but grossly out of shape and older, a girl I went out with her father was a volunteer he drove the truck, he didn't like me so one day we went to her house, we were immediately surrounded by all these drunken volunteer fireman, they were threatening me with bodily harm, her father came out to clear them away from my car and told us to go and that he'll tale case of them, I shuddered to think that if there were a fire at that moment that they would be too drunk to do anything about it. Next time there's some sort of fair or carnival, it's always the direman who have the beer stand, just think about that and it'd scare you to death.

And this week’s winner of the Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour of Firefighting goes to … Anthracite VFD. Yes lads, it is true- the sooner you apply ample water to a working fire, then less combustion occurs hence property is conserved and everybody is happier. Water on the fire, try it next time.

Truckie with the red helmet sure does like walking around the first 10 min or so with his hook

the worst thing if your a ladder company without a pump is to be first due on scene because your dead in the water waiting for a water supply, first due engine company should have pulled a line and use tank water until getting the supply hooked up so you atleast get water flowing on the fire. only leader i saw was the cop giving directions an helping out good for him. there looked to be a probationary fireman youg kid standing there with his hands in his pockets counting plooms of smoke. i understand its volunteer, my husband has been one for decades, atleast pretend you think you know what your doing, the chief needs to get his head out of his cornhole an take charge. could they have stopped the fire from spreading to the 3 story, absolutly not. they should use this video and use it as a training tool on what not to do and improve from there and teach them to read the smoke an not just stare it

It appears that nobody really knows what to do at this fire. Just another episode of the keystone firefighters......

This is pretty embarrassing....

It went from little smoke to an inferno and still no water yet wow

No overhead power lines, buddy moved his sailboat from right in front of fire site ( could have moved the trailer right out of the area) buddies still talking about what to do and walking around with stick hooks and still no action to actually get a hold of a hose and put some water on the inferno. Everything they have looks really good - nice shining apparatus, new coats but nothing (nuffin) is rolling around in them heads.

WTF?!?! I thought the job of the fire department was to place H2O on a fire, not walk around for 5 - 10 minutes hollering, having zero clue what to do. Failed. Fire -1, FFers - 0

How often do these FF get out of the station and fight fires. Gee whiz guys, fire is coming out the windows. Holy cow. Did anyone bring coffee and donuts.

​@@virgilhilts3924 try after the 2nd Engine arrived (Engine 21 Atlas). The video does not show the first Engine (2) arriving one man band with a Chauffeur had no clue on how to establish a water supply after blowing past the hydrant and fire.

We would buy you a clue but I do not think you would understand it. The Engine you see in the video was the 2nd Engine to arrive. While the 1st in Engine 2 Anthracite tried arguing with command when told to hit a hydrant! By the way the hydrant was across the street from the fire and the 3rd in Engine (squad 21) hit it you can see the hydrants location when the 3rd truck arrived at approx 24 min. Other apparatus are also not shown in this video.

These guys are terrible. Ive been a Firefighter for 20 years and i have never seen such a incompetence in my career. These FF's need to find new career paths. They are all a hazard.

@virgilhilts3924 are you a certified Firefighter or just watch KZread videos? I'm very curious for the fact that anyone else with hands on experience of the fireground would notice these issues. You are very obviously very defensive of this awfully trained department. A first year probationary Firefighter can plainly see the issues here even a "KZread couch Firefighter" can see. But clearly you are getting defensive over a department that is SERIOUSLY lacking training and are very lucky no one has gotten hurt.

They are, without much question, quite well intentioned, decent men serving their community as volunteer firefighters. They have proper equipment but this fire scene, (IMHO a classic case) shows that without leadership; without lots of prior training, not only are they potty much useless at a major fire, they are subject to unnecessary personal risk that expands the opportunity for serious injury or death in their ranks. Everybody should have a pre-assigned role . . . Nobody should be doing circles waiting for a first-in engine to bring water. The truck tank on the first-in ladder should have been drained within the first 3-minutes. No, it would not put the fire out, but it would have robbed it of a lot of energy thereby holding the line until the “big water” was available. As always, Pryor’s rule applies: “Prior planning prevents piss poor performance.”

The fire station is 2 blocks away from this home

Why is it that when Trick 2 arrived on scene there was a small fire showing on the roof line, but no one attempted to get a hose line on to it. they seemed, to me, to be more interested in gaining access to the property through the front door. here in the UK that would have been the first priority and then try to attack the fire from ther ways!

Another fire department that was thinking more about their donut break than trying to fight a fire. Inept is word here!

Hopefully the firefighter who was injured, makes a quick recovery. The 2nd floor of the fire building, lit up really quick. But once they opened up the hose lines. They knocked it right down ( great job guys) Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.

That structure was destroyed due to firemen inaction and limited water use.

I am absolutely dumbfounded watching this video....I realize there are things we can't hear and see about the way this fire was handled but the most obvious is the apparent lack of any kind of command structure and coordination between different departments. I would guess most of these are volunteers and even though they don't see many fires of this size and complexity there was so much wrong it's hard to know where to start with any kind of critique.

There are fires like this quite frequently in the coal region of PA. But obviously there is a serious lack of command or urgency

Looks to me that all the firefighters are walking 360s around their vehicles instead of bringing a hose line inside the structure or spraying water in the structure from the outside where I live it’s all volunteer departments they even do a better job then the guys in this video

Is it not amazing that once the man on the latter gets done riding around and back to where he was and finally Produces a large amount of water, the fire is put out.

In the Netherlands, water is available 30 seconds after the arrival of the first firetruck. This takes far to long. And fireman standing on a burning roof in mortal danger. Those guys are a disgrace.

I have 26 years in with an ISO class 1 department. I also have 28 years in with a volunteer department. It is hard to tell all the conditions from this video but it did seem as if they were disorganized and 6+ minutes to get water on a fire like that does seem to be a long time. I am a big fan of a transitional attack on a fire like that but you have to get off the truck and get to work.

why are they so slow after arrival to getting water on the fire over 6 minuites before any attempt was made

Before reading the comments, I was thinking the same thing: why are they walking around doing nothing while these people home burn to the ground. We watched the fire take over the house while they walked back and forth, woweeee. Sometimes, I think they like playing with fire like it's training. Look at time stamp 13:08, the three trying to raise a ladder; if this isn't incompetence, I don't know what is. It's like clowns with buckets. LAFD would never do this.

What the hell... They were just walking around like nothing was going on.

IT seemed in the first 10 minutes they had a lack of manpower. Also it took forever for the ladder to get water. they could have done a quick knock with the master stream. Thank God none of the personnel were injured.

This is really beyond belief. If I were a resident of that community I’d be questioning the service that these fire companies provide. Once they finally got water on it things got better quickly.

EXTENSIVE TRAINING NEEDED! A TRAINED crew on an Engine (even without a 'Command Structure') would've been a TOTALLY different video!! Funny note- About the 10:15 mark, I was thinking, "At least it didn't spread to the 'D' exposure"! Immediately jumped to 10:30 !! whoops!

Quite the sense of urgency by that FD. Guys walking around with tools in their hands, water sporadically being pumped by the ladder/snorkel unit. Great job.

Because it was a (dry) ladder. No water on board. Should have hooked a hydrant, and laid in the water supply.

Interesting that that one neighbor was leaning against the house on the corner when smoke was coming out of it.

Who ever was IC should be demoted back to a rookie, better yet that whole assignment needs to retrain. Guessing in real time it was probably 10 minutes before water was applied. Taxpayers are definitely not getting the service they deserve. Total embarrassment to the fire department and taxpayers

Cut 3 holes in roof with it clearly venting from 1 hole already. 3 ladders with nozzles pinned back for rescue not aerial master streams. What did they think was gonna come out of the holes? 0 water to roof.

Why did it take over 7 minutes to put water on fire, I pray for the people of this town my lord,😮😮

This is so embarrassing. Guys need to work on position riding. Because obviously by them standing at the rig for more then 4 mins they DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. Come on CUZ 30 mins for a roof cut. Embarrassing.

Working fire is a fire that is progressing through the structure. You can have a structure fire that isn't working say if it was confined to a fireplace or boiler or just a room.

A lot of walking back and forth

No haste, walking around leisurely, one getting a ceiling hook and wandering off away from the fire before having a chat, hose pulled off the engine about as slowly as it is possible to pull a hose! Their total lack of interest in getting water on the fire and saving property is stunning. I wouldn't call them to extinguish a cigarette butt. A bunch of somnambulists!

Not a drop of water for way to long a period and they know they had a working fire because police confirmed it and they show up without SCBA'S already on wasting more time. Red helmet just wandering around like he's lost and failed to do mandatory walk around.

It would've pushed the fire towards the power lines and caused them to drop (utility crews likely took their sweet time getting there to shut them down)

Lots of firefighters in smaller areas are older men because they've done it for so long. The younger guys will come through and depending on the type of older guys they work with, the newer guys will be wandering as they dont know what to do either. Also, the younger guys leave the smaller departments for bigger paid departments so all that is left are older guys. It's pretty sad.

This certainly helps explain the two-hour delay in the start of last year's 4th of July parade.

I counted at least 6 guys walking around with their hands in their pockets , 4 guys never did get involved, chief ( fat guy with radio) walking around no helmet, and it just goes on. Is the city paying for this service? What a joke. At least they own a few ladders. Maybe they can use them to help tear this building down. Awful. Hey there MCFD 3 Chief...I think the guys at McDonalds are waiting for you to get back and pick up the check. You might as well go, your not doing anything here. Pathetic

The guy with the sailboat looked a little peeved that he had to move it, and then only moves it one parking spot away...lol
