2023 Volvo V60 - DM Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Volvos are good. Wagons are good. Volvo wagons are very good. And with this new B5 powertrain, Cross Country ground clearance, and S-tier Bowers & Wilkins sound system, this is a very very good car. Great, even.

I recently read that the manual adjustment for the steering wheel is not a money issue but a safety issue. In the event of a crash and loss of electrical power you can still move the steering out of your way, while an electric system keeps you trapped. Makes good sense to me. Besides, how often do we change the position?

I’ve heard this too, but Mercedes also cares greatly about safety and has power adjustable columns. Idk.

@@DailyMotor maybe they don’t care enough. Or less than Volvo. I don’t find the manual adjustment a serious inconvenience and prefer to know in the event of an accident where I might need to be able to move the steering column, I can!

Team DM, The Topher is single-handedly doing his best to fight against insidious automotive fashion trends and save sidewall. Now it is up to Daily Motor to Save The Wagon. 😉😁😉🤩 For the record, Volvo Truck 8:18 is an entirely separate company still based in Gothenburg, Sweden.

I bought a used out of warranty 2016 XC90 (avoid the 16 they seem to have more problems than most as its the first new model year) with the Bowers system. And I put up with its issues just for this amazing freaking system. Even after I've had a supercharger fail, and issues with the pano roof leaking. I'll probably just buy another one (this time at least CPO with a warranty haha). You get bit by the Volvo bug and its hard to get away from them lol. Even with the quirks and downsides.

I just purchased a ‘23 V60 CC B5 ultimate and it’s a dream. After driving for about a month, the biggest head scratcher is the terrible sun visor design when used on the side window - I can’t see out the window when I’m driving!! An minor issue alongside a tome of triumphs. SUVs can kiss my *** :)

Wagons…the best design ever I think sport mode might be pushing the shifter to the left. Is there a small silver rotary wheel behind the shifter?

I own a 2022 S60 B5 R-Design. I agree with everything you say. I preferred the V60 over the S60 over the V60 Cross Country...but a V60 really wasn't available. Thunder Grey, HK sound system (couldn't find one fall of 2021 with B&W that wasn't a Recharge...and that was still the sub-20 mile version) and a few options (Head Up display, climate package, she's loaded) AND....in the fall of 2021 I picked it up for $46K. Sticker was $51. No over charges, no premiums, no market adjustments. I cannot tell you how much I love this car. I average 30+ MPG in around town driving and way over that on the highway...sometimes pushing 40 MPG.....the fuel tank is large....the trunk is *meh*...and the seats. The nappa leather is an utter joy. After a long stressful day at the office climbing in, firing up something through the sound system, relaxing into the seats and gripping the perfectly sized and wrapped wheel....it's calming, rewarding and a joy to drive. I cross shopped it with the A4/A5, Arteon, C-Class and 3-Series and new TLX. All of them had something to offer. None of them put everything together the way this car does. Some were quicker, some handled better, some arguably had some better tech. The TLX gave the sound system a serious battle and I do love the lines on that car. Still...none of them offered the value to quality ratio. I'm glad you both enjoy your time in the Volvos. I am pretty confident that when it comes time for my wife to move on from her Accord Hybrid there will be a second Iron Mark in the garage. Keep up the great work! I love your channel. Edit: So my favorite thing about this car is the rear fog light. Such a simple thing. I know it's on other Euro vehicles but because of safety requirements overseas. Also I forgot to mention the headlights on this car are absolutely the best I have ever driven behind at night. Their auto bending and sensing is the best thing short of the hopefully soon to appear matrix LED lighting they have in Europe. Okay. I'll stop typing now. No, my comments aren't always this long! I just love my Thundercat.

Currently owning V60 B4 2021 in same color, perfect car. Other will be same but CC if they will still manufacture this design in few years :D Actually B4 FEELS faster than T5 for weird reason. Maybe initial acceleration is faster because of mild hybrid. Drive modes has difference. Dynamic mode increases initial RPM and allows to go RPM to the end and gearbox expects from you that you will press pedal deep :D One thing that started to annoy is that transmission started to act weird after 27k kms. When car is cold and fully stopped at the light and after 1s feels like a kick from gearbox sometimes light sometimes harder. Also if you stop slightly touching brake nothing happens no kick but when you press deep brake pedal same kick happens. Trying to investigate this with a dealer. Currently no error codes, software is up to date so lets he how it goes... :D (When car is warm that kick/jerk is barely noticeable)

I think the BMW has 30-40% less EV range though and you can’t of course get the wagon sadly. Cross shopping BMW here as well and current BMW owner but most of their new designs look terrible, the volvo just looks classy thank goodness they haven’t gone with the “Hi, I have a giant front grille” look that every other manufacturer (looking at you, Lexus!) seems to be embracing
