The honey and onion pretzel nuggets are available through Snyders of Hanover, Pretzel Pete's, and through local smaller suppliers for "Country Store" outlets online and in food-producing areas. They're pretty tasty. They also have a peanut-butter filled variety that are clearly a "sometime treat" because after the first five or six, you won't want any more for a day or three. The Xylitol sweetener in the chewing gum helps prevent tooth decay by starving out the tooth decay bacteria, but ALSO it will help MOVE THAT MEAL because it's kind of a laxative.

Eating at home with my Mom was fake chicken in the 90s before that was popular and eating at home with my Dad/Step Mom was less pleasant then that. She denies it but once we went to my Moms for Thanksgiving and she said "look it's a tofu turkey, it jiggles!" And jiggled this disgusting log at us. Even frito pie and things at school I didn't like were better then that. I'll eat a half baked rectangle pizza slice any day of the week compared to that.

Hey Steve. On the off chance that you read this, I love your honest, informative, and historical content. I was wondering if you’d be willing to review modern meals like from Mountain House or other emergency/camping foods. I know they’re not true MREs or historical rations, but I think it’d be interesting to compare them to rations you’ve had in the past. Stay safe out there.

I didn’t hear the word rancid, rad, but I did hear some of the most amazing commentary I could have expected with such a new MRE. Thank you preserving history and doing what you do. As someone with no vision your verbal no nonsense description has always fascinated me and given me an amazing picture of what’s being presented in my brain.

I just realized that, components-wise, there's no significant alteration between Menu #14 when it was the Fettucine compared to Menu #14 Rice and Bean Bowl (aside from the salt being reduced and the pepper flakes in the Fettucine being replaced by the powdered hot sauce but considering we saw powdered Tapatio in the CCAR prototype, the swap does make sense as the MREs are being improved upon), but here, combining the components like the crackers and pretzel nuggets enhances the Rice and Bean Bowl from an already good entree to a really solid meal, while combining the same components with the Fettucine just barely made it palatable, it really goes to show how the quality and flavor of an entree can either ruin or enhance the meal experience.

I would love it if they offered the original chocolate covered cookie bar they used to have back in the late 80's, early 90's instead of the energy bar they offer now.
