2023 Toyota GR Corolla vs Honda Civic Type R vs Hyundai Elantra N // DRAG RACE + LAP TIMES
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The new Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition ($53,900 in Canada, $42,900 in the US) has to make a name for itself amongst its stiff competition. Today that means a drag race with some worthy contenders - the Honda Civic Type R ($46,200 in Canada, $37,895 in the US) and the Hyundai Elantra N ($39,653 in Canada, $32,150 in the US). The Gr Corolla may have the AWD traction advantage off the hop, but the Civic is lighter and more powerful, and the Elantra has a torque advantage.
Will James be able to get ahead and stay ahead in the GR Corolla? Or will Thomas in the Elantra N or ultra-focused Kartson in the Civic Type R be able to overcome and win? Anything can happen in a drag race, so watch to see what happens! We hope you enjoy the episode. Thanks for watching! SUBSCRIBE!
Thank you to Derick @drckaglr_fk8 for loaning us his Type R
And to @initial.r for making it happen!

Elantra N reminds me of a Megane RS in desirability aspect, when it comes to the European market. It's not that desirable, not that well known, but it destroys the competition (talking about the Megane mostly) when it comes to the overall driveability, car feel, track use (Golf R, Audi S3, Golf GTI Clubsport etc) Hyundai might not be yet on this level, we need to see more tests of course, but they're on the right track in my opinion, you get the point hopefully.

Don't forget N Vision 74 which is the hottest concept in a decade. Young people really don't know how bad Hyundais were. They are now looking this brand as a shiny new hot brand people can't stop talking about. i'm in my mid 40s and i grew up in an era where you wouldn't want to be caught dead in hyundai/kias. i was civic/integra boy ricer at heart. now i want this N so bad. if you asked me if i would ever desire a korean car just 5-6 years ago then i would laugh at you and call you names. again, we are in a different era. everything is changing so fast. it's kinda scary if you ask me.

Regardless of the lap times my actual list of what I'd buy is Golf R, Elantra N, GR Corolla, then Type R. Whichever one I chose would certainly be in manual and I'm SO GLAD that you guys were able to keep the theme of testing ALL of the cars with a manual regardless of what's available or faster. Bravo once again. Did I mention how good it did my heart to see back to back tests of fast cars ALL with manuals? Maybe the good 'ol days aren't over just yet. ✌️😁👍

Thanks for the great video. I have been waiting for this kind of comparisons. EN did very well here with less power(at least on paper) and/or less driving wheels. I am woundering how the DCT will do. Have y’all tested the Elantra N DCT? I’m curious if that would’ve done better on the roll and on the dig race. It’s got a 5.1 0-60, vs the 5.9 on the manual. Just some food for thought. I know the rest are manuals but the Elantra does have the automatic option, plus a little boost option for those straight aways… could be fun? 😏
I recently purchased an Elantra N, very happy with it. At least in my province: Type R 53K, Corolla 55K, Elantra N 40K. I'm happy with it's performance at that price. The Civic Si manual is 37K here, with a much worse warranty if you're worried about such things.
My coworker just bought a new Elantra N and its pretty sick, it makes plenty of noise to turn heads and looks nice too. Personally ill stick with my charger, but i think you get a great value for your money with the Elantra N!

I don't get the point why the GR impressed you in the drag race. After all it's the second more powerful - only 6hp down - of the three. On top of that it's the only one that has 4WD. I'm actually surprised that it didn't win by more than that. However, it was obvious that the GR would win the drag race. Otherwise Toyota would have done a pretty poor job.

I picked up a 22 Veloster N 2 weeks ago. Had to drive 700 miles to test drive and purchase. SO happy with how it performs already. I got really lucky. It's one of the last ever models made in the US. Had 11k miles on it. Manual. I cannot believe how the stock exhaust sounds... I already got a res delete and I will NOT do anything else. It's perfect as is. I'm utterly shocked at the value for performance.
Elantra N has an Octane learning feature which sux because I’m not sure it it was octane learned at the time of the video. Increases boost by roughly 4psi.
Long live the manual! 💪 Awesome that these great cars still can be had with three pedals!
