2023 Toyota Crown XLE (Base) / Finding a Throne
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
To nobody's surprise, the only Crown model in the US, is the one with body cladding and a lift kit. Fortunately, it's Japanese character and sensible qualities make it good enough to stand against the Kia Stinger and (now dead) VW Arteon. I also think it is substantially nicer than the Camry or Honda Accord, but I'm still having a hard time deciding who this is for.
Thank you, Royal South Toyota, for letting me test drive this Crown.

Even though the 0-60 time is 7.5, it has plenty of power off the line where you need it. The power is adequate and it will do what is needed when asked. I went from an Audi A4 (300 plus HP) and now I am driving the Toyota Crown Limited and I am loving it. My Audi was performance based for certain, but the looks of the Crown, the luxury and MPG has made me forget about my Audi. This is a great vehicle.

My crown rides like the American luxury of the 80’s. Comfortable and great

So I won’t feel like I’m struggling to pass?
I am loving my 2024 XLE Crown in Oxygen White. Not everything has to be a hatchback, the trunk isolates the rear end road noise. If I need the additional cargo space I will borrow my wife's Rav4, which has better cargo space than the Venza. As for needing a 360 degree camera, I am 57 and this is my first vehicle with a backup camera, was driving a 2012 Camry Hybrid without one. The distinctive look is a plus for me, I do not need or want my vehicle to look like everything else on the road.
We love our Crown limited excellent ride quality great MPG getting 45 MPG on the 2nd tank of fuel. AWD is a plus in the winter months. The ingress and egress height is on the money. We wanted a sedan and that’s what this vehicle is.👍👍
I don't know. I went to the NY auto show and sat in one. It had a black interior that makes interiors seem more closed in. The room is good in it and I didn't find an issue with rear headroom at 5 foot 10.5. But, smallish windows made it not feel airy. I do hope it sells well as I'm tired of just seeing the CUVs out which I don't personally find easier to enter and exit or feel particularly that much roomier than other cars. I didn't get the feeling Toyota was really pushing the car. One version while there were multiple versions of the Prius. And it wasn't on a platform. I almost missed it.
The "full length light bar" does not light up on the U.S. versions of the Crown. Only on the East Asian versions (Japan, etc) - Regardless that they are all manufactured in Japan. For the U.S. version, only the headlight daytime running LEDs light up. Not the center portion. Why do so many youtubers get this wrong even if they have the car in front of them? they don't even ever show it lit up. The only video of the front full LED light bar lit up is on a "made For" Japan car

I’d mod it with all the JDM equipment. Crown badges all over, JDM light bar. This will be on my shopping list
Incredible sedan! Fall in love with this style and concept!+++++
Wow, that is weird that the Crown is larger but has practically the same legroom and cargo space. What a head scratcher.
Great review as always, Tyler!
I love how it’s supposed to be for “older folks”😂I’m 52 (but owned an Avalon at 30). My 2021 Avalon Touring was rear ended and practically totaled a couple months ago. I was devastated!! My options were Camry, Venza or Lexus ES series. For price, look, features (I would never want a hatchback unless it was a true SUV) this Limited has been a GREAT buy. In many ways, it has exceeded my expectations. Once I got out of my head that it wasn’t an Avalon, it’s been a pleasure to drive. I get lots of looks and questions about my car from 20-something guys and men in their 60s. Go figure!
I love almost everything about my XLE crown, but I would not have purchased it if the trunk had not been physically separate from the cabin. Not everything needs to be a hatchback, especially the closest thing you can get from Toyota to a Touring sedan
I’ve been waiting for your take on this! 😎
a perfect Toyota 👍, thanks for the review 😀.
Enjoying the platinum. Luxury at its best if comparing to an L500H in pricing. I feel it is challenging to determine what factors outline a corrective view of this car. When I know the front window cost $2400 to replace, one may want to stay away from trucks which the platinum has enough punch to get around them. So much tech on this vehicle, it will take some time to utilize its potential. Overall, the crown has grown to my liking when the prior vehicle which I still own is a modified 2006 Toyota Tacoma extracab 4cyl. 2.7 engine.

Limited might be the sweet spot for this model. Platinum is a completely new platform so reliability might be a question.
Literally saw one the other day. For how good it looks I had to say what about the middle tail light that looks a little outdated. Could they not have put a better middle tail light?
Good quality cloth seats are a huge plus in my book. I hate sticky in hot weather leatherette (glorified vinyl by any other name). I know the styling is divisive, but I like it and I don't mind it having just a trunk. I think an XLE would suit me fine.

I’d rock an XLE if only it came with the 360 parking cam. Sucks that NorthAm base models don’t get this.

@@canto_v12 Never had it so I wouldn't miss it. Current car has a front camera and rear sensors and that's fine.
Can I use 21"wheels instead of the 19" in my XLE crown? Will it affect the car?
I can't believe not a single review nor Toyota mention the fact that the AWD system is not just reactive when you need it; the system is proactive i have the XLE and i see the operation of the AWD. It is active when you start moving from stop and that helps move the car instantly, it is active when you make turns and that helps the car stay stable working with active driving from Toyota safety 3.0.
@Realistick

The display lies to you unfortunately, the system is not full-time. I have gotten wheel spin from the system and you can literally hear the power get cut and then sent to the rear! The display shows you how much of a torque split it COULD do. If it wasn’t this way then they wouldn’t have bothered with the E-axle design or with making a drive shaft that can disconnect.
@sailboatlighthouse
Ай бұрын
@@Realistick your opinion is respected however, debatable. If the display shows what it could do, then it would continuously do so but it only shows as you move from stop and during cornering, then it reverts back to front wheel drive so you are the expert however, I wish I was convinced. Thank you for the reply though.
@Realistick

@@sailboatlighthouse No worries if you’re still skeptical, you can google it to learn more about the system. The E-awd is pretty interesting!
Been curious about the Crown, thanks for your excellent review, Tyler. If I was going to spend $53, 000 it wouldn't be on that car.
You think this powertrain will have enough power in Grand Highlander XLE? Can wait your take when in comes out and you get to test one. Thank you for your reviews.
@Realistick
Жыл бұрын
Enough, sure, but that kind of weight would surely make it feel stressed if you’re trying to pass at higher speeds with the thing loaded up. It’ll probably feel as peppy as most small suvs, I’m eagerly awaiting the chance to drive a Grand Highlander!

@@Realistick Thanks for reply, I know it will be offered with hybridMax but the regular hybrid with some 30+ MPGs in big SUV is a win-win imo.
Yeah, they should have brought over a different version of the crown to the US. Good review!
I’m loving the gun show 💪🏻handsome. 😁. Thank goodness for warner weather! 😁. I wonder if this would be an upgrade to a loaded Subaru Legacy sedan? I didn’t think the ride height was any better. I appreciate the giant in the trunk as always. 😊

I would go with the Camry and the updated Camry will be coming out soon so I'll wait to see what upgrades have been made
My next car.
Realistick would you prefer the base 23 Vw arteon or the Base crown. They are the same prices at around 38k after discounts... the Arteon has a Hatch and important to me Parking sensors and does not have the plastic fenders etc..... leaning Arteon but it is a 23, do not make them anymore and the Toyota well has that Toyota quality and resale.......... what say you and others both have 4 wheel drive but I think the Arteon may be more all wheel drive sport and is faster with 300 hp turbo 4
@Realistick
Ай бұрын
I like the arteon more personally, however, I agree that the resale and running cost offset the better handling and versatility. I might personally go with the crown for that reason but If you’re willing to accept the financial reality, by all means, go Arteon!
Bro you’re reading my mind 😅recently. All cars i search for appear in a review next day or same day. The trd video previously.
If the cars you review were as good as your reviews of those cars, they'd sell like crazy! I can see the Crown selling on a combination of good looks, fuel economy and overall competence (I think it looks great). But as others have noted, a hatchback would add a whole additional level of usefulness and the car would look the same. How could Toyota miss that?

@@Realistick yeah hopefully because the USA is a SUV Land, would make sense to sell it there.
Absolutely agreed on the hatchback point. Would have been so much better if this was a hatch/liftback/wagon. Guess they don't want this stealing any sales from their precious CUVs/SUVs.

Why would it be better as a hatchback though? I prefer a larger sedan with a self contained trunk as it is.. I don't understand the obsession with something being a hatchback- can you at least explain why?

I’d much rather go with the Camry. it’s a lot cheaper, just as luxurious, has more features, more refined with the v6, more headroom, bigger trunk, same legroom, better performance, handling, ride, etc. and it looks a lot better with the black roof
With the excessive electronics I wonder about the cost of ownership once the warranty expires. It's probably not a good thing.

They don’t have the best engineering. That award goes to Honda
I wish we had gotten the sedan. Looks so much more sleek and elegant. This thing just looks like a Honda Crosstour, a model that died for a reason.
In terms of looks it probably would have been a better move for Toyota to offer us the Crown sedan especially since this is meant to replace the Avalon. Or, since we're also not getting the redesigned C-HR, the Crown Sport would have been cool too, but I guess that would take away from the Corolla Cross' thunder.
Your commentary is quite frank, but detailed!! The exterior design is hulking and ginormous with an interior that looks far from upscale. I think money is better spent on a Lexus.
the red and orange ones in the press photos are way better looking than this thing we're getting.
So if your batteries fail, is that a bipolar disorder? The irony is that bipolar disorder is frequently treated with lithium.
I just got one ... and I am disappointed, the air pressure noise coming from the window feels very strong over 50 miles .. my left ear is hurting

Maybe get it checked? We went on a road trip today. 80 mph no issues! Love it.
We NEED the Crown Estate here in the US. It is far better looking and more functional than this.
This thing really doesn't know what it wants to be. It looks big, but isn't all that capacious. It's lifted, but has no real ground clearance. It looks like a hatch, but isn't, and should be. It sort of wants to be sporty, and definitely isn't. On the other hand, it's built well, and reasonably comfortable. The interior layout and material quality seems fairly "premium." The oddball exterior style will quickly look dated, especially with that goofy two-tone treatment. I'm not sure what makes this a more effective model overall than the more clearly focused Avalon it replaced. Better fuel mileage? More power? Depends on which engine you get. This Crown seems like a good, solid car, but not particularly inspirational. Is it aspirational? I suppose...maybe. Ambivalence, that's the main thing I feel here.
@canto_v12

This will come down to individual tastes. I view it as a better Avalon for old people because of the improved ingress/egress. It also fits people who don’t want the CUV aesthetics. I’m not in the Avalon demographic (yet) but I’ve been a sucker for anything with the Crown name on it 😂

One yr run.. we buy suv at those prices..
If you hate driving a car that everyone drives, this one's for you. This will be a collector's item down the road because very few will be sold and will be discontinued sooner than later. I don't know what Toyota was thinking.
Basically they recreated the Avalon. A pointless car for those to cheap to buy a Lexus but to stuck up to buy a camery

The Crown occupies an interesting product placement in Japan, but in a volume market like the US they can’t risk upsetting Lexus sales.
So disappointed this is a sedan and not a hatch. The hatch would help justify the cost premium over a Camry.
I had no idea Toyota came out with this I came to KZread after seeing an ad on Facebook. I went in the video excited and left disappointed and vehicle is off my list.
I could not find anything interesting about the Crown. Just like the Avalon which the Crown had replaced, it's junk. Sticking with my Camry XSE V6.
time at the throne lol..... sounds like potty
Yeah nobody wants this joke It’s way too expensive, ugly looking, the performance is just embarrassing, and it lacks luxury features the Avalon used to have
It’s ugly!
In this XLE can i use 21" wheels instead of the 19"? Will it affect my vehicle?
