2023 SOUTH MIDLAND CENTRE GRASSTRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

Спорт

The Fenland Grasstrack were back with their first meeting after 4 years out of action. Lot's of changes at the club, but they were back with a bang at their regular Wood Walton venue. One of the most competitive classes right now is the 250cc Solo's. With so many Intermediates coming up to senior racing this year, it has blown the class wide oped, and this meeting was the same. Some cracking racing in the 250's, with Charlie Wood, Hayden Watts, Karl Bedingfield, Max Derrick, Kenzie Cossey, Austin Riches, Adam Hawker, Harrison Rogers, and Luke Harris, but also a veteran who can still fly on any machine, the very quick Ricky Scarboro.
There was some terrific action in the other Solo classes also, such as the GT140cc class, and as ever, the man to beat was British Champion Ian Clark. He is really stamping his authority over the rest of the riders in this class now, even though Ian rarely makes a good start, he is fantastic to watch as he carves his way through the field. With Mark Scopes, Wayne & Max Broadhurst, Kevin Gwillam, and Steve Newsham looking like his main opposition, could he take yet another win this season?
Tom Cossar/Wayne Rickards are looking like a different proposition to the crew we have seen in recent years, and even getting a victory over his multi British Masters Champion brother Mark Cossar earlier in the season, they were going to be the crew to beat here. Will Offen/Ricky Pay, Trevor & Sam Heath, and Billy Winterburn/Richard Webb look to be their main opposition.
The LH Sidecars also put on a great show. A little thin on the ground, but those crews who did turn out put on some great racing. The North Brothers took to the handlebars for the first time on different outfits, so that brotherly rivalry could turn up the heat a bit between them. With Josh Penfold/Dan Woodbridge, Tom Penfold/William Naden, Rob Heath/Kyle Fish, Billy Penfold/Callum Ray, and Danny & Harry Hill all looking to take the South Midland Centre title.
A small entry in the 500cc Sidecars also, but just like the LH Sidecars, it was competitive stuff, with the fast improving Simon Field/Shane Freeman looking for more improvement here, along with Jordan Smith/Joe Page, and the returning Chris Hay/Karl Hocaniuk. One of these crews had a very spectacular fail in one heat which delayed the meeting by over an hour.
Some good youngsters on display in the Youth races, and the Pre '75 and Upright Solo's also put on some good racing. All in all not a bad first meeting back for the Fenland Grasstrack Club.
