2023 Sherco 300SEF First Ride

Ойын-сауық

First ride on the new 2023 Sherco 300SEF Factory Edition. This four stroke is amazing on my local single track trails. The bike handled everything I rode very well including some technical sections. The forks feel a it stiff but I'm going to give them some time to break in. Overall I think this is the best "do it all" four stroke on the market today.

    I was on 2 strokes the last five years. Wanted a change. I just got a GasGas EX250F for here in PA, but the Sherco was definitely the other option I looked at. My friend has one and it’s been a tank with a great engine. So far, riding a 4 stroke in inappropriate terrain is a lot of fun and silliness. Honestly I find I’m smiling a lot more while riding.

    That terrain would be better suited to the soft map. That bike rips! Wind it out on the trails and it pulls hard. I set mine up with a 15L Safari tank and 13/45 gearing for the open road.( I have a commute to trails) The stock gearing (13/48) felt low, but I understand that some would run 13/50-52 for tight stuff.

    @@PNWEnduro Surprised I didn't see a welcome to the double Sherco club from SmoMoto. Nice bikes. Sounds great too. I started my riding on a Husky 310, then went to a Husaberg FE 350. The 350 had the same mapping as the XCF 350 so it had lots of power but the 310 had more snap and did feel relatively light. I think the Sherco 300 would be similar in feel as compared to 350s.

    Didn't stall it once in the video anyway, the more you ride it and get use to the clutch, throttle, engine compression the easier the techy terrain gets, all I've seen you ride is 2t, so you basically have to learn to ride a 4t, it took me a few months before I really felt comfortable on my 250fx on the trails, I put a throttle tamer on it which helped A LOT, and a 53t from a 51t sprocket, man it made the bike fun to ride, I know you know how to ride, so just give it some seat time and I think you will love it

    I really love the sound of this particular 4 stroke in this terrain. Not sure how to describe what I'm hearing but it's very responsive and happy sounding. I almost pulled the trigger on an Xtrainer but now I have to consider this machine! Do you have a minute to describe the differences between this and the Xtrainer? I'm really torn now. I understand the Xtrainer to have plenty of torque down low but for some reason in each and every video it sounds flat - not very alive. Unfortunately I cannot ride either bike in my area prior to purchase.

  • @PNWEnduro

    @PNWEnduro

    Жыл бұрын

    Very different bikes. XTrainer has lots of torque and a bit of a softer power compared to other 300 two strokes. It's also smaller and lighter. The suspension is a bit lacking if you want to go race-pace on it. The Sherco is heavier but you only feel that when you need to lift it, it's light feeling to ride. It will tire you our faster though. In my experience the Sherco brand is more reliable. The KYB suspension on the Sherco is far superior. Both bikes have a 6 month warranty, Sherco parts seem to be more readily available.

    I’m considering the 300F to be a companion for my FE501. The 501 is a blast on forest roads and 50” trail but not so much in single track and following my son. It runs hot. I have the option of a 23 300XC TBI, or this Sherco, or a GG EX300 or 350F. Decisions decisions. The XC300 TBI is so snappy right off idle that I feel like it might be too much bike for me. It’s way more aggressive than my 501 with an ECU and exhaust.

    Same frame, suspension etc. so the handling is similar. Less vibration on the 4t but I don't really notice it on either bike on the trails. For a four stroke, this doesn't have a lot of engine braking. If I was to ride mostly trails like this and faster ones the 300SEF would be my choice.

    Greg, I noticed that all of this video was down hill. How do you almost always find the down hill side of the mountain.😁. How does the 300 clime, do you have much flame out problem? I've found over the years with my 4t's that a Rekluse makes them a lot better in tight sections. No flame outs, no stalling and easier to keep traction while climbing. Great break in ride Greg! The Sherco sounds nice and grunty off the bottom and seems like some snap as revs go up. Quick question for you. Which bike do you feel is more work to ride, the 300 2-stroke or 300 4-stroke? I feel I'm "busier" on my 2-stroke 300's, a little less stable, which can be a little more work. On my YZ250FX, I feel I'm putting less input, if that makes sense, and more stability. But, the weight and rotating mass on the 4-stroke eventually takes more energy as opposed to the lighter weight 300 2-stroke.

  • @PNWEnduro

    @PNWEnduro

    Жыл бұрын

    I feel the 4T is more work to ride, changing directions on single track all day the feel of the rotating mass adds up. I had one situation on a trail where I had to put the font wheel up on a rock and them zap up from a standstill, definitely harder on the thumper. Still, as I get more seat time that will get easier.

    That bike is flying ... I can see the 2 stroke in you , to get the most out of it (here comes stupid advice don't get mad ) , you need to drop one gear, ride it more revs, don't pull the clutch in use the engine brake to stabilize the bike before the turn ride the read drag on that wheel. What I see you on that video is coasting down like a 2 stroke, the 4t ride more like a flow when 2 stroke it's a lot more aggressive between turns , 2 stroke need a reactive rider, 4 stroke needs a driver that thinks predicts and plans his next move . If you were riding in second gear in that video, drop a tooth on the front sprocket it's geared to high ... Nice woods
