Can we put the previous generation M2 Competition or CS in the mix? This new one is hideous and looks like a Lego kit, and now Ithe latest indignity is they are being made in Mexico.

Huge price difference. GTS 4.0 is basically 2x the price. Closest comparison to the GTS 4.0 would be the Emira. Closest to M2 would be Supra.

@@curtdragon Personally I would never spend $77k on an M2. It will depreciate like a stone. The GTS 4.0 will hold its value and only depreciate with mileage or poor maintenance/condition. They really are different cars too. One is front engine sedan. Modern BMWs are German muscle cars. Have more in common with Mustang, Camaro, Challenger. The other thing is new GTS 4.0 are very difficult to come by. I had an allocation but bought a 981 CS in perfect spec before my allocation came up. Saved me $70k. There are tons or new M2. I would probably go for the previous generation anyway. My two cents. Cayman is a nimble sports car that should hold it’s value. The M2 is modern muscle car with back seats. At nearly 4000lbs, it’s going to drive radically different. Best thing to do is drive both.

@@BurnsRubberdrive a Porsche? 😂 only way is to pay. They don’t just have them on the lot. Haven’t seen a coupe that has not been spoken for. But I agree these are two different cars to even compare. I don’t think there’s anything that compares to the Cayman or 911. Yes you can put it in a bucket but there’s no competition. I’d definitely get one but it’s like $50k above my budget. But at $80k I might be able to find a used 911. I’m not interested in older Cayman as my primary. Maybe later I’d get an older Cayman

@@curtdragon I own two Porsches. Cayman and Macan. MK7 GTI is my “daily” or “San Francisco” car. At least in my area, there’s an abundance of Porsche to test drive. No not new ones, but if you’re patient you’ll find plenty of cars to test drive. Regarding older Cayman’s, I have only driven a couple 987.1, I would say they are an incredible value at $25-$35k. You don’t need to work about bore scoring on the 2.7L. If you aren’t a manual driver, you might hate the transmission. A 2.7L with PDK 981 isn’t a bad choice either, but a big step up in price in the $40-$50k range. The 3.4L in good condition with lower miles are in the $50-$60k range. The GTS 4.0 drives very similar to my 981 CS. I think CPO Porsche are some of the best value cars you can purchase. You get a two year unlimited mileage warranty and an excellent condition car. I haven’t been impressed with 991.1 and 991.2 911. The manual isn’t as good and the car feels bigger less agile than the Cayman. Also don’t think they looks nearly as good as the Cayman.

Supra is an inferior BMW product to compare to a full M BMW.

Good review, BUT totally disagree. I have 23 M2, everytime I try my buddy's 21 caymen, it's effortless perfection. But yes, the M2 is the better hooligan, the power slides are amazing but when can you realistically do them without ending up on tic tic. Buyers remorse 😢.

You can’t drive either car near the limits and with the gearing the manual’s aren’t even a benefit. By the time you’re winding out 2nd gear, you’re above any posted limit. If you haven’t taken your M2 on the track, try it. You may be surprised. I think they are both great cars and it’s a stretch to compare them. Pricing is totally different, seating is totally different. They are both fun and fast, that’s where the similarity ends.

@JohnNick72 my reference points are from Summit Point, but agreed can't reach limits of either on the street. And they are not the same class of car.

On paper the M2 wins easily. But I’ll take the Porsche.

Its mind blowing how fast, great handling and practical new M2 is for almost half of cayman GTS pice.

I have both cars except my Porsche is a 2020 718 Spyder. If I were ordering one today I'd go for the GTS ragtop as my 718 top is not the best. Cheerio mate.

I am biased owning a 981 base, but I can see how the perfect rotation of the cayman can feel too perfect or the need to push much harder to get the rear moving. I also have a 16 BRZ which can be more playful at slower speeds, so I get why someone might like M2 more.

As an owner of a 981 Cayman S, the design is old, but it's timeless. I still get compliments bout it today from people I drive by. Some even asking what year it's from because the 981 in particular is just rare. They only made them from 2014 through 2016.

The front plate drilled holes on the M2 is a travesty! The states that have front plates just makes zero sense anymore in 2024.

The only 2 cars from both companies I would own.

40k can get you a track ready miata. Seems like a decent deal, M2 and Miata over a single 2 seater.

That is quite interesting. I’ve driven the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and it was quite clinical as you said. I’d be interested to know outright lap times around a track like Nurburgring as well

BMW makes too many errors modernizing the dash board most drivers just like the analog instruments simple instrument panel.

ide take the M2, for 40k less money, you can do a lot of fun mods to the M with 40k of extra money.

Interesting that toronto red on the M2 is actually more orange compared with the carmine red on the 718

It is, but there is something wrong with the colors in this video. It's exaggerating it for sure.

Porsche make awesome cars and I love that they cater to the enthusiasts and still offer a manual on a lot of their cars but the price is just getting ridiculous at this point. Cayman's cost what the 911 is supposed to cost.

Sometimes you hear that a car looks better in person than in its pictures. After seeing a few M2s in the wild, I can honestly say that's not the case with this car. At least you don't have to look at the M2 when you're driving it.

Was it just me or was the Rolex almost as captivating as the 2 impressive vehicles? And well-positioned on the right (wrong?) wrist to capture love from the camera.

I totally disagree, owned an M2C for a couple of years and then moved to a 718. The M2 felt childish and unrefined in comparison. Will never go back to BMW, it's Spyder RS for me, next

Cayman all day long. I’d take it on driving dynamics alone. But when you consider the looks, it’s an absolute drubbing in favor of the Porsche. That M2 offends the retinae.

The noise of a GTS 4.0 naturally aspirated flat 6 versus a turbocharged S58. Say no more. Oh that’s right, you didn’t say anything about the noise or anything substantive for that matter.

Need engine sound not techno music

Oh, and electric Cayman coming? Part of the whole point with Cayman is balanced handling with LIGHT WEIGHT. Cant wait to see if Porsche will deliver light weight with an electric. My money is on more weight. Hope I am very wrong..

In terms of Horsepower - Porsche usually do more with less.

Two words: heat soak. Granted it was over 40C at the track in the Okanagan, but dude had to come in every few laps to cool down.

The M2 loses on seating position alone, way to high, not even a sports car. Its an amazing sports sedan but very different than a sports car. 3800 lbs are the BMW engineers even trying anymore?

Which one do you want to be worth 70% less 5 years later?

I did not know MTC was sponsored by BMW... I own a '24 M2 and have driven a friends '18 Cayman. There is not comparison here, the Cayman is a pure drivers car, the M2 is a sport coupe. I will be looking for a used Porche with low milage in the near future....

I can clearly tell Porsche lovers are butthurt.💀I love both cars but I'd rather spend 40k less and get a more powerful engine, a better interior, 2 more seats at the back and more boot capacity. It's a no brainer really.

For all the people complaining about how these cars are two very different - I think that’s the point of the review and that’s why it’s interesting.

Great review, but for me Cayman is in different league ❤😊

The nurburgring time for a GT4 is 2 seconds faster than an M2. I suspect at least around that track the M2 is faster than a GTS by a hair since the GT4 is the track focused more powerful version of a GTS. Worst case; they're virtually identical, and you'd never notice on a street.

@@OsirisPL czuć że M2 ma dużo większą moc niż cayman i zdecydowanie łatwiej zamiata tyłem , ale nie tak chętnie jak stare M2. Cayman ma dużo fajniejszy układ kierowniczy i prowadzi się jak piórko w zakrętach, w M2 trochę czuć masę i układ kierowniczy jest mniej bezpośredni , ale auto też ma świetną przyczepność na obu osiach. G87 na duże lepsze zawieszenie niż stare F87, zdecydowanie lepiej wybiera, ale też świetnie trzyma auto w zakręcie. Cayman jest jak skalpelik M2 bardziej jak piła łańcuchowa. Na pewno jest wielu którzy powiedzą, że 718 cayman nawet z tym 2l silnikiem to fajniejsze auto , ale mi bardziej pasuje M2. Caymana wypożyczyłem na kilka dni potem pojeździłem M2 f87 jeszcze i kupiłem M2, a ostatnio zmieniłem na nowe M2. Najlepiej wypożyczyc i pojeździć.

"Polarizing" is a nice way of saying "hideous".

I haven’t driven either car so no comment on performance and practicality, but the M2 is the ugliest car on the road! The 718 is simply beautiful.

It’s simple if you are over 45 buy a Porsche it fits your age. If you are young and wild and virile then a get a BMW M2 or 3 or 4. Otherwise get a Prius.

Just goes to show everyone has different tastes, I prefer the look of M2 and I like it less than the previous better. But I respect your opinion, I am not a fan of that model. Now the 911 GTS or rs models…… for me there is no comparison.

I would like a Supra but her they cost same if you buy them new , 10 years old or 20 ears old... In fact they are more expensive used then new. I do not have the money to buy a new Supra, and used ones is crazy expensive.

Cayman would smoke the M2 on track.

Actually M2 is faster then Cayman GTS on the track. Check comparison between these two on Acelerados Chanel where Rubens Barrichello took them on a track and M2 was faster.
