2023 Polaris Prostar S4 Engine, is it right for you?

Спорт

Polaris has entered the under 100 hp four stroke engine category in snowmobiling with the Prostar S4 engine. I recruited some of the Longville snowmobile club to come out for a day of riding the new Prostar S4 and let me know there thoughts on the engine.
Is this the engine for riders who want a smooth, easy to ride, fuel efficient, and easy to maintain package that allows for more time on the trail? Watch and find out! #polaris #snowmobile #fun

    Thank you. I have trusted Polaris since day 1, long before I ever had a relationship with Polaris. But I can understand why people might question my opinion so I try to get other folks to join in on the reviews in hopes it helps people find the right sled for them. There are so many options in snowmobiling and they large investment towards your fun, my goal is to help educate people so they can find the right sled so they have the most fun when out snowmobiling. 👍🏼

    I currently run skidoo 4 stroke sleds and i have family that run the 900 ace renegade adrenaline models that produce about the same horsepower. I love that Polaris finally released a comparable sled, just wish i could demo one for a long ride to compare to the skidoos, the things folks that buy these look for is what is offered by both sleds, ease of throttle pull, good power from corner to corner, ability to stay warm, easy to read gages, and it seems most of all things, fuel mileage (my brother is constantly bringing it up at the pump). Good review, now find some current skidooers to try them and open some eyes!

    Hello Jim. I am anxiously awaiting my S4 as well. I have some video ideas for it so I look forward to that. Regarding the seat- I recently went for a 160 mile ride on the North shore of Lake Superior and I was letting the guys try my Boost Assault and something that stood out to me was the difference in in the seat from the one gentleman's 2022 XCR seat (very firm) to the softer seat of the new Boost. Sharon rides a 2021 650 VR1and when she tried the S4 for this video she also commented about how much better the seat felt on the S4 compared to her sled. I few weeks ago I rode with some folks from NY and they turned me on to the heated seats. They swear by them for the long cold days so I am working on getting one to test out. Under Steer- When We took the S4 out last year I didn't notice any understeer. Admittedly, I was not pushing it hard in the trails to see if it understeers. with the additional weight of the 4 stroke engine in the front and the smooth power which makes it harder to pull the front end up, it should keep the front pretty planted. If it becomes an issue for you, go up on carbide on the wear bars or C A skis that bite i bit harder

    In all honesty this sled is going after the Yamaha Viper riders who want a better ride with decent power. They don't expect it to be the first one across a lake. They want it to be a sled that rides like a Cadillac so long mile days are a dream and expect the motor to run trouble free for 20,000 miles. Levi will this do that?

New shocks and skis...my friend had it for a weekend and he commented about the similarities of the 2.. top end was not as high but ...low to mid range is amazing...0 - 100kph in under 4 much lighter....so when I go full throttle...my arms and hands get sore....my buddy hooked me up with a homemade kit that pairs my gloves with the handlebars........ I can now feel the "G" force like I'm cornering in a Porsche.. Anyone else have this Modified setup?

    I dislike polaris for a variety of reasons but the handling n smoothness of the ride really makes up for the flaws. Im a cat rider but cats have flaws as well but the reliability and how easy it is to work on em makes up for that. I used to ride ski doo but over the years i grew to hate the brand. If you're a mechanic you'll know what im talking about. But then again there's no such thing as a junk rig in the past few years. If polaris can slow down a bit n do more testing like arctic cat has then yeah polaris would be able to fix the hiccups on the sleds like sacrificing weight for strength n focusing on the moving parts doing brutal tests then i think polaris would have the strongest most reliable ride. 560lbs is still light and easy to whip around in the powder. Its just my opinion

    @LaVallee - i should have been more specific about the rides. I was talking about the 2stroke twin cylinder sleds. Yamaha has a perfect genesis 4stroke engine. Yamaha had the genesis 4 for a very long time but they've done many tweeks n finne tuning to make a very reliable engine. If ski doo and polaris were to team up they would definitely make an unstoppable dominating sled. Btw ski doo isn't a cheap sled its an insane sled, polaris as well. I've already said theres no junk sled all brands have made unbelievable snowmobiles for the past few years

    Yes it is heavier than a 2 stroke, like most every four-stroke is. Would it be fair to say that if it was of concern regarding how it handled, Sharron who was the smallest of the group would have noticed? If you are looking for a light feeling sled to race through the trail and ditch bang hard, this is not the engine.... Although I did give it a heck of a ditch banging rip trying to beat my nephew to my house who was on the road driving a truck. haha . Yes I would agree, but there are also many positives that come with four stroke engines. I remember when four strokes started becoming popular in dirt bikes. They were heavier but they were easy to ride. And they made big power. Now 4 strokes rule dirt bikes. snowmobiles have a much smoother power delivery in general compared to a dirt bike, and the 4 stroke makes it even smoother.

    For me personally, I prefer speed and aggressive riding so I have ridden a lot of sleds geared more towards that. Unfortunately this was the first time I experienced an under 100Hp four stroke snowmobile so it was harder for me to give it a rating due to not being able to compare it to an equivilent machine. Even though I thought the engine worked great, was very smooth, and very easy to control, I scored it a conservative 8 because of my lack of knowledge riding 4 stroke snowmobile engines.

    @@Levi_LaVallee so if you could pick any sled for free what would be your top 2 sled choices? I rode 30 years ago and thinking about getting a new sled and i don't want to make a financial mistake. • @Levi_LaVallee

    @Levi_LaVallee

    Жыл бұрын

    @@tomcat6933 That is very helpful to hear. I would definitely not recommend a S4 four stroke as I do not consider it quick or fast. The new sleds " rider forward" platforms are much better for taller riders than the sleds 30 years ago where you sat towards the back of the machine , which put a lot of stress on your back and put taller folks knees by the handle bars. Comfortable, fast, all day riding I would go Vr1. They are as smooth as they get on the trail and you can get a 650, 850, and turbo 850. To ball park speed from 650 to turbo - about 105 to 120+ Mph. And at 175lbs the suspension should work really well in stock form. IF you are looking for on and off trail riding I would recommend the Switchback assault 146. Works great for both on and off trail but not as smooth on trail and wheelies more than the Vr1. Another option that doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the VR1 has but is still great on the trail is the Indy XC. you can get a 650 or 850 in the XC so still very powerful. I like to jump things on my snowmobile and ride hard through bumps so I am a fan of the XCR model. Suspension is a bit stiffer so its not as comfortable on the trail in the bumps but it handles the bigger moguls and jumps better than the VR1. THere are a few different options with distinct differences, but a couple videos that may help would be - the XCR vs Vr1 and the VR1 650 first ride. tokzread.info/dash/bejne/gZidr9ifY5S6l5M.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/dKGWwbyFl7WZeM4.html Let me know if you have any other questions and hopefully I can help .

    @@PatriotBrad That is a great idea. When creating this video my goal was to show people how smooth the power is and how easy it is to control. The riders from the snowmobile club that helped with this video are riders that I thought would appreciate an engine like this. I have owned many 600s and 650s over the years and I believe the S4 would be great for any trail rider that is the 50-60mph top speed or less rider, that does not ride aggressively. The s4 is much mellower than 600 or 650 engines which are fast and accelerate hard if you hammer down. The 6's have become the engine for many wives due to the lack of engine options and the 600s and 650s are way more engine than what is needed for many riders. After riding the S4, I ordered a S4 for my wife and she has been driving 600s and 650s for the last few years and she is 28 now... again for the 9th time. haha

    The S4 is in the "under 100 HP" category so it is not considered a high performance engine. With that said it is geared towards riders with less experience, riders who are looking for smooth power, and more fuel economy for longer rides with out having to fuel up as often. Yes the riders who were with me like to ride at a slow pace than some, but me on the other hand I love riding fast and aggressive. With in the video i make reference to how this is not a high performance engine and it is for a rider who is looking for smooth delivery and easy riding.
