I own this exact car, but the ‘22. Only difference I can see is the badging on the back and the GT is stitched in black on the seat in the ‘22. This is a really fun car, and I wouldn’t go without the GT1 package. The 360 camera alone is worth it, but the ventilated seats in the summer are crucial. I paid MSRP back in March ‘22. It does produce 290hp in sport mode & sport+, the normal mode is a little throttled, but in sport the steering gets heavier, and it holds downshifts if you aren’t in manual. The upgraded Bose audio is also a great feature of the GT1. All in all, highly recommend, if you can find one. I had to do a factory order. Took exactly 30 days to deliver it.

Got the Ebony black with chestnut brown interior and the GT1 package - it screams BUSINESS! I can’t believe the value set you get with this vehicle for the price. I love it!

I have this exact car, a 2023 K5 GT - GT1 Package in Wolf Gray, but with the black seats with red trim. Coincidentally, I'm also in New Jersey. So far I have just 800 miles on it. As you touched on in the video, the one thing this car really needs is a limited slip or even better, an all-wheel drive option. I can only speculate that Kia didn't want it to be too close in performance to the Stinger (which ironically has now been discontinued). You'll definitely get quite a bit of wheel spin if you're dropping the hammer at traffic lights, but even so, it's very fast off the line, and it's a rocket under most other conditions. The suspension is great, and in Sport Plus mode it handles like a sports car (sort of). I love the 8-speed “wet” dual clutch transmission that's only available in the GT. It has virtually seamless, lightning fast shifts and is very smooth. I am a bit mystified at some of the strange changes that have been made from the Optima. I also have a 2016 Optima SXL. For some reason the trunk on the K5 has no interior handle to close the trunk (something virtually every car has). You actually have to grab the paint or the decklid spoiler to close the trunk. Also, the door pocket cup holders, which were functional on the Optima are now strangely angled slots that will only allow for a small water bottle (that you have to keep the top on). Lastly, although it appears on the Kia website that you can order a 2023 K5 with the HomeLink rearview mirror, you actually can't. The part is only "technically" available for 2021-2022 K5s in the Kia parts catalog. The 2023 K5 is identical except for the logo so it makes no sense. Yes, those parts will fit, and you can install it using a 3rd party installer, but so far we've found no dealer that will do it (and cover it under warranty) since the part is technically not for the 2023 model. Honestly, at this price point, an auto-dimming mirror with a garage door opener should be standard. I realize some of this may sound like nitpicking, but it's my honest feelings after owning the vehicle for two months. As a whole, I love the car and the minor issues I've mentioned are just that, minor. Mostly, it's a ton of fun to drive and it looks great.

I traded my 2020 Optima in for this 2023 K5 Ebony Black GT1 and noticed the same things you did immediately. I was BAFFLED that it didn’t have a trunk handle to close the trunk! And no garage programming in the mirror even after you pay the extra $4200 for the GT1 package is criminal. But after all that, those are very minor for what you get in value and performance. It’s just a fun car to drive all-around

This car is NOT made to do full pedal launces from a complete stop, you'll be changing your front tires every 6 months. It's made for those who know how to use just enough gas pedal pressure for a smooth start off the line. As well, it's a highway cruiser, not a stop light racer.

Missed a shot of the sunroof fully opening! Probably one of the best parts of the car.

You didn't talk about why the GT1 is different from the GT. There are a bunch of features that separate the two. The projector lights, the bose sound system, the profile/memory seats, etc. I wanted to see those options as I'm thinking of trading my K5 GT up for a GT 1 package.

I saw no value in adding the GT1 package to my GT. I wanted the Bose system, but I can live with the stock sound and have money to upgrade. The other bells and whistles would be kind of nice to have but not for $4k more, IMO.

The 2.5L Turbo engine is literally worth the $4200. It’s fast and sounds great - just a joy to drive. Don’t forget the upgraded suspension and improved GT breaks. The Bose sound system and ventilated and memory seats are amazing as well. At $37k it’s an absolute bargain sports sedan.

um, you still get the engine and brakes without the gt1 package. upgraded lights and safety features arent worth the 4k . the bose system isnt much of a upgrade. it actually makes it harder to replace the soeakers for your own. just get the gt and put your own speakers in

@@wagdogg2261 oh you’re right - my bad! I didn’t realize they made the engine or brakes standard. So you’re right, if you don’t need all the technology and safety pack and just want performance that’d be a nice way to save. For me personally, all that wrapped up with the bigger engine is what made me want this car. I drive on the highways and freeways a lot so the tech and safety has been so nice.

I am ready to buy one of these but cant actually find one in stock and not marked up with a bullshit "market adjustment".

Amazing review! Although I’ll never own a new car, just someone’s old car for the save monthly payment, I still like watching.

Hello Chabby! Just got myself the 2024 Kia K5 GT without the GT1 Package and the only thing I'm slightly irritated with is not having the BOSE audio. Still have to put it through its paces but mechanically it's All there. Love it and the pumped in sounds. Figure I'll be able to work with the open differential but would prefer limited or AWD BUT I think i can get it handled easily enough. Great car and love what kia has been doing.

Is there a difference in the EX premium vs the GT1 package? Like does the GT1 package include everything that comes in the EX premium?

the ex premium has a completely different engine, the gt is a 2.5L Turbo. you can only add the GT1 Package to the K5 GT (Not the EX and not the GT-Line). It has a 12 speaker bose, heated and cooled seats, 19 inch wheels and other things

The ONLY thing this car needs is AWD. It would be a perfect sedan with that. I have the 2024 K5 GT right now, and if they ever do an AWD version, I'm trading it in that day. lol

When you say “wired car play “, are you saying to listen to your music from your iPhone you have to use a wire? Because my 2023 Forte GT doesn’t require a wire.

I prefer a RWD biased car, so I’d go Stinger GT Line. Plus this is the last year for the Stinger.

You can pay 37K for a brand new one. Or you could get 1 with 12000 miles on it for 30k 2022 or 21k.

But you don’t get 100k powertrain warranty. It go to 60k for 2nd owner and up.

@@Djrulez203 That's true but you have a power train warranty that's supposed to last a 100000 miles. And that's the value. I can tell you from experience with Kia's I have a serento that has 200000 plus. I wish my kid was 16 I would give it to him.

@@Shelter93 oh I know my family and I had so many Kia’s. But ye if you buy a used one it’s not 100k powertrain warranty unless it’s certified preowned. I had a 2013 Kia optima SXL motor went out at 53k but they have recalls on those and they replaced it at no cost and even provided a rental. They will last if you take care of it well surely. We had a 2008 Kia RIO with 180k miles still ran great but we sold it to get another Kia.

Are these all front wheel drive, or all wheel drive?

Nope. You have to put it into Sports or Sports+ mode. That said, I regularly drive without Sports mode off.

I met regular gas. I figured it out. That's the gas mileage on regular that's the horse power on regular .as you say in sport plus.

Good point. Primer with a bit of clear coat. Still looks' decent. I like the more graphite look if they had it.
