2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz - DM Review
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Hyundai Santa Cruz is one of only a handful of compact unibody trucks in the current market. We like its edgy styling, and zesty 4 cylinder turbo motor.

You guys are savages. I had a limited Santa Cruz for over a year now. I can't really think of any major complaints. Lack of physical buttons for climate control and radio is no problem. I use the buttons on the steering wheel and use voice commands instead of pressing other buttons. Bluetooth works wirelessly overall, UNLESS you only need to connect it for Android Auto. I use other apps and it's not an issue. I guess I'm a weirdo though and go for different things. I have built in navigation too on my limited Santa Cruz so no need for Android Auto and addresses could be typed in easily and wirelessly through the blue link app.
One can do truck like work while the other is more of a lifestyle type vehicle. Both have their place yet it's the Maverick that checks more boxes for what I'd want for the money. Your reviews have really opened my eyes on what the Maverick has to offer.

The Cruz n maverick are good in their respective corners. Initially I was pro maverick and if I was single and 25y.o I'd probably get a maverick. However the Santa Cruz fits my current and future life style and works best with my family. Just more luxurious with enough truck too handle the odd truck duties. So that's what I got. On paper it's spec's are better then maverick other then the bed and gas mileage I definitely know what you mean about the dual clutch. I wouldn't even entertain the thought of towing or pulling a tree with a Santa Cruz as much as I love the vehicle, I just don't trust the transmission.
re clip the strap to the top clip vs the bottom clip and it won't catch 👍🏾😉 @13:15

Yeah thats what I thought, perhaps the reviewer isn't as sharp as he lets on.....
Two things. You mentioned the gauges being too bright. You can set to a specific gauge color no matter the drive mode. I also noticed that your model either didn't have the turn signal cameras turned on or fot some reason did not have them.

The turn signal cameras are only available on the very top end (Limited) trim, not SEL Premium

I use the "cube" gauge cluster lol. with the awd model in the middle.
I got a sel base Santa Cruz, because I didn't want the dual clutch, plus I'm poor. A lot of the little annoyances like the digital hvac and wired carplay aren't an issue with the lower trims. I Only wish I had that turbo.
awesome video
Put a carabiner clip on the strap and hook it to the side so it won’t get caught. Stand directly behind the cover when closing it instead of standing off the the side. Makes it a lot easier. I believe the smart mode is equal to the eco mode.
I am loving this Santa Cruz. I had a 2020 Hyundai Kona AWD Turbo. It didn’t have remote start on the key, it could only be done through the Hyundai app. Once remote started the hazards would flash the ENTIRE time the car was running on remote start. I tried researching to make sense of it. The best I could find is that it’s some sort of law in Korea. Hyundai does struggle with the remote start. I don’t understand it. Also, the climate control does have some Auto defrost setting. It made me crazy in my Kona until I figured it out. 😂

yeah my santa cruz had the "auto dehumidify" which would have the vents on blowing air even when the climate was completely off. so glad i figured out what it was cuz i was like "WHY IS IT STILL BLOWING AIR" lol

Fun fact, it does have it on the key. It's just hidden

A law in S. Korea wouldn’t keep them from turning off the hazards in the U.S. I had a Kia built in Korea and it didn’t do that foolishness.
Firstly, that Ford Contour,🔥 I remember riding in one as a rental for a quick family road trip in ‘95. - But that Santa Cruz definitely catches my attention, as does the Maverick. I looked at one while getting my Sonata NLine’s first service a month ago, and found it to be such a cool truck. I definitely agree w/Chris … and been telling my car friends the same re: the DCT issue, haven’t had any issues w/mine, even using Sport & SportPlus modes consistently on highways gapping others. I believe the transmission has to “be driven” and “stretched out”, but that’s just my personal opinion.

SVT Contour was the bomb back in the day!
Such a nice vehicle...looks and feels premium compared to the cheaper Mav. The comfort, bed trunk, warranty, and better towing capacity across the line (but especially on the base engine) means the Santa is also more livable and useful across trim levels. Once a hybrid comes along I can't see any compelling reason for the Mav but I know Ford sells a lot of them.
I bought a Santa Cruz because a truck bed works better for me than an SUV hatch. I can take my grill, smoker, bikes, and other dirty, smelly stuff around. It bugs me that every review says it won't be reliable. The only other option in this class is a Ford. I've owned 3 Fords. a '91, a '13, and a '19. Each one was progressively worse. The last 2 I ditched at 80k miles, and 50k, respectively because bits were literally falling off. Be fair, call out Ford's build quality. Maybe the Maverick is built like an '88 F150, or is it built like any Escape? I bet it's built like the cars they don't make anymore.
That double clutch transmission is from what I have been hearing a terrible design. If they ever swap it out for a more reliable one I'd buy one for sure

Very nice pick up.. Hope available in the Philippines...
Didn't see camera side view when they pressed the turn signal light. Did Hyundai take that off for the 2023 model?

It is still present in the 2023 limited at least. I love having that feature. Also the 360 top down parking view is great.

The only true problem I have with my Santa Cruz is the lack of extra storage and extra cupholders.
Why are you jumping up the bed to close the tonneau cover? So easy to use from the ground. Lol
I looked for a maverick for a year, if you find one they were priced 4 or 5 thousand over invoice. A lariat in the ford is just a few thousand less , but if one buys a warranty to equal a santa cruz same price at that point. I purchased a new Santa cruz limited because of no availability of ford. I did drive a maverick, does not drive or handle any where close to the cruze. The ford has to be the cheapest interior and ugliest ever made. I do though worry about the 2.5T and DC transmission, at least a very long warranty. If you dont like the cover remove takes 5 min.I will say at 250 miles so far I love the cruz.
The app tells you that its started after remote starting.
13:41 splendid view
Would like to buy one, however with the DCT wet clutch transmission I'll pass. My granddaughter owned the Ford Focus with the DCT and had nothing buy problems and had it replaced twice and it still has the jerkiness at when driving. Why won't the Koreans change from the DCT to their conventional eight speed transmission in this vehicle with the 2.5T engine?
Test Drive up Hill?
I AM THE BUTTONS AND KNOBS GUY BUT THE WHINING ABOUT NO VOLUME KNOB BY EVERYONE IS TIRING. I HAVE A VOLUME KNOB AND I NEVER USE IT. STEERING WHEEL HAS VOLUME, MUTE AND ON/0FF BUTTONS.

You can turn the volume up and down on the steering wheel with a "knob"
How long is the 🛌?
One mechanic who reviewed the 2023 Santa Cruz Limited said that Hyundai made a big mistake when they put a DCT in the turbo charged engine. He said it’s not reliable (the DCT) & is bad in bumper to bumper traffic. Any thoughts?
The abundance of piano black trim on the interior (on the turn signal stalk, really?) makes this a no for me.
FIRST!
Video of 987 Kms?
Got my limited for 38.5K
Costs way too much for any of the decent trims.
Hyundai & Kia FWD step auto transmission cannot handle the torque of the 2.5t engine.
The Santa Cruz definitely has more "luxury" vs the Maverick. The interior is definitely higher quality than Ford. But the Maverick is simpler and works decent. But that bed is pretty laughable. It could only be used for really small things and it's definitely more of a fashion/design statement and not a practical one. At least with the Maverick you get cheap, practical and should be more durable and cheaper to own in the long term. Especially with the DCT for the Santa Cruz. I can only imagine these would have a lot of issues if more people actually used them for 'truck' things.
6:49. HYUNDAI AND KIA HAVING MAJOR ISSUES WITH THEIR DCTs? ARE WE TALKINGTHE NEW 8 SPEED DCT 0R THE OLDER 7 SPEED DCT ? IF YOU HAVE ANY REFERNECES TO THE NEW 8 SPEED HAVING MAJOR ISSUES PLEASE POST LINK. THANKS MATE.

Major issues ? You mean a few of them needed a software update. Yeah MAJOR
@wbwayne8887
Жыл бұрын
@@mharro88 Before Hyundai was able to find the problem, there were multiple owners that had catastrophic 8spd wet dct failures. That is kind of major. All you have to do is search DCT on any Santa Cruz forums and you will see that. This affected any Hyundai/Kia models equipped with the 8spd wet dct. I don't believe there have been any issues, since Hyundai technicians were able to resolve the issue, but 🤷♂️ The 7spd dry DCT has been nothing but trouble for them. Just not a very good design execution.
@mharro88

@@wbwayne8887 zero issues here in Australia or Korea with the 8 speed. Sounds like a u.s issue. Don't they build the transmission locally there? I tried the 7 speed DCT in the n-line and it's very responsive. If you read online close enough you'll find issues everywhere you look with every manufacturer
@JT-fq2bl
Жыл бұрын
All 3 of the transmissions have issues, and most of the issues is derived from the US division. The 6 speed dry Eco DCT is fixed by pairing it with the hybrid tech, the 7 speed dry Eco DCT is yeeted due to US drivers not knowing how to drive it properly, and the 8 speed wet DCT is getting the kinks worked out of it (it's a first gen).
@wbwayne8887
Жыл бұрын
@Michael Harrison Yes, and I believe you're right about the US manufacturing issue. Normally the 7spd dry dct starts out fine, it's not until thousands of miles later that owners complain of excessive clutch wear, slipping transmissions, and general drive ability smoothness and increasing noise.
That Santa cruz’n joke was wasted on a gen z-er, what a shame
That flickering dash would drive me nuts

So' they are warning of a short on the BED!!!! Are you kidding me? So' you can't get the bed dirty because you can't power wash it? LOL What a piece of crap. Maverick all the way!
