    Thank you MishMashMoto!! As a result of your great video I was inspired to test some different main jet sizes in my new 150L. I routinely ride low mountainous roads from sea level up to 2500’ 😅elevation. I rigorously tested 3 different size main jets; .105, .110, and .115. Note that my spark plug remained clean with all three of these sizes. In the end the .110 gave me the best and most linear power curve, acceleration and speed. The explanation of the results would take too long, but suffice it to say that in stock form, the .115 at higher RPM’s cannot draw enough O2 thru the small throat of the stock carburetor to generate an efficient burn. The reason the spark plug remains clean with the .115, is that, the engine does burn efficient enough thru the majority of the lower RPM ranges to clean up any temporary fouling.

    I totally agree and found the same with my testing also. We ride between 200 & 600’ most of the time and the 115 keeps the engine temps down.

    Link is in the description if you want to order the whole set of jets I did. This was an improvement in torque and helped my normal cruise speed go up slightly. Top speed is about the same but the engine runs smoother and much cooler now. I would recommend this mod if your operating below 2,500’ elevation, a 110 main from 2,500’-5,000’, stock 105 above 5,000’. After more testing I will do a better review later.

    Nice video. Im at 900' and went with 110 and 38 pilot. The larger pilot allowed easier starts below 40f, but did not like to idle and smelled really rich. Went back to 35 pilot and kept the 110. I also ditched the white plastic funnel around the jet. It was just sitting in the bottom of the bowl when I pulled off the carb. If I gutted the air box and pulled the spark arrestor, it may have idled alright with the 38. But I'm not ready to do that yet.

  • @MishMashMoto

    @MishMashMoto

    9 ай бұрын

    👍🏼 I plan to try the 110 myself tomorrow and see what I like better down near sea level. The needle is not adjustable on this bike but can be shimmed. I could also profile or “taper” the needle myself but that won’t help anyone duplicate my results. I have some shims leftover from tuning another bike a few months ago and may try a shim or two tomorrow and see what happens. Someone will make an aftermarket specifically tapered needle and/or add one to their “jet kit” at some point but for now we are just tuning as best we can with what we all have to work with. Honda/Keihin already did a great job with this carburetor from the factory. I would imagine the CRF150F parts may fit (maybe not 🤷🏼‍♂️). Keep sharing the knowledge everyone!

Then being good enough to work straight thru and/or the editing, you've got all of it pretty well figured out. That's like being good at 3 jobs in one sitting, KUDO's. About the bike...do you ride this or does another person ride her? I ask b/c of the suspension setup, if there is one on this bike? You're bigger than me & I wonder if this bike handles the weight well? There are some other Honda's that the front forks can be directly swapped out, if needed? Doing that will reduce exhaust back pressure and will change the mixture (and/or more accurately the air/fuel charge amount in the cylinder) to some degree. Should help upper RPM engine performance especially if properly tuned with more fuel. We just don’t prefer loud bikes so will leave ours intact.

    Hey, if I’m under 1,000ft (850) do you recommend stepping down in pilot jet? I have 115 main and 32 pilot currently in testing only because whenever I would rev match on downshifting it would cut off on me and I also found another issue with having a kinked vent hose. Every time I go to start the bike, it starts up right away, no choke needed. So far it’s great, very powerful too but I’m noticing a rich spark plug but looking forward to see how 115 35 will do for you and what you think about it 👍

  • @MishMashMoto

    So far I like it much better then stock. I have not had either one of our bikes cut off or any negative issues. I do think it is just a tiny tad rich from looking at the fuel line on the spark plug porcelain but I am OK with that. Maybe try a 110/35 combo. I think the 35 pilot is the way to go on this bike but more testing could change my mind.

    We left our bikes airbox and exhaust alone while we ran the stock carb. We used the 115 main jet and stock pilot from sea level to about 6,000'. One could also use 35/110 or 38/110 or 38/115 with carburetor idle mixture adjustments (you will need to remove the plug covering the adjustment screw and have a "single D" type adjustment tool for this).

    If you're in a lower elevation area, I would suggest the 115 for best starting and low/midrange power. Go with a 105-110 main if you're going to ride over 3,000 feet most of the time. We have road tested it from sea level to around 5,800' on the 115 jet. The idle fuel mixture is also adjustable. Im in sd cali and did the 115 and it made the problem worse. Im at 690 elevation. It made the bike bog at low speeds lol. Before i was bogging at higher rpms do i need to go down from the 105 or would a 108 be a better option ? Man this 150 carrys my fat 190 lbs like 45mph lol its a good thing its my first bike and only 3000 bucks... 😅

    Order the jets with the link in the description, top end is about the same as stock (engine runs cooler and smoother with more torque in 5th for hills. So far I have tested it at around a 200’ elevation.

    Have you run the bike enough to see if leaving in the stock idle jet and going the 1:15 is that working out and is it still too rich or to lean.

    We put about 50 miles on each bike today. It works pretty good and better then stock. The spark plug looks about right also. A 110 may also be a good choice for higher elevation users. Our only testing was done around 200’ elevation today. We are happy with it at this altitude.

    @@MishMashMoto I'm going to try the 35115 myself today because it's still a little rich and I was going to run it and then just shut it off pull over and get a true read on it because that's the way that I was taught to take a spark plug read is that you run it shut it off pull over pull the plug but I believe that the pilot jet the idle jet still too big so I'm going to try the combination that you're working and see if that makes a difference and I really appreciate the response and you just sharing this I'm a long time motorcycle rider My dad accustomed bike builder for years he just passed away in June at 89 and I'm a welder a fabricator I've had so many bikes I can't even count them and worked really hard to have it all this bike I got for fun it's not about how fast it goes or any of that of what I used to always be concerned about the bike is really fun and I just want to get it to not be lean and try and get a little more out of it just for the highway issue cuz I have highways out here that I have to ride on and traffic's terrible because everybody likes to push one another and if I didn't have to worry about traffic speed I wouldn't change anything on the bike but I think that this is a good move so I'm going to try the 35 pilot and then the 115 on the main and thank you again for that I really hope that you have a blessed day and enjoy your weekend.

    Pros: It has more torque, especially when accelerating hard or going up hills. Engine runs much cooler going down the road at speed. Should help engine longevity also. Cons: You will burn more fuel (we dropped about 10-15 miles per gallon). It did not increase the bikes top speed.

    @@pmmccrea on longer trips my legs went from getting very hot through my pants and my riding overpants to being able ride it in shorts. There is a ton of heat reduction and also through the exhaust system you can tell there is less heat. The spark plug also has some color to it (was just bright white which is lean).

    @@pmmccrea We have not obtained a good shop manual as of yet. Great River Honda and a few “in the know” subscribers gave us all the correct clearances and other specifications. I have rebuilt and tuned motorcycle and aircraft engines for most of my career and that helps me share some little tips about these bikes also. I normally prefer to do things in a more analytical method with AFR, EGT, and CHT probes but on these simple carbureted single cylinder engines the spark plug really tells you everything you need to know.

    Depends on your dealership (most don’t care as rejetting is a common thing to do). I think it’s worth it mainly to keep the engine temps down at higher speeds. If your just using yours as a low speed local trail bike then just leave it stock as the power gain is like 5-10%. We did it mainly for engine longevity (won’t burn up the exhaust valve). If your under 3,000’ elevation and run it at 50MPH or more I would say do it.

  • @MishMashMoto

    @MishMashMoto

    2 ай бұрын

    Two reasons. First off, I absolutely love Yoshimura products! ❤️ 1. We wanted to do as much testing as possible (in basically stock form) on these bikes to determine reliability (they pass with an A+). 2. We had a use for these bikes over the past year where the extra noise wasn't desirable to us. That's become less of a factor for us today, so we may decide to do that at some point.
