yeah toyota tuned that b58 pretty nice. but i mean.. you get half a car more, a honda engine (that could push out more but oh well), and i still cant believe people forget type R's arent a straightline car.. all the work they put into the car was to make a FWD vehicle outperform AWD/RWD cars on a track. Me personally, i respect them for sticking to their roots. really best of both worlds with these cars.

Or if they did, then BMW is benefitting as well, but the BMW M#40i cars have seemingly the exact same tune for the B58, and those predate the Supra. That BMW engine has much more potential than the CTR's 4 banger, so ultimately like you said it comes down to wanting more space and still having pretty dope performance

@@johnmorrison8351 I own a Accord 2.0t and it fits my lifestyle currently. The CTR back seat head room with the hatch is cramped for some folks. I get the progression, but the Supra 3.0t seems to be a nice bump if you don't need a back seat. If you do need a back seat, then the Type-R is a good in between for the time.

Roll race would be interesting, but from a dig the supra would take it easily. Sam did a decent job here with that 0-60 of 5.3, not an easy car to launch for sure. Supra 2.0 is well under 5 seconds though and low 13s in the 1/4. I'd like to see what my bmw 230i would do against a type-r, I'm at around 13.5 so I think I would win, but type-r should be quicker with a great driver.

Not to mention straight lone acceleration is a killer for cars. Always rolling start from 2nd gear then you can see the gap is closer. I myself never try to get roped into traffic light drag races just to protect wear and tear on my car

Not sure the Supra comes up short on anything but a back seat, and 4 doors when comparing the two imo! Supra sounds much better, and is faster everywhere including a track! I like the Type R a lot, but unlike kids on the internet I realize the Supra is the more enjoyable driver's car, and faster on a track!

@@germanengineering204 The suspension in the Type R stock for stock is much better than the Supra. Driving them both on the tail of the dragon and the Type R is much better around all of the turns. Both cars are amazing but also having the 6 speed in the Type R makes it a equally if not better driving experience.

I owned a Type R before my 6MT Supra. One thing the Type R will always have over the Supra is how smooth and crisp the engagement is between gears - meaning it’s satisfying to drive no matter the commute. I also miss the low insurance rates, lol. The one thing I don’t miss is the FWD wheel hop. Both great cars.

With type s hitting the floors and type r ramping up production, if you can wait you can get one at msrp or close. I only deal with msrp dealers, this was the case for my gr86 golf and type r which i am waiting for. Not in a hurry since i got 2 cars rotating back to back as daily. I am hoping honda fixes some race hard suspension issues after the facelift before I get mine

Coworker owns a type R and lied to me saying his civic cost $70K, another guy at Autozone said the Rivian T1 cost $200K, had another guy pull up beside me in an older BMW claiming it had 800hp but clearly sounded stock when he pulled off. Don’t know why some people feel the need to lie😂

The secret is more hp but not only that if you look at a dyno the tq numbers are impressive they peak very early in the rpm and then basically flatline for the rest of the band while hp increase. Easily 400 plus hp car stock.

When i had an old 94 supra tt with down pipe, smoke mit 3000gt vr4 like it stepped on the break during a rolling race similar to this test

as expected. The supra is just fast and underrated. Civic stood no chance at all. Civic is fast for the category of car its in, the price is a different issue.

How so? I testsdrove them too and i thought they been great fun daily cars. Loved the whole formula of the type r being super practical but also great inputs and canyon behavior. Tested also the integra type s and i liked it even more . A s2k would be probably also an disappointment to you since it would completely fail in this drag race bs

Hard to justify over $40k for a FWD car. I don’t care how well it performs on a track, it’s still FWD. That being said, this race should’ve been between the 2.0 Supra and the CTR. Of course the 3.0 is going to rinse the CTR, it was never a question.

The supra is faster but the new type R is one of the most beautiful looking cars ever made

Stay tuned, next video we we'll see if a McLaren can take down the Smart Fortwo.

I know you are trying to warm up the tires, but you should edit your videos to where drag is first, then roll.

I own both. The type R when you get over your goofy fan boi love, is subpar build quality from the materials, the gap, the paint, the seals all look like they were cut with dull scissors….etc. The Supra you get a more mature , raw, commanding driving experience. The Supra IMO is leagues above. The Type R handles superb though. To explain it is : the Type R feels like a tuned boy racer civic. Where as the Supra feels like a competent Grand tourer.

13.9 for the honda...Best time with my g37 was 13.6. And it cost 3 time less. Seems slow to me.

These two cars are literally my dream garage. I own a Type R and it’s not just about the speed. It’s fast for what it is but it’s also about the driving experience. Everything is perfect. Shifter, steering, clutch, seats, seating position. The whole car is telepathic. It’s the best drivers car I’ve ever owned and I’ve had many 500+ HP cars. The Supra is great, can’t wait to get one

I own both cars although it is FK8 instead of FL5 and my Supra is auto. The Supra feel just so much more quicker. TypeR handles very well but Supra is just as good. I normally drive FK8 more cuz it is more practical but both are real fun cars to drive all day long.

Love the matchup but we all know the Z4pra will win. Plus these Hondas are costing $45k in the US…madness! Sam, you mention a tune is all it would take for the Honda but the Z4pra is even more tunable. My m240i with the same engine is at 530 crank with a few bolt ons and jb4.

@@MKu64 The Supra is a true GT (grand touring) car and in 6MT it adds that extra engagement. The Automatic is slightly faster 0-60 and also a good option. The Supra handles too well that it makes me feel too confident. Take off traction control and you add an extra layer of fun. My biggest complaint with it is the cramped space. You get used to it and when you do the driving position feels like a cockpit, but I'm not sugarcoating it that at first the inside feels a bit tight. Anyone over 6 foot tall would have a hard time in it.

@@MKu64 The MKV auto or 6MT is not perfect. No car is. It's always pros and cons and what people are ok looking past. Someone tall can't look past the cramped space in the MKV. It's an extremely fun car to drive and it's my weekend fun car not my daily. I can't wait to add a bigger turbo, unlock the ECU, downpipe, e85 and this car is going to fly. I think the Type R has more space in regards to comfort or seating position.

This must be how those sti’s felt when they tried to race me 🤣

The Civic couldnt even stay in the frame, literally being beat out da frame 😂😂😂😂

So much to say and most of it has been said. I always love the argument that with a tune the results would be different, as if it's not possible to tune the other car as well. Tune vs tune the Supra still womps the Civic. I still don't get the Civic, I would not put my family in that bouncy, high strung thing. So if it were only going to be a car for me then why not get a truer sports car, like a Supra, Z, etc. If I did have to put my family in something it would be more in line with a m340i. Still more speed than the Civic, and 3 levels higher in refinement and class. Yes I'm in my mid 40's but it's us in this bracket that are making the 50K decision every day. Add to the fact that I can't buy the Type R, and if I could it's over MSRP I would never so much as step foot on a Honda lot for them to try and woo me. Like I said I just don't get the Civic, especially at that price point.

Absolutely no comparison. I had a manual M140i with 470bhp and I knew exactly how this was gonna go! 😂 Also, a tune on that Civic wouldn't make enough of a difference. The Supra would still walk it.

That b58 though. Love it in my x3.

The last gen ctr would be better matched. It has better top end. The 2.0 would be comparable to an si or non-si

That Supra is way too quick for a Honda. No Hope.

The dealership mark up on the new civic Type r is insane 😳, i saw a blue one with 10 miles on it , the dealership was asking 53k for it

I would love to see how the Manual Supra runs against the Lotus Evora GT. They are pretty even.

The civic got slaughtered lol.

I laughed so much when you said this can be fixed with a tune. Dude that engine in the Supra will go down in history as the most tunable engine BMW has every produced. You can tune it for over 600 HP without worrying about engine damage. The B58 and the S58 are epic engines.

Honda needs to lower their pricing on these cars they look nice but that’s about it, the last true type R were the 99-2000 ITR.

My tuned accord 2.0t gave a 3.0 supra a better race the other day than this type-r ,I was surprised lol.I still lost but it was much closer than this.

doesn´t matter the result, the Civic Type R is the best in his class.

@@saltmaker5353 yes Ok for the money is the Elantra N a better offer and you have more fun to drive it with all the pops and bangs and crackles from the exhaust but if you want a nearly perfect performance FWD car for the track ? I would say that the Type R is a little bit better as the N.

Well I did not expect that at all.

No friend, it wasn't 6 cars, it was vans that took that supra out of that poor Civic, that Civic is too expensive for how little it walks and much less value the new supra, which is a fast and cheap car for its segment

Pretty much an 75-85whp dif is expected if the type r had intake tune or even a dp added the race woudk be about even

I love how they don’t show the full race with no cuts 😂

why not 2.0 version vs the civic?

Maybe the civicR vs a gr86 would be a better race

😞😞😞😞7k usd difference in actual price, but in reality, virtually around 20k usd difference in performance and appearance, with supra in the winning direction

It's crazy the CTR transaction prices are higher than the Supra MSRP smh 🤦 and the Integra type s costs just as much as a Supra....alot of money for fwd economy cars no matter good how they handle
