Will be a similar embargo in a few years time when Honda announce they're leaving the Australian market. Honda have had a brain injury since the GFC, their vehicles are irrelevant, and the consumer has much better options. I bought a Honda Accord Euro brand new in 2005. I wouldn't even bother looking at their vehicles now.

I had a Golf R before this, and you nailed it, Golf was a very capable and comfortable car but felt abit like driving a go kart. The driving experience on the Type R is unmatched in its class IMO.
Great review
Love the magpie sounds in the background at the start of the video.
Great review and it looks like Honda have done well to improve on the previous model. Imo the cost is too much, but I feel the same about most of these premium hot hatches. A Nissan Z is perhaps more tempting as at least it's rwd and 6 cylinders. Kia Stinger or now Genesis G70 offer similar practicality with rwd and 6 cylinders too. Not that it matters much. Honda Australia are content selling minimal cars a year and hence there's a near 2 year waiting list on these Type R's anyway.
Looks so much better than last gen. It’s smooth and proportional
No yet, wondering between CW vs Black. Thx for the great review👍

This is a great car . Well done Honda. If I could buy one tomorrow and drive it out the door without waiting for $73 K , I’d be in. That’s not the case though sadly. Those who are comparing Honda to Hyundai are dreaming. Hyundai are one of the most unreliable cars on the road after a few years, they have a host of mechanical gremlins that rear their head as the K’s go up. My son has been a mechanic for over 10 years now, and he says steer well clear of Hyundai at all costs. They may be ok for a few years, but then the troubles start.

Myabe I'm getting older but I couldn't see myself driving something like this at my age. Coincidentally, and perhaps a little ironic, this new design reminds me of the Kia Stinger from the sloped fast-back design accentuated by the Stinger like tail lights. The Kia may not be a track monster but it scoots. V6 Bi-Turbo power at the ready. Best of all, it is pretty cheap nowadays with the splendid Kia depreciation magic. Loved hot hatches 10-15 years ago but you can argue the manufacturers were actually laser focused on catering to that niche; now they're double dipping throwing a spoiler and extra exhaust tips on a pedestrian going sedan body. Reminds me of the chuffs of the old days when they couldn't afford a car of their own and they convinced their parents to allow them to put on an eBay spoiler and 'bling' wheels. Never fails to get a laugh when you see an older couple driving a souped up Civic or Corolla to the shops because they know it's Junior who put those on.

Such a divisive model and brand here in Australia. The primary issues of the FL5 are affordability and availability, the latter being at the mercy of Honda head office in Japan, who could ramp up production if they choose. If placing an order today in Australia, waiting up to 2 years for a new FL5 is very frustrating.
