I love these year wrap-ups. I'm turning 29 this year and like you I've spent a decade (and some change 😅) mostly staying in. Playing games, binging anime, spending time online etc. and I've recently come to the conclusion that I'm not feeling as fulfilled anymore with living like that. I find myself wanting to go places and hang out with friends and family, try new things. I love gaming but my priorities are changing. Hope your 2024 is fulfilling in every sense 😊

It really IS important to take proper time away from gaming sometimes. When you play too many, suddenly you'll look up one day and realize how much time (and also money) games take up now. I'm 42 years old and want to go places, spend time with friends, enjoy good whiskey, and work on my other hobbies and interests. So one of my resolutions this year was to whittle down my 150-game collection into a smaller set of games that I like enough to return to and to be more discerning about games I DO buy. I love your channel and I'll be watching as long as it's up. You clearly work hard on the content and have more than earned the right to step back and work on the other parts of your life!

I don't really read comments on youtube. Those Mother's Day comments were wonderful. Not only for what they said, but also for making me think back to that video, then to my own mother. Perfect way to start this video. Making us all a bit teary eyed.

The part about "touching grass" really resonates with me lately. It's been 10 years since I finished high school, almost 5 since I finished grad school. And I just don't feel like I have lived enough life. Haven't had a date since college. Haven't traveled more than a couple hours from my city since before college. Also lost 6 family members since the pandemic, so that hasn't helped. Games are great, a shared interest in games is how I met most of my best friends. That includes my roommate, and another good friend that helped me get my current job. Games are not bad. But I have been hyper aware recently that I am not getting any younger and need to make the most of every opportunity. I have a lot of respect for you putting out that message. It isn't healthy to fixate too much on any one part of life. Balance is key. Apologies for waxing poetic. I've been feeling a lot of things recently. You're doing good work here.

Man, I just wanna say you're not alone, in many aspects that you described we are very similar. And ya know I'm glad we both have realized this before it's 'too late' we're too old, or Heaven forbid something happens to us that complicates our health etc, it's time for us to enjoy life and.. "touch grass" haha. Games will still be here when we're ready to play. But friends, family, opportunities don't last forever. So lets make the most of us! Here's to a Happy 2024! I'm actually always glad you're so honest and true to yourself with your reviews. It actually makes it really easy to cross-reference your taste to mine and see "Oh, she liked this element, and I really do too!" or "Well, she didn't like this, but that kinda thing doesn't bug me as much..." even if you trash a game I like, it helps me learn more about what I like and why I like it, as well!

Octopath 2 is genuinely my game of 2023 and probs in my top 5 games of all time, i dont see enough people appreciating it enough (LOOKING AT YOU, GAME AWARDS) so when I do see it acknowledged (not even their game of the year just acknowledged in general) I am very pleased

Oh man, my comment was in there! I loved hearing what your detailed response was. I'm glad you felt it was something you wanted to talk about. First I want to say don't even worry about your new thumbnails with no titles, I think they're still lovely. Really as long as I know what game the video is about, either from the thumbnail or the title, it's perfect. I really just want to know what I'm getting into ;) And as for getting out more, I hope you get those experiences you need. I don't know if you'll remember but I was actually someone you talked to at Indy Pop Con for quite a little bit, standing at the very front of your shared booth area after my friend asked for you to be dragged out so I could say hi. I love that type of thing. Where your hobbies get to be a reason you go out, get new experiences, meet new people, have conversations about the things you love! (I probably said this before, my memory is so bad, please forgive me if I did comment about this before haha) I hope this upcoming year lets you have those experiences and beyond, past the pretty indoor hobby of gaming. Slowing down on your channel sounds like it's what you need, but I'll definitely still be watching what you put out and enjoying your thoughts and opinions over the games you share in your videos!

After all these years I associate you with jrpgs and having love for the genre. You like what you like and you come correct with what you dont like. You continue to be awesome and I wish you the best for this year and beyond on and off of youtube.

The novelty is what drew me to Like A Dragon 7. The fact that the main character is just a regular Yakuza who hallucinates himself into a turn based RPG and that's the justification for the new gameplay. I also just love how unabashedly goofy the game is and it's refreshing that the party are all adults.

I’ve been watching your videos for quite some time. I believe we were in the same Facebook cosplay group where you were advertising your videos. Your El Shadai video was my first one, and NieR solidified me as a fan. That being said, I LMAO’d when you mentioned Drakengard 3. I still watch that video from time to time. Getting to this video, I love your reviews. I might not 100% agree on some things, but hey, it’s YOUR opinion and insight (is that the right terminology?). You’re always informative. I do get good ideas of what to look into next from your stuff (sooo wanna play Octopath, but P3R and Eiyuden are going to take up a good chunk of time, most likely lol). Whatever you choose to rename yourself, you have my support. Whenever you do decide KZread isn’t it anymore, again, you have my support. I've been finding women reviewing games somewhat refreshing. It's not because of feminism or any type of ideology, but i think so many men are so hardcore into games that they can't see flaws in games they like because they are always going for 100% completion etc. I think you and IrchaGaming are two women that i watch and respect the opinion when you guys talk about a games you guys have played

We NEED to get you on Video Game Music trivia this year!! Well said all around. The part that especially hit was the fact that no one is ever going to be everyone's cup of tea, so just be you. For every comment asking you to change something, there will be another complaining that you changed it. So just be yourself. That also includes the thumbnails and titles. I kinda hate that KZread incentives it, but we're all playing the YT game. So for the people upset at the thumbs, dont hate the player, hate the game. Much respect and best of luck in '24!

First off nice video. I wanted to say I can really relate to how you feel about gaming life vs real life experience balance. I was a super gamer most of my life until I got older and started prioritizing my romantic relationships aka girls over my past time. I'm 36 so my ps5 gets love sporadically when I have be time. I say all that to say that I've come to realize that I'll always be a gamer. I may not have time to play like I did from 1995-2007 but it's still in me and I'll get it in when I can. Great video 😊 I really loved dragon quest 7 3ds and ni no kuni 2 but lol I’m weird. My game of the year last year was between Zelda Tears of the kingdom which was really amazing and I did like breath of the wild but I loved this one, probably my favorite Zelda game since twilight princess, but I think I have to give it to final fantasy 16 that game was amazing I loved every second of it and didn’t want it to end, my only negative was how it ended was so confusing but I personally will let it slide. This year I started Spider-Man 2 and Mario wonder and I’m really loving them if I played them last year it might have changed my opinion.

I hate when people want to argue over honest reviews. I appreciate your genuine opinions and how real you seem.

You make great videos. I don't always agree with what you say, but when I do agree, I agree a lot. I'm not sure if you've played Mother 1, but you should give it a shot. Since you've played the other 2, I'm curious what you would think of this one.

You really hit on why nostalgia isn't a valid point for criticism: the thing was fresh and shiny, and that's why you enjoyed it, and that doesn't always mean that it's going to hold up; to say that you didn't appreciate something just because you didn't grow up with it only highlights that it wasn't that great in the first place.

I dont know how i ended up here... But that affro is probably the coolest affro ever

I can think of one masterpiece JRPG you haven't played yet (at least I don't see a video of it): Vagrant Story! 🙂 In case you don't know, it is one of Square Enix's highest rated games at 92% MC, it was their first game to receive a perfect 40/40 in Famitsu (and only the third game to date to get that score, along with OoT and Soul Calibur 2). It is genuinely one of the most unique and underrated gems from the PS1 era. That being said, if I remember correctly, this style of game isn't really your cup of tea. And this is okay. 😊 But I thought I'd at least point it out in case it might pique your interest. It is one of my favourite games of all time, and there genuinely are not many games like it, so I'm always interested to let people know about it. The storytelling, atmosphere, writing, and cinematics are some of the best in the industry -- to this day. I'm not kidding! Where the game gets a little more divisive is in its gameplay and combat. It's very deep and complex, and difficult to grasp to the point of being opaque. But those with patience that are willing to stick with it will find an amazingly layered game. While it is not easily accessible today, I pray SQUARE ENIX gives it a proper remaster or remake one of these days. Maybe along with FF Tactics because it is part of the Ivalice Alliance. Cheers!
