I don’t care how good the new “Corvette” is in comparison to some icons as far as handling, numbers, etc. I’ve never been a huge fan of Corvettes, as they’ve always seemed to be owned by and deliberately designed to satiate the guys who NEEDED more attention, meanwhile most of America looks and yawns at Corvettes. Excepting of course the 1965-1967 Big block version. Sexy no matter how you slice it, yet understated and masculine, the one where “taste” was still thrown around during the design process. Beige and after it has always seemed to be in the same level of crassness that the word vulgar meant at the same time. Yes, I could call the 1st gen Corvettes vulgar, when viewed from the time when Lucy and Desi couldn’t even be DEPICTED as sharing a bed on TV even though they portrayed a married couple. Bonkers. What next, a blow job in the Oval Office? If that happens we will have overstayed our welcome as leaders of the free world. What? Seriously? No way in hell. Total bullshit, never happened. Is is what is is definition is what is is? Great. But the new one even went into the last stall at the last dive at the last hour to dig out the last whore passed out but verbally requesting intimacy. It has a REAR ENGINE! It’s NOT a real Corvette. Call it whatever. What next, a scaled up version of what RC cars have been doing for years, give it a LiPo battery for juice and a ridiculously over powered motor to blast it into hyper speed, even ludicrous speed? That too huh? This car represents corporate America’s desperate and misguided assertion of the answer no one asked. What will it take to beat the iconic super cars of the modern era? Who asked them that? Crickets. Yeah, and while you’re at it, aim for the sky, the future, the ragged edge, a flat plane crank, make it look like a JCWhitney “Ferrari”, and from the rear give it a sad kick in the ass where the impact shape sticks. And make claims of firsts ten years after the icons of ten years ago mastered long before. Set the benchmark by someone ELSE’S accomplishments. Claim relevance by the numbers achieved. Sit quietly on your velour throne, with three round taillights, to really bring tradition and progression into full circle, like round twilights. Oh. Damn. So sad. In the mid 1960’s, do you think Chevy really gave a shit about the numbers produced by Ferrari or Maserati or Porsche? Do you think they cared about where the engine was? They made the Corvair for goodness sake, been there, done that, overachieved, and never got the credit deserved. They took the once piddly toy meant to keep deep pockets stateside, and threw that for,HOA out with the shitty kitty litter and made a monster at odds with their own corporate rules. That was a sports car, and a monstrous one at that, with the Cobra and Miura the only things to compete yet a fraction of their cost, and surely more reliable than either. The 458 was love at first sight back then, along with the 308, and besides those modern Ferraris, I’ve thought they were designed with the vulgarity of Countach as the baseline. Enzo, Testarossa, F40, like top notch combovers on older men that actually got what they want, yet still desperate. Porsche. Eh. Never gave a crap except for the 928, muscular and sexy, and of course the Panamera has been a running joke for more than a decade, until……….the Tourismo version. I always need resuscitation after seeing one of those. Painfully beautiful. But I have a thing for wagons, so there. What the hell do I know? Too much, apparently.

All three cars are genuine masterpieces. The reason I am a Corvette man is because Corvette brings that performance to every man. Whereas most people would never be able to afford or more importantly maintain either one of the others. Thank you Chevrolet. Keep up the great work. GM man for life. ❤️😎👍

@@zsohaihfaosav No it's not, the standard Z06 competes more with the 911 classic sport or 911 GT3 Touring. The z06 z07 competes with the GT3 and the ZR1 competes with the top of the 9/11 stack (Turbo/S and GT 3RS). I'm expecting the ZR1 to beat or tie the 911 Turbo, with the Zora probably beating the Turbo S. 850bhp in the ZR1 and close to or over 1000 in the Zora, the Zora will be chomping at the heals of top tier hypercars with 1000bhp and somehow under 250k (before options). The Zora's powertrain will be comparable to a McLaren P1, Laferrari, Porsche 918, etc. with a modern infotainment system. Wild stuff coming out of the USA, FINALLY! The USA also holds the Guinness book of world record top speed for a stock road legal car.

Would've loved to see the track test done with the Z07.

​@@dan3162 in order to get people to sign off on giving you a car you need to create a test at the manufacturers will all approve. If you give a review or your car to review against manufacturers car and the reviewers says that they manufacturers car is better that just screwed you. And even worse, it might be because of something to do with the reviewer and not you so it's better for you to make sure that there's clear delineation between your product and the competitor's product that way it's more of a product showcase and you don't get screwed in some weird dumb way. Take a test track like vir that car and driver does, the manufacturers have to send people along with the cars to make sure the car performs at its best because they don't want a user watching the review and getting a bad impression. The only way you're going to get unbiased opinions is when actual owners get together.

Why not bring a z07 to this party lmao, and that comment about the gt3 having a boot is kind of a moot point when the c8 has two

The 458 Italia imo is the most attractive, best executed Ferrari ever produced. The fact that GM benchmarked it in the engineering development of it's C8 Z06 speaks volumes.

I've owned two Corvettes, unlike 99.9% of the Corvette fanboys on here and who cares. Everyone knows the Corvette is much much cheaper - it gets old saying it over and over again. Also, with the way the Eurotrash tax things, who even knows if it's all that cheaper. And in any case, this isn't a $50k Corvette, you're well above $100k, and people spending that on a car aren't pinching pennies.

The price of the 458 hasn't changed much in the last few years. Shows how much love there is for the V8 Ferrari.

The absurd bias against American cars is why I quit watching Top Gear. Like with the GT3. “Omg look at how much room the front ‘boot’ has!” Then proceeds to show a compartment the size of a literal glove box. The Corvettes trunk is big enough to fit the entire roof in it, plus luggage and it doesn’t even get mentioned.

I love LOVE the new corvette, it looks like a legit super car. I also very naively thought that the europeans would finally give it some kudos. @@amarjit_singh_ If you want a naturally aspirated high revving V8 over a modern hybrid Ferrari v6, absolutely. There’s a reason they used an older Ferrari. True car people know modern Porsches and old Ferraris are great, and Z06 joins those tanks because it now has a high revving mid engine V8. Also, it’s the most powerful production NA v8 ever. Modern Ferrari is dead. Just hybrid computers.

458 is a timeless beauty

as many others have said the z07 would have been a much better comparison with the porsche because it is the hard core variant, and would also show better steering feedback on track due to it being lighter with carbon brakes and wheels, shedding unsprung weight at each corner. You also brought a convertible not the coupe. The C8 Z06 compares very favourably in price to what you get also, especially with that NA engine.

As many others haven't pointed out, that this isn't a performance comparison video, this video just shows how these cars feel to drive compare to each other, so Z06 with Z07 pack wouldn't have made much difference. Also worth pointing out that this just the GT3 and not the GT3 with MR package.

Yeah, you Corvette guys get your knickers all bunched up so easily. Put the Z07 against the GT3RS which is the correct comparison.

GM today is run by Engineers. For example Mary Barra (CEO) and Mark Reuss ( President) are both engineers and Reuss is huge car enthusiast. GM has some of the best chassis engineers in the business today and the LT6 will go down as one of the greatest engines every to come out of any manufacturer. Bravo to GM for making the Corvette a world class sports car. Cheers!!!

@@Kevin-hp5fk uhhhh did you forget about the CT4V Blackwing? It has one of the best sports sedan chassis ever made. Wayyyyy more fun and engaging to drive than the M3 RS5 or C63. The Giulia QV still gives it a run though.

Base model Z06 with the heavier convertible roof.... don't expect an accurate representation on performance unless you get a 1LZ Coupe with the Z07 package

Brits had to find a way to cheat. The Z06 with the Z07 package completely decimates the Volkswagen.

Although Ollie mentioned it at the end, it's worth reiterating that he's probably comparing the lightest GT3 (manual with ceramic brakes) to the heaviest Z06 (feature rich convertible w/o any weight savings). The difference is ~400 lbs even in the best case scenario, this is quite the opposite. What went unmentioned--noted by many in the comments--is the price difference. If GR86/BRZ is making sports car affordable, Z06 is (somewhat) democratizing super-car. $110k is no pocket change but it can get you in a base Z06, which is probably good enough for most. Even a fully loaded one (3LZ, Z07, ceramic brakes, carbon wheels...) costs $157k, ~$15k less than the price of entry for a GT3. And the 458 is... best left undiscussed. Z06 needs no qualifier, but the value proposition certainly makes it all the more remarkable.

For the money, living in US it’s no competition which car is best value and it’s the Chevy. We should be proud of the car, it’s the best car Chevy has built in 50 maybe 60 years. Boy, can you say this was stacked in the GT3's favor? They pick one of the lightest versions of the 911 and put it up against the heaviest version of the Z06. Well, the Z06 convertible is only about 100 lbs. heavier than the coupe. The Z06 should have been spec'd with the Z07 package with the carbon fiber wheels. I wonder how a C6 Z06 would do against the GT3? On paper they are very similar. As much as I like the Corvette, and I really do like the Z06, I would say it probably lacks the refinement that the 458 and GT3 have. Both of the European brands' livelihood depends on each and every model they make. Their focus is on performance with every decision they make. That's not saying that the Corvette isn't a great car because it is. Team Corvette also takes racing very seriously (they've won a lot of races). I just think they have a slightly different approach to performance. It's more brute force where it's more finesse with the Europeans.

Congrats to Corvette on their 9th Le Mans class victory.

There is a old clip of Jermey Clarkson making fun of GM for making everything square. He said something like 'I bet they'd make the steering wheel square if they could'... Guess he was right.

Don't forget, this is a "convertible" Z06 going up against the best/fastest GT3 ever produced. Not sure why Top Gear with its supreme budget couldn't get their hands on a proper coupe Z06 with the Z07 package for a comparison. Conspiracy thoughts aside--a bit of a disappointment with this foregone opportunity. I'd still take the Porsche due to subjective reasons, but the C8 got me looking back at Corvette again, and this Z06 is a force to be reckoned with.

It's partly why I found Clarkson's farm so refreshing. It all felt so natural vs the forced hijinks that top gear relied on.

​@amarjit_singh_ let's also remember something here, the Corvette is a mass market car. It's meant to be driven by everyday working people. It's not for corporate executives with gobs of money, it's meant to be driven by motoring enthusiasts who are on a budget. Yeah it's not going to be the most luxurious, but it's going to be luxurious enough for the average person to think that it is some exotic car. And unlike the more expensive foreign cars, it's not going to cost an arm and a leg to maintain it. That's really where the Corvette beats out it's competition. You don't have to take it to some luxury mechanic who has all of the dealer specific tools to work on it. You could work on it yourself if you wanted, plus with it being LS based, any modifications are going to be significantly cheaper due to the wide variety of aftermarket parts available.

the Ferrari 458 was the best inspiration GM could get to make the Z06. The Z06 has the exotic sound, the track performance and still has all the comfort of a stingray. it's just amazing

A Z07 package coupe with carbon wheels/brakes would’ve been a better comparison.

@kevin if money was no object then very few car enthusiasts (aside from flag waving Americans) would pick a Corvette over a Ferrari or Porsche. By Chevy's own admission, they're trying to emulate Ferrari and Porsche for less money. If you had the money though...why settle for a knock-off when you could have the real deal. It's got nothing to do with stats either. Even if the Corvette was quicker around a track very few car enthusiasts would pick it if they had the money to buy a Ferrari. You're paying for the experience, the history, the pedigree, etc. My $20 Casio watch from Walmart is "better" than a $5,000 Rolex in terms of accuracy. But it's not a Rolex. That's not to say the Corvette is bad. It's ridiculously good. It will just never be a Ferrari. Sorry.

@@MrCuriocat lol I can't say I fully disagree with this sentiment, my argument would be; price point aside I'd tend to lean towards the GT3 with big wing and all being track focused which in turn lines up better with the Z07 pack car (and if it was full blown track time comparison the GT3 would have to be PDK). Where the base z06 isn't "as" track focused and would line up better against the GT3 Touring. Id prob argue if you wanted to bring in the heavy hitters ie 458 especiale and GT3RS, the vette to compare there would be the ZR1. All good fun though.

Gt3 is so beautiful Porsche can change so little and still make a huge difference

You mentioned, but didn't expand on, the reason why the Z06 rides so well compared to the Ferrari or GT3: American highways are concrete. They eat Ferraris and Porsches for lunch and spit them out with flat tires and broke wheels and suspensions. As a result, European sports cars are usually SUPREMELY uncomfortable on road trips. The C8, on the other hand, could easily take "bumpy" B roads and country lanes in Europe when it was tested there because compared to the buttery smooth roads that those cars are usually tested on, it ALSO has to be extremely good at taking broken, ice-shattered pavement that has more potholes and cracks than actual asphalt lol. The most extreme track car GM made before this, the ZL1 1LE, was VERY stiffly damped. The Z06 ironically has to be MORE rounded because its demographic appeal is a lot wider.

As someone who has taken his 458, 488, F8 and Pista on many roadtrips, it is very clear that you don't have the faintest clue. Yes US roads are utter crap, but you can't expect the rest of the western world to want cars designed for development countries. As for the Z06? Did you see Rob Ferettis video on the wheel issues? Newsflash. Do you think a Z07 with CF wheels or just the low profile fronts of the Z06 will fair any better than those on an F8 for example? Okay. Glad we cleared that up.

And the Corvette C8 Z06 GT3.R will be leaving both brands behind at Le Mans.

Ferrari 458 all day everyday!

Before I watch this, here are my reasons for not wanting either the Ferrari or Porsche: 1: '911' - I do occasionally like to turn right out of T junctions (UK based) 2: '458' - The knob jokes would become tiresome after a while. Conclusion: I guess I'm a Corvette guy, God darn it! 😉

I LOVE how sooo many people commenting are saying "but, but it's not the Z07 package, not a good comparison" and COMPLETELY ignore the fact that the GT3 is a MANUAL and NOT the RS model, AND that the 458 is NOT the Speciale and it is FOURTEEN years old! 🤣 Why do fanboys have to be so cliche? The Z06 is EXACTLY what it's supposed to be- an amazing sounding, crazy performance value with the looks mostly for people that want to be looked at. The GT3 is exactly what it's supposed to be- an amazing sounding, understated track weapon that feels directly plugged in to your brain mostly for people who care about driving feel (hence the ONLY car here that comes in a manual) The 458 is exactly what it's supposed to be- an amazing sounding, crazy expensive, exclusive mobile piece of art mostly for people that are crazy wealthy and want people to know it. Yes, the better comparison would've been a Z07 vs GT3 RS PDK, and a (still decade older) 458 Speciale. I doubt there is ANYONE cross shopping ANY of these 3 cars, so it's always going to be apples to oranges. BTW, I have a manual 911, my brother has a C8, and my coworker has a 458. I have driven and LOVE them all.

The presenter is a bit ignorant. Performance-wise, the Corvette Z variants have been right up there with the "more expensive" exotics and in the upper echelons of performance for several generations now. See: C4 ZR1, C5 Z06, C6 Z06, C6 ZR1, etc. etc. Go check out the lap times of these cars compared to Ferraris of the same era. eg. The C5 Z06 Corvette had one of the fastest Nürburgring times and lap times of any production car at the time. "When the C5 Corvette Z06 clocked its 7:56 time, it was a pretty big deal. GM claimed it was the first production car to break past the eight-minute mark."

Nice review! One BIG thing you failed to mention though is you get ALL that performance at almost half the price of the GT3! Come on now! Cheers!

Mega points missed by this tiringly hand-waving "review": Not taking into account either car's market value at the moment, the Z06 is less than 2/3rds the cost of the GT3 ($105 vs $170), and that's not including how much more quickly the options add up on the GT3. And while they both have space for stuff, there are two actual trunks in the Z06, the ride is better and - even with all that tech and engineering - it can be serviced at about any of the 2900 Chevy dealers in the US. And, regarding that undeniable masterpiece the 458 is, you'll need as much as $280K for one, not to mention a whack of cash in your account for those jaw-dropping regular maintenance items. And that engine was also devised those several years ago under regulations that are quite different than they are today, which makes the GT3's and Z06's engines that much more incredible (and they will both NO DOUBT last longer!). They are all stupendous, but two of them would not only require much more from their owners, but they would easily not be able to drive them nearly as often. And next time, get someone else to assess cars of this type.

Jeremy prefers the more hard core GT3, says the Z06 was 10 mph faster in the straights but never says which car was faster. I'm guessing it was the Z06 and in Z07 form will even faster yet than the GT3.

I think the Z06 was faster too. There is a great head to head of the 2008ish ZR1 against a 911TT and a Ferrari something called "Monsters Brawl" and the Vette destroyed the others, even if the British race driver wouldn't admit it, was way faster around the track. Think the same was true here too.

Ordered the Z06 and waiting for it...

Oh another thing that kills me is when he said the 458 is just as quick as the vette.....sorry it's not....but oh well.

The C8 Z06 is a glorious car, but let’s not forget it was the C6 Z06 that first took the fight straight to Porsche’s 911 GT3. The C7 had a wobble in this respect, but I see this as a continuation of a stellar Corvette Z06 lineage. I’m biased owning a C6 Z06, but with a (modified) 650hp naturally aspirated engine, manual transmission and approx. 1350kg kerb weight, I utterly adore it…

He did not even dare to mention the price of all 3 cars!

That 911 interior is beautiful. So clean, purposeful and elegant. That’s one of the best looking steering wheels I’ve ever seen. That shifter is lovely too, the vents, the switches, every little detail is perfect; no unnecessary or frivolous shapes anywhere. The designers weren’t getting caught up with “styling” or trying too hard.. just form following function in the best way. Thank you, Porsche, for having your priorities straight and showing the industry how it’s done. A beacon of sound design philosophy in an often cringe world.

And isn't in incredible that a GT3 RS with 152 less HP and less torque than the C8 Z06 is just as fast on the track. There is real engineering and GM engineering.

It's strange seeing him complain about the height of the driving position in the Corvette as he doesn't look to be any higher than the other two, guess it just feels higher somehow... Also, probably an unpopular opinion but I don't find the 458 to be particularly good-looking at all, although I'm not a fan of the looks of a lot of Ferraris that many seem to like the looks of.

The sound of the that Corvette is intoxicating!!!

@@danrook5757 Most likely they didn't track it because this wasn't exactly an apples to apples comparison, variant wise. Z06 is a convertible and not the coupé, it's just a guess from my side.

GT3 costs like double of the Z06, and 458 is about double of GT3 still...in that sense Corvette has created a stunning car even more so. Also love the blue color on this one.

Due to mark up, most will purchase a Z06 for 200k, an averagely optioned 992 gt3 is 225k (used because who can find a new one on the lot) and a 458 Italia is about 200k.

You forgot "a little" detail: you can buy TWO Z06 and a Camaro for the price of one GT3

No mention of pricing at all? The Porsche starts at over $170,000, and will likely set you back over $200,000 by the time you've optioned it. The Z06 is some $70,000 cheaper, not taking into account dealer markups. Also the Z06 is attainable for the regular bloke, as long as you have the means and you don't mind waiting for one, whereas you can't get a GT3 unless you are offered one by Porsche. Is the Porsche actually $70,000 better? No, it's not - you are paying that because it is ultra exclusive. On the other hand, the GT3 is probably a better investment long term, if that's what you are after in a sports car.

This Corvette configuration is two steps down from the Porsche. It's not an equivalent model comparison and it certainly seems deliberate. That tells us many interesting things....

Notice how y’all mentioned several times it is a *good* car. Just admit it TG, it’s a *GREAT* car. We already know the 458 is hands down a legend. And as racer image the gt3 is, there’s no way you are dailying a gt3 (too stiff). The Vette is more for those desert runs and likely gets the faster lap time: it does both. And that not with the z07 package.

I drove a 458 on track in Las Vegas over a decade ago. It happened to be one of the rainiest days of the year so before jumping in the Ferrari, I lapped an all wheel drive Audi R8 v10 and a Nissan GT-R. The real wheel drive 458 absolutely ripped. It felt faster (it was by just over a second) and more confident (it was, by over a mile). If I ever buy a Ferrari it may very well be a 458

I don't care what anyone says, for an all-around daily driver PLUS hotrod/racer/track car, I will take a naturally aspirated V8 over forced induction any day of the week. First off, ya don't have the over-heating problems when racing, like ya do with forced induction engines. Secondly, because of that, a NA engine gives you much more consistent performance, it doesn't "fade away" over the course of a racing event. Lastly: A well built naturally aspirated V8 with it's pure, unadulterated exhaust note, sounds FAR better than the whine of a super charger and/or the hiss & spit of a turbo. It also takes far more knowledge, skill, and talent to build a powerful naturally aspirated engine, because you can slap a turbo on just about anything & make it go faster. I say the engineers at Chevy definitely knew what the hell they were doing when they chose to go with a naturally aspirated engine for the new Z06.

All that track time and he never shared the lap times? I would have liked to see all 3 cars lap times

When they took away the Ferrari, I thought for sure it was because they were about to have an actual shootout. Sadly disappointed by the thunderous lack of lap times. GM built this car to take on the world and they deserve the glory if it is due, or alternatively, to be put in their place. What an anti-climax.

The Corvette also has copious amounts of storage space in its "frunk" and rear; you might have mentioned that.

Interesting he doesn't say anything negative about the 458 steering wheel. It's basically hexagonal, not round. As much as he gripes about the C8s wheel, which also is basically hexagonal, NOT square (maybe these people need to go back to geometry class), though it does have a flatter top and bottom, but is still essentially the same shape.

Everyone says that until they actually ride inside the gt3. Most people say it's impossible as a road car because of how uncomfortable the suspension and seats are and they'd rather drive a Honda civic on the road.

@@eats4cheaps305 Dont ever forget the ZL11LE Camaro that GM warned people about because it was nothing but brick stiff on the street. The people still bought it and complained. I simply dont want a real race car that has suspension stiff enough to bounce me around on the road.

Two fairly major nits to pick. First this is a non-Z07 convertible Z06, undeniably the heaviest and least dynamically capable Z06 (relatively speaking of course). Meanwhile, you've selected the lightest and most hardcore GT3. So you've hobbled the Z06 and then complain about its weight and say you prefer the GT3 on track. Not exactly fair but maybe it's what was available... Secondly, the 458 was ridiculously expensive (and remains so today), and is relatively fragile, far more expensive to maintain and far less practical day to day (zero storage) compared to the Z06. The Z06 is appealing to a different market. None of that was mentioned (or mentioned extremely briefly in passing) and these are not minor points. Also, a base GT3 is far more expensive than a loaded Z06 (setting aside dealer markups, which exist on both cars).

Allow me to do the same. You are correct about the Z07 coupe being the better comparison... But not to a MANUAL GT3! It is NOT even close to the most hardcore GT3. A GT3 RS with a PDK is. And there is going to be a bigger difference in an RS with PDK than a Z07... And the 458 was a bad comparison because it's too EXPENSIVE? Not the fact that it is 14 years older than the Z06?! lol

So you took the least sport oriented ZO6 available (convertible) with the least sport oriented available wheels, the least sport oriented available tires, the least sport oriented available brakes, the least sport oriented available seats, the least sport oriented available aero and try to present it as a fair fight. 🤔

What if the "stupidly shaped steering wheel" is really you stupidly missing the two primary reasons? (1) You see more of the instrumentation; and (2) Easier to get in and out from under.

Yep. That blue was and still used by porsche since the late 70's and yesss the engine, a ferrari engine. Chevrolet couldn't build his own and decided to reverse engineer a ferrari engine to learn how to build a bigger one for the corvette. No creativity or real heart on that car, everything is a copy of European engineering. I have no respect for that. It took ferrari 70 years of racing and research and development to reach this level of performance and technology so Chevrolet can steal it . Insane

I think the standard Z06 should be compared to a GT3 Touring, and the Z06 w/Z07 pack would be compared to a GT3 / GT3 RS. I'm guessing this is what you had on hand to test with :)

Ferrari may make great cars, but they don’t trust having their product scrutinized. Their PR refuses to let cars be tracked, tested, measured, or otherwise. Chris Harris himself was blacklisted simply for accurately reviewing one

Top gear has been doing this for a while, especially with Clarkson and co. Anything to crap on American cars to make Europeans look good

The Z06 is still a supercar, but a coupe with the Zo7 package would be more crisp whereas the flavor you selected has more GT notes.
