    Couple of tips from a life of doing this. Sustain pedal, get one with switchable polarity. It will save you when you meet a keyboard which either doesn’t support changing, or is a pain. Nano control - I agree it’s excellent but also liable to faders and buttons coming off. A case within your bag for it will really help.

    I never play worship keys without my Windows 11 laptop (actually a 2-in-1 so I can fold it to be like a tablet). Even when I'm playing the Nord, I do not use its sounds but rather the sounds from Sunday Keys.

    Noting your Focusrite also has MIDI, a MIDI cable probably wouldn't hurt, in case you come across a controller with no USB. I also pack two twin 1/4"-1/4" cables and a stereo DI, just in case there are any issues with getting audio to the house system and/or my monitors (no in-ears here, yet!)

    I have some extra 1/8 to midi adapters for my microfreak, A 20 ft 1/4" extension for my in-ears, and extra 9 volt in case the bassist's active bass dies! Also in Windows I'm not sure you can route the system sound to a different audio output than you are using for Ableton. Could be wrong though. I usually just disable the system sounds.

    Great list, I also carry a 5 pin DIN MIDI with me as well, since both my practice keyboard at home as well as the one at church are old enough to not be USB. I also have a USB cable in my kit if I happen to need to play on a newer keyboard that doesn't have the 5 pin DIN outputs. I am fairly new to this having had Sunday Keys for a bit less than a month, but I am also looking to get a dedicated stand for the iPad. If anyone has any suggestions, it should be stable enough to handle a quick push to switch sounds quickly and have a thick enough bracket to handle the military grade case I wrapped around my iPad to protect that from the bumps and bruises along the way. Once I get everything assembled, I am thinking of a Harbor Freight Apache case to keep everything together, they are way cheaper than Pelican cases which are also an option if you have the money.

    So I always put my laptop on a music stand. I am confident that it won't slip or anything. Then one day after a rehearsal soundcheck, someone twisted the knob for the music stand's tilt and I don't know why they did that. So I grabbed a cup of coffee and when I came back, I was horrified to find my laptop in the floor.

    How do you stick Nano Kontrol to the keyboard?

  • @tomaszw.2268
    @tomaszw.22682 жыл бұрын

    Macbook Air has only 2 usb-c ports. You need at least 3 (keyboard, nanoKontrol, audio interface) + power. Unfortunately, start looking for hub. ;-)

  • @PerkeleKeyboardist

    @PerkeleKeyboardist

    A hub is a must: your first usb-c port will be for the charger, innit

  • @tomaszw.2268

    @tomaszw.2268

    @@PerkeleKeyboardist charger is needed only if a session is long . 3-4h without charger should not be a problem. But if you really don't like hubs, then you can use audio interface with usb-host port - like iConnectivity AUDIO4c. Keyboard and interface are connected to mac directly and nanoKontroler is connected "through" audiointerface.

  • @SundaySounds

    @SundaySounds

    @@tomaszw.2268 I wouldn't recommend playing without a charger anyway. You can never be sure you have full battery in the first place. Besides, your computer may sit there turned on all the time from the soundcheck start to the very end of show/service, which easily may be a few hours.

    If you are using an interface such as the one in this video, we would recommend a DI box to connect to the mixer, you could also use an interface/di combo with xlr outputs like the Radial USB Pro - here are a few diagrams of possible setups for the App with various gear: support.sundaysounds.com/hc/en-us/articles/5975993985047

    It feels like this channel prefers MainStage a little more than Ableton. I've seen the video comparison of them... but i'd like to know even more opinions/facts of people choose that over ableton. Is it mainly price/ease of use??

  • @SundaySounds

    @SundaySounds

    2 жыл бұрын

    Most of our audience uses MainStage, so we do focus a bit more there. Both are great tools. Preference can also depend on the use case - for example, if you also want to run tracks and automation - Ableton Live is much better at this. MainStage does tend to be easier to use thanks to the customizable UI.

    Negative. 2k max and that would include a decent midi keyboard controller. A current MacBook Air for $999 will run this perfectly. $250 max for all cables, $200 for interface, $80 for NaniKontrol2, $75 for Sunday Keys (i think) $80 for sustain pedal, $60 or so for the laptop stand, and you could get an M-Audio 88 key controller for about $250 and be totally set. None of us have any money or we’d buy big synthesizers. 🤣 Check it out, it’s a fantastic system.

  • @OLskewL

    Just get hardware that doesn't need drivers because if Mac decides to update their software and your hardware brand cannot keep up or will not keep up, your hardware is officially a paper weight. This is what happened to me with both my Veikk drawing tablet and my M-Audio KeyRig49 after last 3 Mac updates.
