Hi Thomas, thanks for the review!! You mentioned that on the top trim biggest infotainment screen the map can be shown on both screens because the processor can handle it on the top trim. Do you know what is the processor difference between Discover and Discover Pro? Is it worth the upgrade just for this?

Finally! I ordered the new Polo GTI in early January and have been waiting for a review from you guys ever since! The most informative car channel on this platform!

I sure hope they will go back to regular buttons at some point for the steering wheel. For the radio, a volume knob. But maybe that is just us getting old and cars accommodating younger people while also saving VW money. I'd pick the previous interior over this any day of the week.

I think it's just VW saving money, I'm relatively young and don't see any reason why some buttons can't just be mechanical.

We have the prefacelift GTI and I always thought it looked a bit dull and boring but I am Pleasantly surprised with this update. Some materials are really beyond cheap but if you get a good deal for it, it is a really fun car that you can throw into a corner

Love the Polo GTI... Sadly, we will not have this great little hot hatchback here in the states.

I've got a mk8 golf gti and would love the performance monitor in that, gutted!

This has to be best looking Polo GTI. Ever. And rightly so. Previous iterations looks wise always lagged behind its bigger brother, but now it's on par if not better. The clean, classy and sporty styling is what I love about the mk7 gti and having the same formula here for the Polo gti is an absolute winner in my eyes.

Ordered mine early February and it's currently built and sat at Emden Germany (central processing hub for VW's in Europe) awaiting passage to the UK. Should arrive in the UK this coming Friday. Then depending on when it can get on a transporter, as to how long it takes to get to the dealer. Hopefully no more than a few days to a week. Happy days.

Definitely thinking of buying one next now 🤟🏻

VW needs to improve their interior materials. The car looks good from the outside but I dont like having the feeling of tapping an empty garbagge can made of plastic when im knocking the interior plastics with my fingers. Even a first gen Audi A3 had better plastics inside.

unfortunately all VAG vehicles developed since dieselgate have been stingy with materials as they've prioritised spending on technology rather than materials that provide a feeling of durability and quality

Don‘t worry, drivers on German highways aren‘t exactly good drivers. This applies to people driving with high speeds and also people driving 130 kph. So you‘re not really missing out.

I have the MY21 polo gti- I like my headlights better but the new cars tail lights I think look better

I've had a few VW's over the years, but I won't be buying another one until we get the proper buttons & nobs back.

Wish we got these in the states. But no manual option?

Wish manufacturers would give their small hot hatches proper dual exhaust tips like their bigger brothers already have. Just doesn't look very sporty imo, but it having a 2.0 instead of a smaller 1.6 or 1.5 probably means you can get a decent and reliable power boost with relatively low effort.

I never thought, I should say this, but I would prefer this car instead of the Golf mk 8. Back to physical buttons, however. Thanks for a great and thorough review. I still don't understand why VW skipped the 150 bhp R- Line Polo, but maybe it came too close to the GTI in terms of price and equipment? The average customer would probably prefer a GTI, if the price is reasonable. I know, I would.

Looks a great fun car, we only need a smaller car now as a second car so unsure Golf GTI or Polo GTI it’ll definitely be one of these ?

First review on YT, great job! I really like how they improved the exterior with the facelift. Especially the GTI version looks now more aggressive, with some nice details like the interesting foglamps. They also finally went full LED even in the back. The only thing they left for the Golf are cascading indicators in the front. Overall a fresh, yet not over-complicated design. From my perspective, the only questionable change with the facelift was making the dashboard glossy. The matte version was a better choice (even though I prefer the newer, a bit darker, shade of red). And well, having the ambient lighting in color would be cool, but again, they Golf needs at least some advantages to justify its price. Pretty convincing package overall, especially since Thomas obviously enjoyed the drive.

@@TRiBaL1981 Yes, but it used to be matte grey or matte red and now it is glossy grey or glossy red. Maybe I’m wrong, but for the moment I think that the glossiness will make any fingerprints or dust to more visible.

I've just bought myself a black pre facelift 2021 version- but it comes with the 207PS engine and 7 speed DSG. I actually prefer the pre facelift. I love this car- does everything so competently without showing off.

I’d buy the facelift version just for the dynamic indicators, matrix headlamps, digital cluster and lane assist all as default

Nice review. Think you covered everything well. Ordered one myself last month to replace my Hyundai I30N. Decided to downsize and go for something not as hard core this time round. The only downside, is the projected 42 week (if you are lucky!) wait for delivery.

That order time is nonsense, I ordered mine at the end of April and got a phone call last week saying it is on the way to the dealership. Nowhere near as long as claimed time. Roughly 3 months if I had to guess

@@Danny-gb2kj Hi there. I ordered my Polo GTI in early February 2022 and it was built the first week in June (build week 22). I know this for a fact, as I've seen a copy of the current VW O/L Order system for my new car and that states STATUS = 30 (car has left the factory) and Commission Status 4 (car fully built). It will take another 6/8 weeks to ship it from South Africa to the UK. So somewhat better than the 42 weeks quoted by the dealer. It looks like it will be hopefully be more like 6 months. Doubt if you could get ANY new car factory order within a 3 month period at the moment. Unless you were lucky enough to drop on a car that already had a confirmed build week that the dealer could re-spec for you. Which is maybe what's happened for you. Try GOOGLE and have a look at all the problem re new cars builds / delays because of the ongoing semiconductor shortages etc. If interest enough... have a look at the thread on UK-POLOS.net about the wait times for new POLO GTIs. A couple of guys ordered in October / November 2021 and are still waiting for their cars. There's also a fair sized thread on PISTONHEADS about this issue as well. The position with the MK8 Golf is even worse. And if you want to order one of the new VW electric cars (IE. fresh factory build) you would need an immense amount of patience. And Ford closed their order books for their two most popular cars (Focus / Fiesta) several weeks ago because of component shortages. The war in the Ukraine isn't helping either, as the wiring harness for the Ford Focus was built primarily in the Ukraine and they've had to re-tool up in Spain to take over the job (min 4 months lead time to do this). So as you can see, the issue isn't just with VW. There are a number of new Polo GTIs for sale on Autotrader. But these will have been ordered several months ago by dealers. And will also be at the current RRP, which is pretty much a grand more than when I ordered mine. Enjoy your new car when it turns up.

@@mharro88 Sadly... reading internet articles etc. and even a quick test drive very rarely give you a "real" idea of what a car is like to live with long term. Don't get me wrong, the I30N is an absolute weapon on the right road (which we have a lot of in rural SW Scotland), especially in sport+ mode. But... it does (like a lot of cars of its ilk) come with a number of compromises to live with as your daily driver. The steering (even in normal mode) is VERY heavy and the turning circle is ludicrous (it's like an oil tanker!), due to the extreme steering rack limiter. The ride quality, again even in normal mode, is pretty unforgiving (far harsher then my previous two cars, Focus ST's). Though later model years got slightly eased settings (relaxed about 10% I believe). Also drinks fuel like it's going out of fashion (again far worse than the Focus ST). Sadly as well, my car was not blessed with the best of gear boxes. A known problem effecting (see N-cars.net) either 1st / 2nd gear, or 5th / 6th gear (mine was the former). In the garage twice for this and though gear selection improved, far from great. So all told, I'll be glad to see it gone. Though I'm sure others have different experiences / opinions. Cars (like many things in life) are very subjective topics. Enjoy whatever you drive. PS. I would have gone for an I20N if they did an auto option (needed for a couple of years due to a knee injury).

Use something like drivethedeal and OTR cash price will be approx 27k with almost all optional extras. Pretty much identical to the i20n with the three options you can add on that.

The updates on the exterior make it look more sophisticated and as if it's larger. The pre face-lift looked wonky especially from the rear.

That’s a phenomenal little car. Only downside are the interior materials.

Is it me or are car prices ridiculous at the moment. I remember ordering previous version (same generation) in 2018 for £23K including a few options. 4 years later same car nearly £30K.

2018 model probably needed a fair few options ticking to get the same level of spec this one has as standard (matrix LED headlights, digital climate control, virtual cockpit etc - thats gotta be 3-4k there already)

It does not show that it has a gti character either internally but mainly externally. Unfortunately there is no three-door version option.

red flags the 30.000 pricetag and no manual option especially when the i20n exists

so nice, I hope there could be a 1.4t or 1.5t version in china

I juste bought this New Polo GTI in Grey full option today! Now i have to wait untill december... It'll be long, nice test drive by the way

The front end is how the new golf should have looked

In my opinion the best polo GTI was the 6R-6C GTI with pocket rocket dimensions, better interior quality and option for a manual transmission.

VW should consider bringing the Polo to the states. Especially, now that the Golf has been cancelled here.

What's the 0-100?

This has gotten very expensive so I’ve gone for a fully specced Fiesta Mk8.5 ST3 for the starting price of the polo

DOA in Sweden. Road taxes for ICE cars, fuel costs, future resale value, insurance and so on. Better to buy a electric car nowadays.

Pano roof is an optional extra at nearly 1000 GBP. I would skip this due to additional weight and the potential for malfunction.

@@ad_182_uk I went with it, the weight really won't impact times, in fact there is a 0-60 with the pano roof and it still hits the 6.5s mate. And it makes the car look so sexy

@@TRiBaL1981 νομίζω δυο εντελώς διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις στον χώρο, το πόλο είναι πολύ πιο πολιτισμένο, πιο φιλικό σε αστικό περιβάλλον λόγω σασμάν, ηλεκτρονικής ανάρτησης…. Έχει πιο ποιοτικό εσωτερικό απτό φιέστα και το μοτέρ του είναι πιο μεγάλο πράγμα που σημαίνει ότι αν θες να πειραματιστείς είναι καλύτερη πλατφόρμα. Το φιέστα είναι πολύ πιο σκληροπυρηνικό, πολύ σκληρή ανάρτηση, κοντή κρεμαγιέρα, απόλυτο τιμόνι και εσωτερικό παρά πολύ ωραίο με πολύ μάχιμα καθίσματα. Και τα δυο τέλειες επιλογές, προσωπικά προτιμώ το φιέστα γιατί είναι πολύ πιο καβλογκαζο να το πω και έτσι, και η τιμή του καλή για αυτό που σου δίνει. Τώρα με τα facelift έχουν αλλάξει πολύ οι τιμές δυστηχως

@@ArgyriST_ Οι τιμές φιλε ειναι αστα να πάνε! Μεχρι τώρα ήθελα φουλ το φιέστα αλλά εφαγα 3 ξενέρες. Μια που δεν πρόλαβα το παλιό και ήρθε το αμφιλεγόμενο οπτικα facelift ΧΩΡΙΣ αυτοματισμούς στα παράθυρα και αναδιπλούμενους καθρέπτες (λογω ελλειψης ημιαγωγων), δύο που πριν λίγες ημέρες καταργήσανε το 3θυρο (αν μπεις στην φορντ δεν υπαρχει πλεον) και τρια η τιμή οπου σε αυτα τα χρήματα γιατι οχι το gti. Εκει που κολλαω ειναι στην καταναλωση. Φυσιολογικα ο 2.0 θα καιει λιγο παραπανω αλλα υπαρχουν αναφορες που λενε οτι και ο 1.5 ρουφαει πολυ!

Τώρα για την κατανάλωση επειδή έχω περάσει από όλα τα στάδια του αυτοκινήτου, σε μαμά μορφή μέσα στην πολύ αν πηγαίνεις χαλαρά είσαι κοντά στο 8-8.5 που είναι πολύ κομπλέ. Σε ταξίδι ακόμα πιο κάτω.

Has the new 7-speed DSG shorter gear ratios in comparison with the old one (wide ratio 6-speed DSG)?

Here in South Africa we get the 6 speed face lifted polo. Most would agree for the 6 speed over 7 speed for tuning purposes

The hard low quality plastic all over the cabin along with the touch buttons everywhere makes me pass on this polo Gti. So sad because it would have otherwise been a perfect car :( I really like the new exterior though, especially the front lower bumper/grill part and the rear lights. Looks awesome

VW should have real exhaust to all models, not only GTI GTD and R

Thank you for fulfilling my request! Think VW nailed it for a modern compact hot hatch but I would have loved to see the 150hp 1.5l in a polo as a nice compromise. The split screen is nice in "active driving lounges" actually, less in more calm driving lounges. :D

clearly another example of ICE sporty cars being fun in more ways than one single straight line trick.

in Germany a liter fuel is 2,00$ and a gallon (US) is 3,7 liters means over 7$ per galllon fuel price in germany... you go broke without driving EVs
