The battery consumption is based on the input set in the GPS. With no input set, the car defaults to use all the battery first. If you set a destination 100 miles away and had 35 miles of EV range, the car would figure out when the best place to use the battery vs motor is (ie. motor at higher speeds where it is more efficient and the battery at slower speeds)

The best current hybrid out there. I have had many vehicles. This one is a keeper.... Quick, balanced and quite.

I just ordered a 2023 Ultimate using the EV for all my local travels and recharging off my solar installation with LG battery backup. The Hybrid uses will be for when I venture into Albuquerque and trips to Colorado and Arizona, etc. So... I'll get basically (almost) free recharges for~70% of my driving. I still am very apprehensive about long trips and charge availability for a pure EV.

I think you got it wrong from an EV efficiency perspective, it has a gross 18kWh battery pack only 14kWh is usable, which equates to 2.6 mi/kWh. This is inline with other full EVs like ID4, IONIQ5 or EV6. I think this Volvo is efficient in both electric only and hybrid modes, impressive! As always thanks for the video.

I have an ioniq 5 and I get 3.5-4.2 per kw/mile.

I have this 2022+ E.R. Polestar Engineered model, 5 months ago I went in for an Extended Range, R-model, & got this, E.R. Polestar Engineered instead. Traded in a loaded 2020 inscription T8. I was Crazy shocked how much i got for the trade in.😁👍 My first issue was, I wanted the drive mode switch back down below on that wheel, ... But now I've gotten very proficient at switching drive modes on screen, and they tell me a on screen shortcut button is in the works, via an Over the Air Update in the future. (When? ... Wont hold breath) ... Well the lack of Car play was a big disappointment, At That Time. But Now, its Finally Here, & I think the Car Play is Better than my 2020 C.P. (its Full Screen Now) & The Android system lets me choose which Map system to use, my Car play Apple map, or Google map. Now, what the dealer Didn't explained to me was how to change my the Olhins Dampers. After Reading the Manual..."Duh"...I figured it out. After a few trials, my Fav setting is #15. The settings are 1-23. As for My EV RANGE... Now in Summer with A/C On & driving around town staying under 50Mph. My Pure EV Range has been Constantly 37-38 miles. ... Now with A/C OFF & windows down, I get 40-41 Pure EV Range. (2 people in Car) ... So My verdict: " I LOVE IT ! 😍" Oh. & FYI: As for the Charge Times, Almost Double Range, Also Means Almost Double Charge times. 🤪 🤷‍♀ (Not the fastest Charging time.)

Nice, pretty impressive for both EV and gas only for such a large SUV.

We have the same exact vehicle, color and all... when the battery is depleted we switch to charge mode, this will actually charge the entire battery back to 100% depending on the distance. When you factor in this benefit, the overall mileage increases. When the car is placed in Polestar mode it uses both gas and electric when you give it the beans, it will snap you back in the seat in a blink. We have been very impressed so far, we came from a Audi Q5 Prestige, creature comforts are a little different but the power in this Volvo is absolute and amazingly fun to drive, we are now average about 40 miles in electric mode, and yes we do plug it in.

The charge mode decreases the efficiency of the gas engine though. I think it likely negates the mileage increase because you may get an extra 35 miles in pure mode but it cost you 40-45 miles of gas to do it. I think overall it's the worst case scenario for charging up the battery. I'm curious what the best usage of the 'charge mode' would be. It seems to me like it's only useful in a very specific scenario where you're on a road trip and you destination for the night doesn't have a charge point but the only driving you plan on doing the next day is minimal around town driving that can be handled by the battery in pure mode.

35 miles freeway is really impressive. Seems like it would be dead easy to get over 40 around town.

I've had the XC60 recharge for a couple months now, it's EV range covers the vast majority of our driving and therefore the mpg average is 84 mpg. This past weekend we drove to a location 50 miles away, with the battery at 0% it averaged 31 mpg. We generally like the car. In particular the 16 way seats, also the speed sensitive cruise is intuitive and makes for a more relaxing drive. We got the Harmon Cardin sound system, I am not an audiophile, though I prefer the system in my Lariat. The Lariat's system does a better jobs with speed sensitive volume adjustment. My only complaint with the XC60 is the ride can be rough, I think this is due to the large wheels (20's). It rides rougher than my F150 that has the max tow package and considerably rougher than my wife's Land Cruiser. What I will say the high HP of this vehicle is of no significance to me, never do we drive fast, the top speed since we got it is 70. This vehicle is intended to be a local errand car, for long trips either the F150 SC Lariat or the Toyota LandCruise will be our vehicle of course. I will probably look at swapping the 20's with 18's to improve the ride.

4:15 -- general rule-of-thumb is that gas-filler doors on European cars tend to be on the rear right side (opposite side of driver), and the gas-filler doors on Asian cars tend to be on the rear left (driver) side. Not sure how this works in cars with steering wheels on the right side (i.e., UK-style).

i think it would have done more intelligently if you had entered a destination in its navigation system.

The Volvo XC60 T8 will only optimize the hybrid/pure mode when a direction/address is entered; otherwise it defaults to what the user selects as the drive mode.

You make a very good point and allow me to emphasise. If you enter a destination into google maps on the current android auto then it will look at the route and specifically tailor when to use EV mode and when to use the ICE based on road speeds AND current congestion (etc). So one trip might be different to the next but its always trying to figure out how best to use your EV range and when to fill in with ICE motor. I'm not a fan of android (although I use google products) but this makes SO much sense to me. Hoping my XC60 T8 Recharge Ultimate will actually arrive this next week.

I have two years left of my lease on a gas powered 2021 XC60 R Design. If they add CarPlay to this model, it'll be my next one for sure! Loving the PHEV factor. High 30s for electric range is perfect for most day to day stuff!

Doing the math for the entire trip (both gas and electric) is about 102 miles divided 2.235 = 45 mpg combined. Driving further on gas of course just drives that number down. 45 mpg is not very good as a normal diesel powered car can do that. The hybrid only makes sense if the bulk of your daily driving is within the pure electric range and ideally charged with solar. Otherwise it's not all that impressive.

Now I don't feel bad about my 28 MPG in my 2020 M5 Comp lol

Wrong as everybody. 455hp motor doesn’t have supercharger. Weaker ones have electric superchargers.
