2022 Volkswagen Golf GTE Review - Decent enough?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2022 Golf is now available in GTE spec as well, which basically means you can buy a 245 PS car that can also go around town on electricity alone. Being a PHEV, the Golf GTE is definitely a very interesting choice for many, but does it rise up to the expectations? We find out in this review.

Look, i'll say that this was a decent review, with plenty of accurate information - but.. You're testing a PHEV. Bloody charge it. Any information that you gave in regards to fuel consumption is just pointless - you drove a basic 1.4 TSI DSG for over 300km, which happens to be almost 200kg heavier than the actual basic Golf. For comparison, i did an extended test drive over here in the UK, roughly 100 miles round trip (we had trouble finding a GTE demonstrator too, so had to drive quite some distance to get a test drive) - my guess would be around 50% motorway, 30% A and B road, rest city limits. We got the car fully charged, and had it depleted by the time we got back to the dealership - 124mpg on the clock when we turned the car off. That's what, around 2l/100km. Out of those miles, we drove almost 50 miles electric - the predictive cruise control/sat nav does absolutely work. Needless to say, we ordered one. Downside of course, we ordered in Nov 21, still haven't even gotten a build date yet, so fuck me on that one. Sorry, but it's a pet peeve - don't review PHEVs if you can't be bothered to use them as you're supposed to. Which is charging it overnight. You even pointed it out, since you can't charge it, you'd get a normal Golf. The GTE isn't "normal", so driving it like a normal one and using those data points for your review is just not informative.

I guess you weren't paying attention... I did drive it both charged and depleted. I mentioned all the scenarios. I didn't get even close to 50 miles of electric range. All I could squeeze out of it was closer to 25 miles and that was around town. As I mentioned in the video, the fuel consumption over the first 100 kilometers, including the first 40 km done on electric power alone, was 4.4 l/100 km. That's not bad but not close to the official claims. And I said it like a million times, not just in this review: a PHEV must be charged and used as such. Otherwise you're just carrying around a lot of extra weight for no reason.

Why do car makers still put shiny gloss black surfaces in cars when all the feedback every.single.time is customers don’t like it as it’s attracts fingerprints and scratches ?

It's a cheap solution to make the interior look more expensive. On the long run, it doesn't shape up nicely at all...
