I feel that Toyota needs to set the TRD Pro apart more by adding a different bumper with more clearance and tow hooks and maybe larger more aggressive tires

19/20/21 for the hybrid Tundra Pro is LESS than I expected. The $68,500 price tag is MORE than I expected.

I'd love to see a 2022 vs 2021 TRD OR test... wonder just how much difference the new platform makes.

It is interesting that the Canadian TRD Off road package includes 18’’ wheels rather than the 20’’ US versions has. I much prefer the 18’’ option for off roading.

I think Toyota dropped the ball with that low hanging front bumper, and no front recovery hooks.

Good choice. I’m leaning that way also. I’m on my second tundra now. I had the K02’s. They performed amazing in snow and dirt. But when I was towing my boat or side by side, if the roads were wet, they would break traction easily from a start. I almost couldn’t be in tow mode because the tundra wants to go. And I tried my hardest to really really ease on the throttle. But they still spun. I’ve got trail grapplers now and I don’t have that issue.

@@jbw5485 Where I live it is a must. Right now I have over four feet of snow here in 🇨🇦. I do use mine a few times a year to help pull out people that are stuck. Also when I go to my lake where roads are not plowed regularly.It helps. So ya it is very important to me and others with my kind of climate. Plus in summer in certain off road areas it’s a must. That’s why so many people are frustrated with Toyota not having them. Wether it’s for looks or practicality.

Don't forget to buy a real truck while you're at it, cause you would have to be gullible or completely ignorant to buy this sub par outdated truck that has zero innovation and literally went backwards in many areas, like now being worst in class in almost every category. Worst in class turning radius now, worst in class interior dimensions, worst in class in head room, visibility is worse due to the rake. So between the poor visibility and much larger turning radius this thing is noticeably harder to maneuver in every environment. Add in the seats are too short so they are uncomfortable, the entry handles are to small and prettyuch unusable. The interior lighting is still super dim, the tail gate is harder for egress/ingress then every other truck on the market include the previous gen Tundra, the iforce motor was already out paced by Fords, granted the difference was nominal, but think about that, it's a brand new truck that they had 15ys to make, but it can't compete with last yrs model, and overall this truck barely competes against 2020 models from the big three. Why did they put the crawl control right next to the cup holders where we all spill drinks and food, they had a ton a dash real-estate, so literally zero common sense there. The Sienna mini van has a 1500w inverter, but the premiere work truck from Toyota has only 400w that will barely power basic tools. That's just asinine! How about the poor payload capacity, nothing greT here, in fact the Ford Ranger has a ayload of 1904 and Tundras best is 1940, but most Tundra models are around 1600lb, that damn near the same as my 11 yr old Tundra, that just embarrassing. Why did they take all the storage space in the most capable off road version the TRD PRO, space is a premium when off road/camping and weight also an issue, but apparently these idiots didn't even bother to try and be innovative by putting the batteries under the bed like Rivian or be innovatiove and find a different place like between the cab and bed, or under the bed, but nope. Hell they didn't even bother to try and design extra storage like the ram power boxes. They could have at least give us the TRD PRO with the base model engine so it would be lighter and have plenty of storage space, but I guess that was way to complicated for the engineers to figure, but mostly likey they just didn't give a shit....I could keep going on as this piece of shit truck has an absurd amount of miss fires. Toyota should be embarrassed and only a gullible tool would buy one of these....and this is coming from a die hard fan who owns a Tundra and wanted to buy a TRD PRO in 2019, but wait 3yrs for this, only to be let completely let down

Reasons to not spend the bigger bucks on a TRD Pro and get a TRD Off Road instead...the Off Road can do 90% (I'd wadger up to 95%) of what the Pro is capable of for much less. Plus, you know the dealer mark-ups on the Pro will likely be nuts. So, if you're not going to be doing the faster desert running, just like the Pro was designed for, get the Off Road 👍🏻

These new Tundras are really growing on me, but, they really need recovery hooks, auto 4wd, and a more appropriate tire/wheel package for the TRD Off Road version. Maybe another 1 or 2 inches of lift as well. I mean, it’s the Off Road model, right? Ford, Chevy and Ram all offer that. My F150 FX4 has the auto 4wd which I use whenever it’s rainy or not enough snow to go normal 4x4 high. Also when just casual cruising on dirt roads. Really enjoy your vids Andre!

lol working hard !! driving around the woods in a borrowed truck. talking about 2wd vs 4wd he must have to go home and sleep for days to recover

Both seem hardly like off roaders. No suspension travel, low ground clearance and a long wheel base. Good for long highway drives and a dirt path to a cabin but I can’t picture this going up right logging roads for secluded camping. I’ll stick with my manual Tacoma

A smaller narrow Tacoma helps a lot for tight trails. My 2021 Tacoma TRD 4X4 Premium with only 50 miles on it when off road and I end up on a very tight trail. The scratching noise was killing me but now I don't care anymore. Amazing that those Tacomas can do. The weight helps a lot too.

OTOH you're not gonna put two dirt bikes in the bed and hook up a 6k lb travel trailer in your Taco to get to a desert staging area to set up basecamp and then go rip. No matter what the Tundra was never gonna be a midsized truck. It might not fit your use case, but it's nice to have the option.

Yes, between the EV warning sound and the constant beeping from proximity sensors it destroys any sense of being in nature. Seems like these should be disabled in 4-low.

Still think Toyota needs to put the front end of the Sequoia on the Tundra. Looks way better.

@@robertoramos8257 it’s basically the same thing but they color match the trim and bottom bumper. The grill isn’t as big as everyone thinks but it looks bigger because they black out the bumper where it meets the grill

it's actually a really easy choice to make since the odds of actually acquiring a TRD Pro will be *VERY* difficult.

6:36 I wonder who will be the first to put 2 cameras up front to try and provide/simulate depth perception. With the 3D displays being brought out, I think only time until we see that type of feature.

And that begs the question, is there really any way for any of the 1/2 tons to stand out anymore, it's down to hair splitting in the segment. If they push the tech or features too much they get too expensive even for what is already a very expensive segment.

@@scotturich Toyota is primarily a car company. They don't sink anywhere near the r&d into the trucks that Ford or Ram do but they still make a great truck. Honestly Ford and Ram should be miles ahead of Toyota and they are not.

Silent mode is not silent at all! I would rather hear the engines. Which sound great. To answer the question, yes you get more, but you don't need what the PRO offers over the OR. The extra $$$$ for the PRO to do the same thing the OR can do is a waste for those wanting to save $ and customize to personal tastes. The flashy logos and the bilstein is not worth it for me. I will take an OR with the KDSS and call it good. :)

I had a hybrid Highlander and it would emit that noise when the engine was off, just so people can hear you coming, otherwise you could easily run someone over because they wouldn't hear your car coming.

I have an ‘05 Tundra with just over 100k miles. Love it and wish Toyota still made a smaller model Tundra like the first gen.

Good video. One thing you didn't mention is the road drive quality between Off Road and TRD Prod. You did an acceleration test, but which vehicle handled road bumps, road noise, pot holes the best? In addition to off roading, these will be used for daily commutes so how are they on the road? I heard that the TRD Pro may be noiser on the road due to the tires?

@@gerritvonholt2330 There’s legit NO reason other than slightly better MPGs. To me personally, that’s not even close to enough. Even $60k starting would’ve been too much for the Tundra TRD pro, it can’t even keep up with a $53k Tremor.

I was waiting for the new Tundra but lucked upon a like new 2018 with 20k miles, still under extended factory warranty even. I have zero regrets about not waiting. The Raptor really is in another league.

I can't wait for this the review with this new TRD Pro, Chevy Silverado ZR2, GMC Sierra AT4X, and Ford F150 Tremor.

Did I miss the tow rating on the Pro? According to Toyota specs, the payload of the pro is much higher than listed in the door, so are they also overstating the tow rating on their website? People who want to tow a little heavier than a Raptor or TRX might be OK with a Pro if it has closer to 10k capacity but likely not if it is comparable.

The payload capacity on the spec sheet is for a bone stock version with the absolute best suspension springs. When the truck gets built, it might get some mid-tier springs based on luck of the draw. Then you start throwing on modern vehicle options: your giant infotainment screens, your enormous heavy plates of glass on your roof, your powered everything, etc, etc. And thus your trucks remaining cargo capacity goes from 1800 to 1355.

Toyota has a loyal buyer base who are going to eat these up... but frankly it feels like Toyota is lagging behind the competition off-road. 20" wheels on the TRD Off-Road must be Toyota's idea of a sick joke. The TRD Pro not having either a front LSD or front locker puts it behind Ford and GM (a real shame since Toyota offers a front locker in the LC300, which shares the same platform as the Tundra). The approach angle is poor due to the new Tundra's chin... and apparently Toyota can't be bothered to design a high clearance front bumper for its off-road trucks... a thing every other brand does. The ground clearance seems behind Tremor, Raptor, ZR2, etc. as well. No recovery hooks on an off-road trucks? See to me this tells the story... off-road was not a top priority, they were still designing with MPG in mind for the TRD Pro... The new Tundra seems like a great on-road option... but these off-road trims are not competitive.

@@fritty9927 Seems to lag the competition from the perspective too. No high clearance bumper, no visible skid plates, no recovery hooks, etc. which are all hallmarks of the modern "off-road truck." Toyota has changed the grill pattern and color matched some bumper pieces but its otherwise the same exterior shape as the lower trims. Plus since the TRD Pro will only be available with the hybrid and a top spec interior its going to be priced near a base F-150 Raptor. Which it can't compete with in either off-road performance or sheer street presence. Honestly my feeling is that Toyota simply knows they have more than enough brand loyalist to sell every TRD Pro (usually with a mark up) they can build and therefore the costs to actually compete in off-road performance isn't worth it.

For the type of off roading you will do with a stock 1/2 ton they're fine. Full size trucks are too big to fit on jeep trails, and anyone serious about a pre-runner type truck for desert wheeling is not going to use a stock suspension, they're going to install a long travel aftermarket setup and likely go up to 37 inch tires. Though I do agree the pro should have a front locker or LSD, frankly the pro is a rip off just like it's always been, $10,000 premium for $1500 in parts, but if you care about resale you pony up anyway since TRD pros appreciate

TRD OFFROAD for me if I had to choose. Is a better price especially if you get it in the SR5 platform. It gets all the same off road system from the locking diff to craw control. You can get it with a proper standard 6.5 size bed. The last reason I don't purposely go offroad as a hobby like some people. The only time I would go off road is when I'm going hunting season or go ice fishing driving on the frozen lake. But most of the time I'm driving on normal road.

$66k starting for the TRD Pro??? Hahaha Toyota is crazy for that!! This does not compete with the Raptor in performance and in my opinion neither in looks. I really was liking the Tundra but no way would I pay $66k for it. It’s about $15k more than the previous TRD pro model…. They messed up with that price.

My 21 trd pro lr just went up in value after seeing the 22 trd pro. Not impressed with the price tag, mpgs, towing, and or payload, hybrid was suppose to better the mpgs, all that extra horsepower and torque for what reason to go 2 mph off road, if i wanted to race I would buy a sports car. Nothing to see here, let's wait for the next generation.

I'd go with the Tacoma Off-Road.

Surely I'm not the only one that wishes they had 6.5 bed on the trd pro....

When you buy a TRD Pro, does a spotter come included with the truck to help with ground clearance checking?😅 At a quick glance, it looks like there's only about a $4K difference between a TRD Pro and a Limited equipped like a TRD? I think I'd pay the $4K for the wheels and suspension, as well as resale value.

I really like most of the new interior. I can foresee dirt, food, and grime getting into that transfer case selector switch however.

Has Toyota addressed the waste gate issue's these Tundras are having?

I’m really liking that feature also. I noticed some lights in the rear bumper at the hitch area. I’m serious if those are to aid in hooking up a trailer at night.

Raptor is the big boy while Tremor is the little brother, and this TRD pro can’t even keep up with the Tremor, much less Raptor. Can’t even hang with the Tremor in pricing.

im leaning towards ordering.. Platinum with trd offroad package and Toyota factory 3" lift.. if i cant do platinum with 1794.. and trd running boards.. hybrid engine as well. cant wait to hear more.. BUT ZR2 is damn temping...

If you had $65,000 dollars and were looking for a do it all truck (work: drive around 2,000 miles a month, hunting/camping, other hobbies) and wanted a 4 door with 6.5ft bed, which truck would you be purchasing???? Ford with powerboost or 2022 Toyota Tundra??? Or is there another truck you would prefer?! Thank you for your time! I am looking forward in hearing your opinion!

My TRD Offroad has 18-inch wheels. Not sure why it's difficult other than regional? I recall prior years TRD Offroad meant 18-imch and TRD Sport is 20-inch.

If we factor Chevy & GMC as separate products, then the Tundra will be 5th place in sales (in the full-size segment). I’m amazed that you guys are giving the Tundra so much air time, given it’s lack of competitiveness. Almost leads me to believe that these are paid promotions & that’s fine - you guys deserve whatever income streams you can field. All these videos confirm that Ford & Ram will outsell Toyota by significant margins; the GM twins too.

It blows my mind why Toyota has an issue with giving people a locking diff.

Did you show the payload for the the TRD Off-Road or just the TRD-Pro? I saw the TRD-Pro was 1,355. I would also likely choose the TRD Off-Road because it likely has more payload and tow capacity.

I appreciate the effort but these synthetic "off-road" courses do nothing for me and prove very little. 6:11 shows how they put gravel down in their "rock" section to maximize traction. The entire course is groomed.

First it's an electric motor not engine. Second the sound you hear is a speaker not the motor. It's for safety so the blind or vision impaired can still detect the presence of electric vehicles. This is what give the distinct sound of Toyota hybrids.

Or just wait for gmc at4x and get a front locker as well and a v8.

The Ford Tremor is a closer competitor to the TRD Pro than the Raptor and the Tremor starts at $52k.

To top it off, the Tremor is also more capable too. Toyota is out of their mind with that Raptor-like pricing. This Tundra can’t even hang with a Tremor that’s $14k cheaper.

I would immediately replace the front bumper on the trd pro and get an ADD bumper when it's released

Can the beeps be turned off? Those alerts make me more nervous than anything.

Disappointing that Toyota waits this long for a new Tundra and then doesn’t even compete. It’s a good truck, but there are great ones to choose from.

I'm somewhat sad that technology is taking the fun out of old school 4x4 daily use. Rock crawling was not a daily use nor a concern in my days. Just get out and enjoy the fun on having to do it all with friends.

The prices in California for these trucks are very expensive, I saw 3 Limited ones and they didn't have panoramic sunroof, they didn't have crowl control and they were priced around $65,000 I only saw one with crowl control and panoramic sunroof but it had a price of $ 72,000 same as a 1794 EDITION. and the TRD PRO are not cheaper than $78,000 some dealers have them priced for $85,000 plus taxes and fees. 😀

I had thought possibly of getting the tundra but not sure what trim. but I don't care about the high speed of the vehicle. Just a good hunting, camping rugged truck

Offroad models should offer better 18” wheel options. Cmon toyota were trying to be loyal customers! Looking forward to durability tests of the new drivetrain! Thanks guys

The Pro interior looks better than the limited/platinum with TRD option. I prefer the darker dash paneling.

Come on Andre, you have an entire section dedicated to the TRD Pro’s ground clearance and you don’t actually say what that ground clearance is. Still a great video. The TRD Pro had been on my shopping list but I think a Tundra with the TRD Off Road would be more suitable in Colorado. I also appreciate you mentioning the future lift kit. I would definitely get that with some 35s.

Andre mentions that they have 9, 9 and a half inches of ground clearance. He mentions that on the first run.

I think you meant for Ford tremor not raptor for off-road but admit really like the TRD PRO

The reason I would go for the Pro? It just looks much better than the off-road and come resale time! The Pro will command a premium!

I would def go with the TRD OR, pro is a waste of money, it’s only good for resale value, it’s a nice truck, but the TRD OR has all the capabilities the pro has, would love to have the 1794 with the TRD OR package

In a normal world (when we go there again), I wonder who would buy the TRD Pro when they can buy the Raptor or the ZR2 instead? Sixty-six grand is a lot of coins for that truck.

@@mini2nut67 Yeah, it feels like we will never go back to those days when we can walk to a dealership and hassle for 4 hours and get a great deal. But, I think that those days will come back sooner than most of us think. So, if you are not in a rush to buy a truck or car, just wait.

Why do people always do slow test drives with the TRD Pros? TRD Pros, since they have come out were designed for fast driving, not slow rock crawling, etc.

Which tundra model has the best on road comfort ride?

Is no one gonna talk about that incessant beeping?? As if those sensors don't turn off in off road modes. No way I'm spending that much on a truck for it to talk shit to me like that.

This is so frustrating. Does Toyota even know what other trucks do? I can turn on my Dodge’s rear locker in 4wd high and 2wd. Do they keep their engineers locked in a basement?

I'm hoping that if can be something that can be messed with in software, like a tuner may be able to go in and enable it in any mode.
