My arctic white 2016 Tundra TRD pro gets compliments almost everyday. So many people love the way it looks for simply adding some KO2 and custom LED headlights. Amazing “old” school truck

Been waiting now for 5 years for this "next gen" Tundra. The specs can only improve over my 14' Limited Tundra. It's going to be hard to see the V-8 go...I tow a 8,000 RV trailer which the current Tundra can well handle, but I wouldn't go any bigger. Hitch capacity is only 980 lbs, a few hundred pounds below the Big 3. Payload of 1400 lb, again 100's of pounds below the Big 3, Towing capacity 9,900, again a few 1,000 below the big 3. Here is where the rumored twin turbo "might" have trouble in the towing specs. Ford's Ego-boost can tow a zillion pounds, but to get there, the engine has to rev much higher to get the torque numbers. I get 9.5 mpg towing, while a friend has about the same RV, gets 7.2 while towing with the Eco-boost. And until you actually start using it to tow, your not going to know just what you have. Yes, it does really depend how you tow, how fast, how aggressive. Some Eco-boost users get 6.5 towing...

The EcoBoost doesn't rev high....hate to break it to you. It revs less than any V8 pulling. It spools up....and burns gas tho. Having owned a 6.2L 8 speed and now 2 F150 Ecoboosts I can compare the best half ton V8 to an EcoBoost. The EB indeed does burn more gas pulling than the 6.2L did.....but pulls amazing. In tow haul mode between the quiet engine and turbos you really dont feel the powertrain labor....ever Empty mpg for both was pretty close but running premium in the 6.2L(recommended and in my case neccessary) made fuel costs higher. Less than 25% of my yearly mileage is towing....so less fuel economy doing it is irrelevant for me.....and probably for most people. If you are pulling a recreational trailer for thousands and thousands of miles a year with a gas powered truck you are doing it wrong. I dont keep trucks for more than 6 years so I really dont care about longevity either....again most people nowadays dont keep vehicles forever either. So all in all a twin turbo in the Tundra doesn't concern me a bit. The EcoBoost is an awesome engine.....I haven't had much go wrong with either of mine. Big power, pretty good empty mpg, effortless pulling ability....if Toyota comes out with a twin turbo as good I'd be happy. And I could give a shit what it sounds like.🙄

“Best in class World beater” that’s a lot to expect from a company that basically sat on their hands for 14 years! I could believe they did not add 1 extra horsepower to the engine or improve its poor offset crash worthiness. I would be surprised if they hit 500 horsepower, although back in 2007 the power output was exceptional for a 1/2 ton pickup. I wish them all the best and welcome a more competitive product offering.

It looks like the new Tundra will have upgrades everywhere that it counts on a truck. Higher payload and towing, better mpg. That's what i care about the most. If the price is right ill be getting one by 2023 to join my current Tundra

I am just worried that with these changes - the idea of having this truck last past 200k-400k will not continue. I owned a ram and silverado so far and by far, the silverado is the worst one out of the two. Problem after problem with transmission issues at 10k miles. I will be in the market for another truck in 2022; however, if they add a turbo, I won't be buying the new model as I want longevity.

I love my 2016 Tundra 5.7 V8. The new 2021 loses the V8 to a V6 is a mistake. 😢Gas mileage is only for average driving,if you pull something and kick in the Turbos the gas mileage will definitely suffer. Then throwing a hybrid into the mix and pricing will increase significantly. Hope they keep the V8 as a option motor for the Tundra as Ford has kept their V8 5.0 for the F150🤔😯

I've owned several Toyota's for their reliability. My current vehicle is a 2011 Sequoia with over 275,000 miles and it's still drives like a newer truck (steering is tight, motor is still responsive). I've had very few issues. That said, I will not be buying another Toyota truck if the speculation holds true. I frankly don't care if the hp, payload, and towing capacity increases for 2022. If Toyota doesn't offer a larger displacement engine or a diesel option I'm out. Say what you will about a twin turbo V-6, there is no replacement for displacement. I want a real truck, not one with coil spring rear suspension and a forced induction engine. Neither of those things will last 100,000 miles. Toyota has a chance to take a big slice of the market if they play their cards right. The speculative changes are not what real truck owners want. Nissan had a darn good truck with their Titan XD 5 litre Cummins. That truck was a true heavy half-ton, and more people should have given it the accolades it deserves. I think people didn't give the Titan XD a chance because of the Nissan name. If Toyota had built a truck like the Titan XD it would've been a different story. If Toyota doesn't offer something closer to a heavy-duty truck I will be looking at another brand.

I agree - so far I owned two trucks: 2017 ram 1500 big horn (loved it) but had to replace it because my wife needed an SUV to drive kids around. I missed having a truck around, so I leased a Silverado 2019 1500 LT to see how Chevy is - as I would keep it afterwards (the incentives were so good). Boy am I glad I leased this truck, as I have transmission issues since 10k miles, windy cabin noise when on the highway; a brandished title (with a lease) due to the dealer fat fingering the milage (almost two years later - it's still not fixed). Overall, just so much trouble that I will be just returning it after my lease is over. I love the idea that I can have a truck last me over 100k to 200k; and I just don't see it from Chevy; however, if they do replace this engine, I don't see it from the Thundra either. I worried about the turbo and the reliability with these upcoming changes.

Enjoyed the video with I’ve owned Toyota trucks since 1989’model. Gas mileage is terrible in my 2015 tundra limited 4x4. Towing 10-11 miles per gallon. I gotta get better mileage on highway trips. I don’t tow all the time either just seasonal. Mowers tractor to hunting club. I drive 50 miles one way to HC too. Which eats a hole in my pocket book 5-6 months a year. I just can’t continue to do this on a retired teachers pension. So I am coming to a cross roads. A better full size truck (btw I hate the Tacoma’s) if Toyota don’t up the mileage I’m gonna be forced to go with a GMC 3.0 Liter Diesel or Ram Diesel. I’m 61 and I miss the 30 mpg smaller 4 cylinder trucks 5 speed What the hell happened to the 1980’s Toyota and Nissan (Datsun) had it right. Cheaper small trucks will be in demand if the USA continues to vote in Democrats who stop using USA oil. I need 28-30 mpg highway in a truck. Question is will Toyota or GM give me one that I like to drive???

It is going to be hard, almost impossible to unseat Ford as the number 1 full size truck. MAYBE, with pickups now having become "car" replacements, it is possible. But if trucks were still to be used as work vehicles, good as the Toy is, long time construction people, service folks and the like are imbedded in the Ford, and to a lesser extent GM and Ram vehicles and "culture". Ford ceded the small (mid-size) truck market when they quit producing the Ranger. They ain't ABOUT to make that mistake again. I expect Toyota to hit a home run with the 2022. That said it ain't gonna be a bases loaded grand slam. Ford has TOO MUCH going for it. And Toyota, as always, is playing catch up. A LOT to be said for caution. Allows for bullet proof vehicles over the long term. But innovation is good too, Anybody remember the Prius? THAT is what Toy needs to do. The Prius introduced an entire new vehicle to us. Who NOW doesn't build hybrids?

"old" really? Aluminum dual overhead cam 32 valve V8. This 5.7L is an amazing engine. Producing power levels that's impressive 14 years later. The truck has an awesome 4:30 rear differential and a (bullet proof) six speed. fuel economy might improve if it had an 8speed but who cares. You do realize that some of the other competitors still run push rod V8's, that's old.
