2022 Orbea Orca M20i Team - First Look and Details

Спорт

We take a look at the fantastic 2022 Orbea Orca M20i Team Road Bike equipped with the all new Shimano Ultegra Di2 12 speed groupset. A fantastic bike with some great features. The cable routing is elegant as is the seat post clamp. Small details, but in a world of small margins, these little details add up to a big reason to love this bike.

I have this bike, same colour too. I’ve swapped the bars for Shimano pro vibe SL Carbon, I’ve get a pair of CES sport RC 50mm Carbon wheels, I’m currently using Vittoria Corsa N-EXT tyres however I’ve used Pirelli P zero and Michelin Power Road ( these appear to be the fastest) , I’ve cut the head tube and slammed the stem . It’s coming in at around 7.8 kg on a 55 frame. I feel the upgrades hugely improved performance. I have no designs on getting a new best bike as this is mine, and I’ll never ever be lacking in performance. I’m 51 putting in around 16k a year. Highly recommended bike however as mentioned in the video the stock wheels are pretty heavy.

Hi Gareth, sounds like you have made some very sensible upgrades, and now have a real whip on your hands, congratulations! Not familiar with the wheels, but looks like they are Welsh so must be good, and the numbers suggest they are a good upgrade to the original ones. Thanks for the comment and hope you continue to enjoy the bike for many years.

Lovely to see an in depth walk through of this frame / model. Curious if you have experience with how ultegra mechanical groupsets shift with the cables routed through the stem as they are - I hear about shifting performance on some mechanical groupsets with integrated cable routing in the stem, but am looking for info about this frame particularly. Cheers!

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Shifting certainly isn’t a problem with the cable routing in this bike. Have done a short video of the same bike but 105 RD to show how clean it is: kzread.infopbUoqe_OuFg?feature=share

An excellent review - thanks for posting it. You mention the option of a raised post for the handlebars to make it more of an 'endurance' posture. I can't find anything about this option on the Orbea site or anywhere else - can you expand on it please, including any potential cost of having it added ?

Hi David, thank you for the positive feedback. It is the bar itself that has a rise in it, so the stem remains the same. If you were ordering the bike directly from Orbea you would be able to choose between the two bars when selecting the bike (at no extra cost). However, buying directly from Orbea with a change to the norm could, at the moment, mean a significant lead time. Availability of the bars to stores isn't clear at the moment, but any good store would be willing to swap the bars out for you for free, as long as they are available. There is a good picture in the description of the M20i Team on our website - which has one side of the bar as flat, and the other as the riser bar so you can clearly see the difference between the two: www.wecycle.co.uk/bikes/road-bikes/2022-orbea-orca-m20i-team-ultegra-di2-12-speed-carbon-road-bike__23399

I have this bike on order from Orbea, I did change a few bits using the MyO system, I’ve gone for better wheels, carbon handlebars and some other upgrades….Have to wait until at least end of April though apparently because they can’t get the group sets from Shimano

Hi Michael, I think it will be worth the wait (but hope you mean April 2022 not 2023!)

Hello, great review on the OMR, do you happen to know how much the fork, seatpost, stem and handlebar weight?

Hey Arthur, thanks for the question, but I'm afraid I don't know and don't have one in pieces to weigh it for you. If we get one stripped down I'll be sure to stick it on the scales.

Hello great review. I want to buy this bike but I can't decide on the frame size, 57 or 60, as opinions are very different. I am 190 cm tall, I tried both sizes, I feel fine in both. What is your opinion?

At last, a review of this model. How much does this bike weight? And since the shifters are now wireless, did you feel a difference in shifting speed? I've tested a bike with Sram Force a month ago and felt it was a bit slower than the Dura Ace Di2 I have (the all wire version)

Hi Fabio, thanks for the comment. We have changed the wheels over to Zipp 303s, but have just weighed it with those on and it was 7.8kg. Shifting wise the shifting is FAST! it's 53% faster than the previous Ultegra Di2, and I don't know the numbers but have force on my gravel bike and it is definitely faster than that, especially on the front derailleur.

@@wecycle384 that's certainly a reasonable weight for the OMR. I've been configuring the M20i Team in MyO and have choosen (but not yet bought it :) ) carbon wheels, Vittoria Rubino Pro IV G2.0 700x25c and the carbon integrated handlebar...hopefully the weight comes down to 7.6kgs or something if possible since it's important for someone who rides in a very hilly place and I'm also at the 55cm frame size so that counts too. And good to know about the shifting speed...I've tried a bike with SRAM Force last month and I certainly noticed the difference for Shimano.

Does anybody knows about the weight of m20i? I heard it's really heavy, like 8.7kg or something like that. There is no info of weight of Orbea products, probably because they are way heavier then the competitors

Hi, weight is 8.27kg (for a 55) so certainly isn't a really heavy bike and is in line with other bikes of this ilk.

How comfortable is this bike compeared to a endurance bike?

  • @wecycle384

    @wecycle384

    2 жыл бұрын

Hi Christian, I would say it has the potential to be very comfortable, or more aggressive, depending on how you set it up. Put on some larger volumed tyres (which it has the capacity for) and some upward sweeping bars and you instantly change the comfort level and riding position.

Full integration may look nice at first glance. But A) the aero benefits are marginal, if existent at all, given how fat stems have to be to hide all cables/hoses inside B) it's a pain in the ass to service that stuff and even more so to get replacement for the proprietary parts in case they get damaged B) Bet that in a few years when that fad is over, you won't miss it at all.
