2022 Nissan Rogue SV AWD NEW ENGINE 1.5L 3 Cylinder VC Turbo Review, Test Drive and First Look

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

At first glance the 2022 Nissan Rogue SV AWD shows nothing too. Under the hood however we see a new 1.5L 3 Cylinder VC Turbo Engine. Yes this Nissan has been in several Nissan and Infiniti vehicles before but does it fit in well in Nissan's best selling cross over. We had to show you with our test drive, review and first. Is it a step up from the lethargic 2.5L cylinder? With more power output and better fuel economy it seems Nissan has found the sweet new home for the Variable Compression Turbo Engine!

We just took this 2022 Rogue for a test drive last week. We drove it after driving the Rav4, CX5, Tucson, Forrester and the CRV among others. I have to say that the Rogue really was far nicer than all of the others in many ways. That new turbo engine was very peppy and had a lot of giddy-up when you accelerated, and the CVT transmission far exceeded the others we have tried. The engine and cabin noise was really quite, and the seats were defiantly the most comfortable out of all the others we had test drove. With the combination of the soft ride, low cabin noise and great seats, my wife said the ride felt like she was in a luxury vehicle. The only negatives were the two-tone tan and gray interior colors were kind of ugly and don't really go together that well, and the fact this is the first year production of the new engine design, and while I didn't think of it before, I have read comments from other people saying that there may be problems with it, and it's complexity down the road which makes me a little worried if we were to buy one. Over all, it was a great vehicle and we really enjoyed driving it. Defiantly in the top 4 cars for purchase consideration.

The turbo engine is very closely related to the 2.0 VC Turbo engine found in the QX50 and Altima so this engine has already been proven to a greater extent than a brand new fresh design

@@tonyn152 If it helps, the engine and the technology aren't actually all that 'new', just new for this car. It's based on a 1.5L turbo that Nissan started developing in the early 2010's and put in a hybrid Le Mans racecar in 2014, and that engine produced 400hp and 285lb-ft. So Nissan is not new to making reliable power out of small turbo engines. As far as the CVT goes, they swapped the belt out for a chain, re-engineered it, and consumer complaints have pretty much disappeared since 2017. I can personally attest that the new engine with the stronger trans and the paddle shifters with the new refreshed 'ratios' is way more fun than it deserves to be.

Thanks for putting this review out so quickly I've been waiting for these to come in for folks to make videos on. I didn't know that Nissan switched to a chain instead of a belt for the CVT. I believe Subaru uses a chain for their CVTs and theirs don't have any of the problems that older Nissan belt driven ones had so I'm optimistic about this one. I upgraded from a 2016 last week, and if you do... I can hand on heart tell you you won't be disappointed. The difference in engine and trans is night and day. The 1.5 is eager, and I actually enjoy this cvt. I get in looking forward to paddle shifting my way around the corners knowing they've engineered it to be almost bullet-proof. Honestly it's cheesy fun but way more fun that it deserves to be. The only complaint I have is that I'm not getting anywhere near the MPG because it's so much fun to hustle around in I have to remind myself to take it easy lol. EDIT: That's not even starting in on the new interior, which is amazing. I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't 100% sold on a Rogue again and was looking hard at a Mazda or a RAV. I wanted and hoped that Nissan would earn it this time, and they really really did. Knocked it out of the park.

Hi Chis. I have not watched your vids in awhile but saw 3 cylinder Rogue? I thought oh no. But looking up the specs I'm thinking this may be the first real good innovative ICE moto for Nissan in decades. 225 lbs of torque out of a three cylinder. WOW. I like CVT's for smaller vehicles like this. Only draw back is you have some lag off the start along with the turbo. But not really a big deal. This will definitely keep up with the flow of traffic. With CVT you just want to allow the smoothness of acceleration. The only geared transmission that is better then any CVT in both smoothness and performance is the ZF 8 speed. But your going to pay a ton for that. BMW uses it and my X3 is an example where a geared transmission can perform better then any CVT. But the price point is not easily reached by most buyers. This is definitely Nissan's bread and butter. I like to see them invest in plug in hybrid/hybrid ASAP. Because they are far behind.

  • @carsunlocked

Thanks HiPlains we always appreciate you! I was really impressed with the new engine and during the drive i knew it was an improvement. Your right about the turbo lag but hey you take the good with the bad. Nissan hybrid tech is certainly behind and they have gone all in on the electric.
