The Trofeo version it would have been much more appropriate for this comparison. However cannot undestand the persistence against the components sharing in the FCA group; the interiors of this big merceds are the same of the A class which cost 4 time less.

The Trofeo MSRP is is 167k. The GLE 63s is 118k. So Trofeo would not be comparable for the price.

How would the trofeo lose to the Benz if both have the same 0-60 time , It would definitely be a close race , trofeo got it top end fs , gle limited at 174 . Trofeo 187 . And who cares abt the performance, everybody drives a damn Mercedes, The trident speaks for itself it’s elegant and unique

I’d like to see this again but with the Trofeo model. The Merc is the top trim while the GTS isn’t the top trim for Maserati. I’d like to see both top trims race each other.

@@brdavis it’s not the perfect comparison because price range doesn’t matter trim does. If you have the highest trim merc racing against a the second top trim of Maserati it’s not a fair comparison. If price range comparisons mattered then comparisons like Corvette Z06 or ZR1 Wouldn’t matter cause their price range would never match a high end Ferrari, Lamborghini, Etc. Trim not price range.

Why not Levante Trofeo vs Gle 63amgS and Levante GTS vs Gle 53amg?..and what about driving emotion?

The GLE is the classic car that a boring 60 yo man would drive. He probably plays golf too. That is what I find so off about the GLE. The classic, boring German SUV. Again again and again. It’s a good car, but not for my lifestyle!

Even we know that Maserati has less tech as a modern car comparing to Mercs and other brands, people choose Maserati because of the passion it provides during the drive and the character it makes.

Being the owner of a LeVante I love my car however if I were going for a smoother ride I would go with Mercedes.

23:28 - kindly disagree with ‘standard v8 biturbo’. It is a hand assembled piece of masterwork from Affalterbach with the mechanic’s signature displayed on the engine. Excellent review though!! Luv the concept of first comparing the exterior/ interior/ driving with subsequent drag races. Very enjoyable!

Why didn’t you get the Levante Trofeo lol why the Gts?

My mother recently got a levante trofeo, two things I quickly found out about it, it’s damn fast, and there’s only 22 trofeo models.

Do you realize it’s not that simple? It’s not like Sam just has it sitting and he doesn’t want to do the race lol. Gotta give him credit for getting all these races together and putting out all these videos.

I realize that the tendency for cars is to come equipped with loads of screens, but if I want to play with a tablet, I buy one, if I want to watch television I go to my living room, car is for the pleasure of driving, so in my opinion the Analog displays make perfect sense, they indicate speed, rotations, temperature and amount of fuel in the tank. LOL .... this is why I won't go back to Maserati. Loved my Levante GTS, but my new GLE 63s is just soooooo much better. Maserati was a total slug unless you had it in sport mode. Responsiveness was very disappointing. Also, just wasn't as comfortable seating. With my GLE 63s I rarely even put it in sport mode - don't need it.... it' a beast in any mode. And it's total luxury inside. I will say though that the paint on my Levante was the most beautiful factory paint I've ever seen. It looked like layers upon layers of gloss. Merc paint can't compare.

Nice Video. But strictly speaking not the only Ferrari-SUV. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio also has an engine developed in cooperation with Ferrri - just a V6, 2.9L, 510 hp but not less exciting!

You could not pay, and this is exactly what makes a maserati more special. It’s a status symbol like rolex, you pay more to show everyone you can afford more.

You not liking the physical gauge cluster might be more to do with your age, for the younger, who grew up with a screen in front of them; Its nice to see old school gauge that easy on the eyes. Maserati always was a part bin car, older ones had swtich gear from a Fiat Bravo. You fail to mention the Levante has leather sourced from Poltrona Frau, which is one of the highest quality on the game, yet you fail to mention the creaking issues of the GLE interior.

Coupe suvs look so bad! Especially the mercedes and bmw ones, also the new q5 sportback. Like if you like suvs get a normal one, if you like sportbacks or sedan get one, but coupy suvs... they pretty much remove all the trunk might as well get a car! But just my opinion! Im more of a car person of course

Because it’s Maserati and that’s it’s similar like a Ferrari you can’t compare with that Mercedes! You can choose Nissan GT 10 years old car 2.7 second 0-100 from factory, speed is not only why you pay a lot of money for car, same with the watches and other things I don’t understand how you don’t understand that…)))

In my humble opinion, this was an unfair drag race. The rightful competitor for GLE 63 S is Levante Trofeo, not GTS. It's more like racing Mercedes Benz C63s and M340i but great content nonetheless!

Yes, I struggled with the comparison. I do see GLE 63 VS X6M, but not the levante. Though to the trofeo is more money, it seems closer in power.

I like Maserati ,,,but the MB GLE 63S is another level , it’s my choice …I love it.

Sam out here cappin mat watson did the review on the trofeo he literally hit 0-60 in 3.7 seconds . Gts does it 4.0 . Let me see and uh the Benz does it in 3.7 seconds . Definitely would be a close race

Anyone who is in the market for the GLE, please don't buy the 'coupe' so Mercedes can stop making this eyesore! While I prefer the individual graphic elements on the rear, as a whole I'd stick with the less of a hunchback look of the Levante.

Yeah that is the airmatic suspension. I have an e550 that does the same to balance out the load. If i park up a drive way or load up the trunk with heavy luggage for example, the rear will rise to stay level. Helps the car drive mostly the same

Me, I never got how you can mix SUV and performance. Wagon's however are good!. Believe it or not in Canada, unlike the US, we can get an AMG C43 Wagon and at a more reasonable sticker than this GLE.

That c43 is just a biturbo v6 with only 429hp. Not the same feel or sound of the 63 range.

Great review, I think that Mercedes is beyond words, ugly. I believe it's referred to as the Turtle. Love the looks and essence of the Maserati. Who really cars about drag race comparison except teenage boys. I own a Mercedes-AMG car, can't help feeling it lacks passion, to the point that it feels like the daily driver it is. The Maser feels special and so do you when you drive one.

You are comparing the GTS an quoting the trofeo which has about 50 more hp. Run that against the Mercedes. Also most sports enthusiasts love a real instrument cluster and not an led screen.

Trofeo is the right candidate NOT GTS even though is not going to win but is closer to standard AMG.

As far as I know the Stelvio doesn’t use same engine as Ferrari engines, but yes it’s built by Ferrari

If one is using launch control and the other doesn't have it...its not a fair race comparison

As an AMG owner, I crave a Levante GTS... tech is not that important, you can't read all the numbers while driving, instead you can feel everything the car makes, and certainly the Maserati is way better. Additionally the GLE Coupe is ugly as hell, the Levante looks awesome!

For all of you, on Friday I just got my GTS, the only one in my country, 1/1 !!! I currently own a 2022 GLC43 AMG, an 2010 M3 e92 manual and I can tell you that every car is just special on it's own way. The GLC just explodes, sticks to the road almost as the M3 but the pull on the GTS is just frightening ! The scream on the M3 is awesome but the lack of torque living 2,600 above sea level is just frustrating! Certainly the GLE 63 (S) Coupe should give it's own feeling , but it looks so so ugly! I can't stand looking that monster! On the other hand, my GLC in white is such a looker! Next the GTS, with the front is a piece of art and the M3 is timeless with it's hump on the hood... Saludos desde Colombia!

Get to the race,I don't need to see a commercial

Buying an Italian car instead of a German or Japanese , is always an emotional decision. You don’t choose it out of rationalism. Just like art, it doesn’t have to be comfortable as long as you can appreciate the design and the feeling you get. Years ago I had driven in a row an Alfa Romeo 156 gta with a V6 busso engine before a bmw m3. The m3 was more stable and powerful , it was not even close to Alfa when it came to the excitement and joy when flooring it. It felt like the fastest F1 car while it wasn’t incredible fast. When compared on paper , the choice is easy but to know it , you have to drive them.

You do realize all this tech stuff you are raving about in the Mercedes gets forgotten pretty quickly, right? You will show it off to someone and then you will never use it again. Performance menus? How is that useful in real-life scenarios exactly?

I trally really like my Maserati Levante... it tells me it's a supercar whenever I am driving it. The merc GL series or my BMW 540i does not do that.

U go to some regular shops would get things maybe in better quality than Gucci or LV but buut, there is something about Prestige, dignity, luxury... that dosent have any price. Thats why a maserati is always maserati. Like for instance today how u look at a Benz from 20 or 30 years ago? But How about a Maserati from 20 years ago?? Now u get it.

The host lost all credibility by dinging the Maserati for having physical gauges. If I want to play on a computer, I’ll hide behind screens. Cars are physical and visceral.. not video games.

We also cross shopped this Maserati vs the Jag F Pace SVR. We ended up getting the SVR for my mom and it was such a clear choice. It's a hoot and a half, always puts a smile on your face when driving. And the interior doesn't feel like a Jeep

Let be more informing- Italian made is a simple made. Mercedes made is a real inside out detailing and digitally. There are many used Maserati Levante on sale at dealership- this indicating the pattern of dissatisfied customers with expensive Italian car makers.

The GLE is the better machine but the Levante beats it so badly in appearance that it is almost a tie overall. The Benz you can only enjoy while you are inside it as it is so horribly ugly; the Maserati you can enjoy by driving it as well as just by looking at it.

I'm not sure why you're comparing the highest performance Mercedes with the 550HP Maserati as the Mercedes has 600HP vs the 550HP of the Maserati. The Maserati Trafeo has 590HP and would be an excellent comparison but I can assure you the Maserati would win. I'm a big Mercedes fan so if we are talking about refinement and reliability I would go with the Mercedes every time. But if you are looking for an exotic Italian sports SUV with excellent performance then Maserati is the choice since we all must own an exotic sports car one time in our life.

If rather have analogue dials looks more sportier than electronics, more expensive to replace. Maserati has soul , Mercedes’ doesn’t have it
