And if you don't have a fast charger nearby it would take you 7 days to charge at home just to drive 2 hours!😂😂Mercedes should be ashamed of themselves. Almost no one that needs a van drives such short distances. What a waste that precious lithium could be used for something else.

When you think about it though, these vans, are meant more for city work, than anywhere else, where range really isn’t an issue. Just look at the new London Taxis, they don’t have a huge range either, yet that’s not an issue in London. 👍

So 90m 144km. One normal route 400km you need almost 4 charging. 1 h each fast charging 4 h to charge plus 4h drive. Perfect 8h whole day for 400km.wao big success

Hang on so a diesel van might do 40mpg on a motorway, that’s roughly 2.2 gallons of diesel to do 90 miles, how much is that? Around €13 To charge this electric van will cost more than that.

We had compliance cars, and now we are going to have compliance vans like this haha. Peugeot launching Boxer electric van in 2021 with a range (quoted) over 200mi. Seems like a more attractive proposition. I want to see Kia/Hyundai stretch the skateboard EV platform and see if they can get it to suit a large van.

That range is hugely disappointing. If it had a range of 400 or 500 KM, I would totally consider one for the purposes of a camper (even at the price listed) but 96 miles is just disappointing and even for town purposes is not super ideal.

If Tesla can make a battery pack on a tiny car in comparison (Tesla Model 3) that can go for about 220/310 miles, than Mercedes should absolutely be able to make an even larger battery pack on a giant car such as the sprinter! Would love to have an electric Esprinter but this 90 miles sprinter is a total waste of money and time I guess I'll wait for a couple of years until they take it seriously.

I get that they're looking for customers who need only short distances but it's a shame about the range. Being a mechanic or putting himself in the tradesman’s shoes, one would expect a more pov review (real time) Simply disappointing, but that is my opinion and that’s what matters to me.

  • @3DPeter

96 mile range on one charge. Well, that sucks then because taht is on a full charge, and a quick charge is only 80% so that's 77 miles extra, and from there you need to quick charge every 77 miles. And forget about pulling a 3 ton trailer, because that will set you back at least 30% in range if not way more. So there you go, take a 30 minute rest after every 45 miles with a trailer. Hell, electric vans have a long way to go before they can get a desent range with also a 3 ton trailer.

@2:32, “ With [faster charger], suddenly that 96 range doesn’t seem so limiting.” This guy is disingenuous. After battery degradation (5%), heating/cooling (10%), and range anxiety(15%), battery temperature related inefficiency (5%), your Sprinter EV has the real world range of : 96 * 0.65 = 62.4 miles without considering carrying a heavy load climbing a 5% grade. Essentially, this EV Van is good for one service call per day, with a round trip of 65 miles. You can’t earn enough money doing one service call per day with any work truck. Mercedes is ripping you off - its marketing plan is selling you a 100 kWh battery as replacement, soon to be followed by 150 and 200 kWh battery. Thus, this is the equivalent to the number game that Mercedes play on consumer

@@samf8074 Electricity is everywhere, slow chargers cost next to nothing, fast chargers cost up to 50 grand but are getting cheaper and there are more of them than petrol stations already. Van ranges are poor but the new cars coming to market tend to have pretty decent ranges now. I've just checked, of the twelve hydrogen filling stations in the UK, four are showing as out of order.

@@SquareoftheyearFM yes slow charges are cheap, that’s why nobody uses them and is partly the reason why PHEV vehicles are thought to be worse than a standard conventional engine regarding c02. Fast charging isn’t all too fast in reality when compared to fuelling a vehicle which is where it needs to be. You also have the issue where a high proportion of individuals will not be able to charge their vehicles overnight due to living in houses with street parking, which most people do. And yes a Tesla will offer a decent range of 270 (real world driving) which still isn’t great considering I have to wait 40 mins for my vehicle to charge. However most will never be able to buy a Tesla as they start from roughly 40,000 pounds. Yes there’s lots of electricity but no where near enough to fuel a whole country. So tell me if I live in a house with street parking where do I charge my vehicle overnight? And yes of course that is the case in the uk at the moment because there is enough demand for hydrogen, it’s not that the pumps are unreliable it’s that there is no need to fuel them. Electric vehicles are in my opinion the worst possible solution to creating green vehicles as they do not meet the demands or needs of car uses. T

@@samf8074 40% of households don't have off-street parking not 'most'. The average journey is something around 30miles a day meaning most people would need to charge once every week with something like the electric corsa. You could perhaps charge at one of many public chargers once a week. Supermarkets are even installing them now. Imagine what that'll be like in ten years time when almost every car park has chargers in. The National Grid have already said a few times now that there is enough electricity. Local distribution might be an issue in areas but vehicle to grid systems will actually help out the grid and might reduce our need for fast reaction power stations. Hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels currently and the stations are out of order because hydrogen is really hard to store and massively corrosive to tanks. Also yes a car can 'refill' quicker on hydrogen but only the first few cars. Hydrogen charging stations can usually only charge a certain number of cars a day as they have to recharge their tanks. Electric doesn't work for everyone right now, there's always going to be the unicorn who drives four hundred miles and doesn't need to pee or has to get somewhere without stopping for half hour but the problem with using them as the example means the people who could transition get put off. Hydrogen might be fine for some applications but increasingly BEV's are filling the void.
