Up to last year Mazda was not ever on my radar and I have owned two Mazdas in the past year, had a Mazda CX 5 premium, now I have a 2022 Mazda CX9 with the same turbo engine. I have on Toyotas most of my life and I am so impressed with Mazdas quality, there is no road noise compared to my Toyotas in the past. The Bose Sound system is amazing. If you haven’t driven a Mazda lately you should.

Same Toyota guy for 20 yrs and Mazda wasnt on my radar at all either. Went down the rabbit hole of reviews and have now owned my new ‘22 CX30 for two months and LOVE it.
We chose the CX30 turbo premium. We have owned it now almost a year. Great vehicle, great power, smooth ride, fit and finish is great. Oh, by the way, the vehicle comes with blind spot warning..
This was a great review Micah. We are Canadian empty-nesters. We have a Tiguan for taking grand kids around but wanted something smaller, sportier and more luxurious. We looked at the Mercedes GLA and the Audi Q3. We chose the 2022 CX-30 GT Carbon Edition. We are very happy with it and could not justify the price difference for similarly equipped GLA and Q3 - in Canada almost $15,000 more. As for the infotainment screen, well, we have adjusted and for most of our needs we just connect an iPhone and bark commands at Siri. Cheers....Jim
I've had owned 6 Mazda vehicles. Never had an issue with any of them. Such an underrated car company and have been very reliable.
I had just purchased a Camry in 2018 as I drove off the lot, My eye caught an SUV . 3 years later, I purchased my first Mazda CX-5. Best car I've ever owned. It is completely emotionally attached to who I am as a person.
The fresh and informative reviews that you produce are always joyful viewing!!! Thank you:)!
I bought a Mazda CX-30 in 2021 ans we LOVE IT!! Yes it is not the roomiest but I saw this as like a BMW X2, where it has a lowered roof line and all. A sporty CUV option if you wanted utility but don't necessarily need all the space (which we don't). We love the styling and interior and have the Soul Red with the Griege (White-Gray) Interior which contrasts nicely. Thanks again for another wonderful review. I really enjoy your family reviews and the segments/perceptions you all give on the cars. And I got some of those Flying Eyes with your discount!! Awesome sunglasses and if you needed to have a sponsor they are a good one!
Spot on review. I was impressed with my daughter’s CX-30 preferred; excellent value and I was surprised how comfortable it is, including arm rests, and visibility for me was much better than I expected though the seat was a bit too high when I drove it. She absolutely loves the car even though it is tight for cargo and rear passengers … not much of an issue for single urban professional. The Select trim for me too would be ideal and I think it would be hard to find a similarly featured, cool car for 26k these days
I have had my 2021 CX-30 Preferred (non-Turbo) in silver since September 2021 and put on about 23K on it, 10K on a cross-country (NJ to LA) trip of 5 weeks in September of this year. I agree with the likes and dislikes you noted. Some other issues are the small gas tank (wish it was about 2 gallons more), the relatively small main cargo area with the back seats up. Critical factor in my buying a Mazda CX-30 is that that it has a real automatic transmission, not a CVT as most competitors, it has a spare tire, good safety features. To me it was also a good value for money vehicle, I hope it will have a long and happy life with me.

That's my main attraction to Mazda (no CVT). Had a Hyundai Tucson with the CVT + Turbo, and now a 37k vehicle is nothing more than scrap metal (Hyundai rejected the recall/engine replacement even though their faulty machinery caused it!!!). Mazda seems to be the way to go, plus, the best looking of the bunch!
I love our cx 30. I don’t have the turbo but it still feels quick. It was $23k in 2020. Wife said no to all other small suvs but loves this car.
Today im supporting the channel with diligent prayer. Merry Christmas all!
Excellent review and Merry Christmas guys!
Also, I don't understand why Mazda likes high beltlines so much. Reduction in visibility and the passengers feel claustrophobic. Maybe it helps with crash safety and road noise with less glass.

Just got CX-30 Preferred last week. Feels like a luxury SUV inside and outside. Love the design. Great MPG. If you don’t need plenty cargo space, like well-balanced sporty and stable feel when driving, don’t think twice. One of a kind.
Happy Holidays Muzio family ♥️
We bought a CX-30 earlier this year. It's our first Mazda and really like it. It's just the two of us so no issues with rear seat space, wanting something easy to park, good cargo space, yet not too boring. We briefly considered the Toyota Corolla Cross, among others, but no dealer had one - in fact, I've yet to see a single one Anywhere.
This was actually very helpful to me being able to see how much space the kido has in the back seat
Best review ever seen ..
First things first, saw your video for the first time and gotta give it to you a very entertaining video covering almost everything for a car review. Amazing creativity while making the video. Now for the mirror visibility, does blind spot monitoring help with coz the mirror seems less helpful?
I have been a Mazda person since 2010. I have owned a 2010,2013,2016,2019 and 2021 Mazda 3. I have a bad back now and was having problems getting in and out of my last Mazda 3, so I got a 2022 CX-30 2.5 S PR. Loving it so far. 👍

Great idea showcasing other passengers….offers more perspective with vehicle volume (let alone opinions).👍
just a little side note . . . . . . I miss the 'Would Evie Drive . . . " segments. Do more of those, pleaz!
Must remember this is a subcompact SUV, so small. Good for those with no kids or small kids. Our kids are grown and gone. Great vehicle for my wife and I. We chose the CX30 Turbo Premium. Great drive, great interior.
The giggling while explaining the G-Force system lol
I love my 2022 CX-30 Carbon Edition, but had to black-out additional parts of the vehicle to make that cladding/bumper look more palatable & better matched to the overall vehicle design. Zero built-quality issues or problems to report after almost 14 months of driving it thus far. Besides the cladding not quite looking right without additional black-outs, my only other complaint about the vehicle is that Mazda should have also covered the lower front air intake with a grill of some sort (like the upper main grill) - but that was remedied with an aftermarket part DIY project in my case.
Nice video, thanks. This question is, do you know how you can disable the automatic parking brake?
Love the look and general layout of this car. It's the one "CUV" that would get my attention more than the standard hatchback it's based on. Especially love the front design and turn signals. Not sure why, but their slim design incorporated lower in the facia is really well done (both looks and functionality).
A fellow Conan fan - liked.

@@chrissimmons9969 unfortunately the SUV monster market has killed fun cars like that
I know how large some of the SUVs are, and some don't even fit in my garage. To call the SX-30 a sub compact is a stretch, because if you don't push the seat all the way back, it will comfortably seat for adults. I have 191 HP/ 186 ft-lb version, and with the bump shifter, it also works like a manual.
FYI the rotary dial with the non-touch infotainment screen has been around since 2019 with the Mazda 3. It's not going away anytime soon. Mazda has said time and time again that a rotary dial is far safer than a touch screen.
Hey, that was a strong high five. 😮 I’m sorry if I hurt you. I hope I didn’t break your right hand or something…
I'm with Evie--I like squishy dashes too!
We absolutely love ours! I just wish the seats fold flat for cargo and that the hatch had a little more clearance. When we travel, we kennel our dogs and this doesn’t quite accommodate their crate.

How about traveling with them loose in the car?
I wish Mazda and others would offer the plastic cladding in the same color as the rest of the vehicle.
Tall guy here. Sat in CX 30 and the A Frame felt way to close for comfort and negatively impacted visibility for me.
Super
I want to like the sub compacts but the pending cx70 with 3.3T is going to be the move for us. Want something in then Rdx and gv70 size range but $10k+ cheaper
I bought one of these last year. I genuinely didn't notice the high beltline because compared to my previous car (Camaro) it was so much better! But the Camaro probably has the worst visibility of any modern car so it's like beating an armless man at baseball.
i heard the mazda cx 30 now has the stop engine shut off feature...i dont want that
I don't know what mazda were thinking with those massive plastic cladding.
I came pretty close to buying a CX-30 Turbo earlier this year. The local Mazda dealer would neither come down off of their markup nor would they participate in Mazda's then advertised lease rates. I didn't want to take on dealer markup as debt and figured that if I could lease it at MSRP, I could buy it 2-3 years when the market was cooler. I'm assuming that participating in those advertised lease rates must cost the dealer something. I'd never encountered that before, but they flat out said those advertised rates were just something "to get people in the door" and that no dealers were really participating in them right now (Summer 2022) because of the market.

I LOVE this car--- and after seeing BRIAN MAKSE (race driver) test in on dry and snow roads- and Sara-n-tuned test it OffROAD (and she does NOT baby them).. I'm torn between this and the CX-50!!!! I LOVE the styling of the CX-50 and it's not THAT much bigger than this one.
No other brand is more driver-centric.
Do you recommend upgrading to turbo engine? Is regular NA 2.5 enough?

The turbos did have a problem with burning oil. Not sure if they have figured out the cause yet.
Would rather have the Civic hybrid hatchback. As fast, more roomy, and better gas mileage. Just no AWD. But I'll stick with my 2010 Volvo wagon.
Great car with the bose sound system better than Toyota my opinion? I drive 3 years with a corolla touring 2019 and I don't like the cvt and sound system from jbl a barking final touch is noise isolation in the car to loud
But cramp at the back. How's the back seat with a car seat.
The gas tank is very small so plan on visiting the gas station often.

That’s always something I look at when buying a car, especially since the refuel range leaves the last gallon or so off.
I dont't see the market. It matches the CX-5 price wise and feature so, not sure how it fits. I love my CX-5.
THAT is what I LOVE about this car.... it's just says QUALITY in everything--in the materials, the beauty, makeup- and production- and the power and performance. I looked at Subaru Crosstrek- which looks like a fun little bugger-- but it SOUNDS, FEELs and LOOKS- CHEAP!!!! (not saying it is- but it feels like it's going to fly apart at any minute)... THESE (all the mazdas") do NOT. I've seen SARAH-N-TUNED test this and the CX-50 and she loved them both-- and they climbed a hill most jeeps would blush at- and without much more than a mild spin a little bit. I've seen them tested in DEEP WET snow- not the soft powdery crap-- and it does GREAT!!!
Would be nice if you can mention how tall are you as a reference of how tall a person can fit in the backseat

It's nowhere near as bad as a Camaro. I know because I own one and my previous car was a Camaro The CX-30 is a bit bad for a CUV. The Camaro is legendarily terrible for any vehicle on the road.
I don't understand why Mazda's interiors are so cramped. Although I think they are working on moving away from that w/ CX50 being a good indicator...
I originally considered a CX-30 but after driving one as a rental I found a couple flaws I don't think I could live with. The belt line is ridiculously high which feels a bit claustrophobic. The sun visors don't swing to the side fully due to the slanted roofline. I wound up with a CX-5 instead. I still like the CX-30 very much though.

Why didn't they just plastic clad the whole car?

I own one and it's not. Rough ride, not good on uneven roads, can be very shaky and does not handle bumps well. On the freeway it is anything but relaxing. Transmission is not that smooth, hunts for gears a lot. I loved it at first until I really started getting to know it. Handles amazing due to the firm suspension but it needs to more balanced. Some of the firm suspension needs to be sacrificed for a better ride quality.
What I like about Subarus and, to a lesser extent, Toyotas is that form generally follows function in their car designs, so you rarely get a car with such compromised sightlines as you do with the CX-30, among other Mazdas. That, and probably the slightly harsher than ideal ride, for my taste, are the only two negatives I find with the CX-30, so I'd probably still pick it, in normally aspirated form, over the Corolla Cross and the CrossTrek despite the aforementioned negatives since it is better in every other way (that matters to me) than those two models.

@@edhcb9359 Adding context, we tested a 2022. For 2023, prices jumped for all CX-30 trims. Also, we identify destination charges separately in our information explosion. In the case of our specific tester, it has the optional turbocharged engine, giving it about 100 extra horsepower versus its competitors along with $2,300 price jump compared to the S Premium trim. So, the priciest CX-30 is indeed more expensive than the fanciest HR-V and Corolla Cross. But much of that expense is due to powertrain, since the competition doesn’t offer an equivalent engine option.
